Nova or Google now launcher

I'm always around a charger, so that's a non-issue with me. I just like using the phone as Google made it. If others feel differently, that's fine. At least as android users, we have many choices.

For me, there's simply no way Google Now Launcher can replace Nova. There's just too little customization available with Google Now Launcher. You can't even change the default icon set. I only have folders on my home screen, where I use custom images to make them look like regular app icons. Whichever launcher that doesn't allow me to do that is out.

Imagine the horror...... My phone would become unusable.

I've been back and forth between Now and Nova. Since 6.0 I've been on Now and yesterday tried Nova and Nova is busted.

I use OK Google every day, I love it. And for me in Nova when I use it, it brings me to the Now page and closes the voice search. I then have to say OK Google again to do the search.

Anybody else have this problem or know a solution?

Tried using Google now launcher after a long time. The battery usage was too high.

Just switched back to Nova again

Yes yes yes that's exactly what happened to me! When I first try nova launcher so I switched back to Google now launcher and the battery usage on Google Search application and other similar apps was so high / 15 to 18% when I was barely use it! Went to Nova Launcher and it's barely at 3% of battery

Mine *would* become unusable without that feature. Attached is my current home screen. Imagine *my* horror if those icons were default ugly folder icons... I'd rather not look at them.

That's an awesome home screen. Only if the theme could be carried over to all the stock apps at least, without rooting

Thanks! Applying the custom icon doesn't require rooting. The icon set I use, Glasklart, covers a lot of stock and other apps, so chances are your apps will all be themed. :)

I have something similar just with a custom wallpaper on my Nexus 6. Nova launcher is nice .

I meant that the icon set looks should be carried over when an app is launched a well. Like dialer, messaging, chrome, Gmail etc.

Something like what HTC provided with their themes. The stock apps theme also changes with the system theme

I am making the decision between nova and the google launcher too - I see you say nova all the way - why is this - please can you tell me why, how is it better than the google launcher etc

Thanks

The main differences between Google now launcher and nova launcher are this send me: Google now launcher is obviously the stock launcher and in my opinion its good its not as customizable and for some reason the Google Search application within the launcher uses way too much battery and you don't get as much usage per charge. Number one nova launcher is highly customizable number two it saves on battery immensely if you ask me. I listen to start to use Google launcher just to test it out with the battery usage and I didn't charge my phone over the weekend Saturday night and it lasted from Saturday morning until last night at about 8 p.m. under normal usage / heavy usage I noticed that when I barely use the Google Search app and Nova Launcher it's consistently at about 5% battery versus Google now launcher when it was always around 13% to 17% battery usage under the same normal usage. It just didn't make any sense to me.

With Nova launcher I lose the new app drawer in M which scrolls vertically and shows 4 most used apps on top. Is there a way to get this back and still use Nova for main launcher?

Well, as far as I know, in Nova Launcher you can use the app drawer in different styles both horizontally and vertically I think.

You can, but Nova does't have the capability to show most used apps like Google Now Launcher.

I'm like that, too. I have a folder on my home screen that includes my favourite apps. :)
Actually speaking of which, I don't even go into my app drawer anymore I just have everything in folders organized appropriately so I can bounce around from home screen to home screen and access everything efficiently and quickly.

Again, I'm like that. :D

I have a total of 10 folders placed on my two home screens (five per screen). Together, they have pretty much all the apps I need to use.

Haha yup yup I have about three home screens one so we dedicated to my calendar widget which keeps me organized and the rest is from my Google now cards widget and all my other widgets and folders.
