Nougat OTA Update

Well, it's clear that there is some issue (or issues) on both the 6P and the 6 that is holding back the full release. I got the OTA way back when it was first launched and I honestly can't point to anything wrong.... everything works. But who knows that lurks under the surface.

It's only been a couple of weeks. That's why Google does staged rollouts... send out the first batch, wait for feedback, and slowly ramp up the scope. There could very well have been an issue that was reported in that first round of updates to former beta customers that lead Google to make the call to stop the remaining rollouts until they could fix the problem.

If they did that, these things don't happen overnight. You have to analyze the reports, examine the code and find the defect(s), FIX the bloody things, send it through QA to verify that you didn't break other crap in the process... then send it off for final packaging and release. That isn't the sort of thing that you can do in an afternoon.

Is anyone getting either update (nougat or the security patch)?
I haven't gotten either, although I've checked several times, and found this, where apparently the 6P update has been blocked, until some action is taken:
Vodafone Australia confirms the Nexus 6P Nougat update has been halted, Huawei is working on it

It seems like in the meantime we should get the latest security patches for 6.0.1?

I'm new to the Android (phone anyway) world, been on Win phones for a long, long time, so I'm just catching up on how patching works here, exactly.
Just trying to make all my MS(Live) mechanisms work on my phone is enough to keep my spare phone time occupied, for now, but I'm hoping to not configure everything, and end up re-doing a bunch, after the update ;-]

The security updates are staged and should eventually roll out to your device

Hmm.. .makes me wonder if I'll ever get the September security update if I have 7.0 on my 6p.... (only way I got it is by enrolling in beta program, then un enrolled)... Maybe we'll have to wait until October with the release of the next Pixel phones........ :(

I'm fairly sure that the update is version specific so it would have to be for the version on your phone. Since they didn't formally push the 6p version of Nougat, I doubt they are making security updates for it available outside the beta program. You may have to re-enroll your phone into the beta program or roll back in order to get the relevant updates.

There is a zip for nougat on the Google site (https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images).

Has NRD90U listed as the version level. My current version is listed as NRD90M. This is a flashable file. I assume that it contains the September patches. I'll wait for the OTA.

I only flashed the latest 7.0 update day one because I had Wifi issues with 6.0.1 which I still had after the update. Only a factory reset fixed it and 7.0 is running great. Really no issues.

It looks like there are OTA image now, but this requires a USB update, apparently?
I'm thinking about it, I have a decent Qi charging pad working now, under my case, so I'm not too fired up about pulling it to expose things.

If I put the image file on my 6P, via Bluetooth or similar, can I get to it from the recovery screen, and update that way?

I know, I should probably just wait for OTA, I guess, but I'm not wired that way, I've been an early OS adopter my whole life, worked on OS development a good part of it, so I'm used to running bleeding-edge, although I do expect my primary phone to function, hence my reason to not do the Beta update OTA...

I've got 7.0 through the Beta and there definitely is an issue.
Some days by battery is great, getting though the whole day with 50% spare.
Other days under similar usage it's down to 50% by lunch time.

I can live with that in the short term, I've got chargers at work, in my car and a pocket friendly battery bank.

I flashed my phone manually yesterday with the full image after being on the last N OTA. I haven't noticed any improvements yet, especially with battery. I guess it's too early to judge but everything is working as expected.

I'm so anxious to get setup on nougat but I'm waiting for it to get pushed onto my phone.
Really hoping it rolls out sometime this month...

I went ahead and *very carefully* removed my Qi receiver (and then later discovered I could've used ADB over WiFi, at least on surface reading), and flashed too.
So far, it's been a few hours, and if anything battery drain is better than 6.0.1. I've only had the phone for maybe 5 weeks though, anything battery-wise is an improvement over my Win Phone 10 device.
I've figured out how to use Widgets much more avidly now, so I'm getting my screen to where I can have a more "at a glance" view of what's up, closer to where I'd like it to be...

Hi, I joined the Android Beta program and installed N. Now I want to opt out of the Beta program, but the Google Beta page warns that the phone will be returned to the most recent stable version. My question is, which version will my phone be reverted to 6.0 or 7.0? TIA

If you came from 6.0.1 and went to 7.0 it won't do anything. It might change you to the newer 7.0 ver which has the September security update in it.

Sooo I enrolled in the beta program after the supposedly final version released (the earlier one without the September security patch) and was wondering, if I re-enroll in the beta program, would I get another update notification for the newer build, or do I have to wait for the official OTA? I never have and don't plan to ever flash images to my devices, so please no posts telling just to flash the image. I know everyone says how easy it is, but I know I'll screw it up, and don't want to deal with it. Soooo anyone have any idea?

Almost as annoying as posts saying "just sign up for beta" to those of us who don't want to find ourselves concerned about things like the question you now raise. Some of us want 7.0, but only when Google releases an official OTA.

Unless someone has tried it, I doubt anyone knows, just my $0.02.

The flash is pretty darn easy, and I'm not an Android guy, although I am a hardware guy, with a fair amount of engineering experience. I was surprised at how simple it actually was, you can find step-by-steps that distill it into about 3 total.
I did make the "mistake" of installing the whole Android SDK (who knows, maybe I'll fiddle and scribbled together an app, have a bit of fun, since I have it now), whereas it turns out XDA has a pretty compartmentalized download with just the imaging app.

They have - https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/ota You just might have not had the OTA image pushed to your phone. But when they do, it'll be the very same one you are looking at on that OTA link.

And while you will need the fastboot and ADB tools intalled, you do not need to install the full Android SDK. There is a portable ADB/Fastboot tool that you can obtain here : [TOOL]Minimal ADB and Fastboot [4-27-16] | Android Development and Hacking

Install the tool, download the OTA file and just follow the instructions on Google's page. It is extremely easy. Yes, I can see how hearing "Just flash the OTA yourself" might sound annoying, but once you do it once, you'll most likely realize why so many of us are quick to tell people to handle their own updates.
