Notifications not working and other problems

I have the note 7 from Verizon. On the original phone, i had to switch from Samsung email to the yahoo email app, because the Samsung version was incredibly inefficient taking 4 clicks to do something that I could do in two on my old Note 2. So I down loaded the Yahoo email app. Worked fine, except I could never get the red dot with the number of unread emails to appear on the icon. No biggie as I would still get the notification icon in the notification tray at the top of the screen and the phone's blue light would flash when i got a new email. I did however, have to go buy a new theme from the Samsung store, as the note 7's color scheme was just stupid. when I did that, the Yahoo email app picked up the new theme as well as all the other areas...messaging, contacts, phone, etc., and there was joy in Mudville.

Fast forward to last Friday, two days ago, and i went in to exchange my phone for the "new" one via the recall. Although SmartSwitch moves over a lot of things, it doesn't do everything, so I've spent many hours getting the new phone set up like the previous one (very aggravating.)

I realized this morning that I was not getting any email notifications on my phone. Not only no red dot, but no notification icon in the tray at the top of the screen, and no flashing blue light. I spent 2 HOURS on the phone with verizon tech support going through every conceivable place to make sure notifictions were turned on in every place we could find. During that conversation, I realized that i wasn't getting alerts from ANY application, and hadn't been, even on the first note 7 (except for email.)

After no luck with verizon, I reluctantly called Samsung tech support, who of course wanted me to first do a settings reset of the phone, and if that didn't work, said I'd have to do a factory reset and completely wipe the phone and start over. I told them that isn't going to happen, and I'd take the phone back to the store and get my money back, and go back to my old note 2, which i love, before I'd destroy all my data and files, etc.

Notifications are turned on in all the applications' settings menus, in the phone's settings notifications menu, and for each app in the app manager. The "do not disturb" function is turned OFF. I have toggled settings, powered on and off the phone, uninstalled and re-installed apps. Nothing has worked.

In addition to the no notifications issue, Yahoo mail when installed on this new note 7, isn't taking the theme from the phone. It is insisting on using it's own theme.

Does anyone else have the problem of no notifications from apps on the new note 7? Does anyone have any wacky ideas to try (other than resetting the phone). If I can't get this resolved, the POS is going back.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer!

Welcome to Android Central! First, make sure all power-saving modes are turned off. Some power-saving modes might prevent apps from staying "awake" enough to give you notifications while the phone's screen is off.

Second, go to Settings>Data Usage and make sure Restrict Background Data isn't turned on. If it is, then apps that are in the background (i.e., not fully opened up on the screen) might not refresh their data, and this means they might not get some information (like an email) that they would then notify you about.

Regarding the unread count badge that you're wanted on the Yahoo Mail icon--that's something that only appears on certain app icons in TouchWiz. You could install Nova Launcher instead (which is an alternate launcher app), and then install TeslaUnread.

ALL HAIL THE KING!!!!!

B.Diddy, I hope someone is paying you BIG DOLLARS!!! I did have my power manager set to "Mid". I turned it off, sent myself a test email, and BOOM!! Got the notification right away!! So, it's working now, however somewhat unfortunately. I also had the power saver feature turned on with the first Note 7, and didn't have any problems getting email notifications (just other apps.) So something has changed with the "new" Note 7. At least I can notify Verizon and Samsung now how to fix the problem, as apparently they're not nearly as good as you are!!!

I should mention that last night, around 9pm EDT, i got hit with two notifications at the same time, one from Verizon and one from an app. I thought maybe they had someone working on the issue and they had fixed something, however I still wasn't getting the email notifications. Now I am!!

I thank you so much for your help.....and Samsung should thank you too, as they won't be having to give me my money back.

Thank you! Thank you!! :):):):):):):):):):)

LOL, glad it's working now! I don't have a Note7, so I'm not sure about this--but see if there's a custom power-saving mode that allows you to choose which apps get turned off to save power and which apps are protected from turning off. If so, then you could choose your email app and other important apps to stay active.

When you go into settings>>battery, under the "Power saving mode" section you can click on the level you've chosen, in my case "mid," and you have the option for some customization. You can use sliders to select the limit for max brightness of the screen and the screen resolution. However the options of "limit phone performance" and "prevent background network usage" are on/off options only. The "Prevent background network usage" I have to turn off, to get my email notifications to come through. I would be nice if you could customize that to choose which apps could have access and which ones couldn't.

Now if i could just get the Yahoo Mail app to take the phone's theme instead of overriding with its own, all would be back to the way it was with my first Note 7.

Thanks again for all your help!

In the battery settings you can specify to turn off background sync for certain apps, but I think it's an "all or nothing" deal...if you flip the switch it will never sync in the background. I don't think it dynamically changes depending on the power saving mode.
