November Security Patch Now Live -- Updated @ 11/5 1PM EST)

I've actually done that several times. And it says still says my system is up to date. With the Sept 5 2018 security patch level.

Same for myself, dont worry about it...itll come, we're just queued later to get it i guess.

Some sites reporting potential improvement, anyone notice anything thats got it?

I had understood that I could click on "System Update" and I would get an immediate update. I click on "System Update" repeatedly and it apparently is no longer connected to anything at all. Many on the forum have gotten their update and I still don't have my "timely" security update.

A broken feature that never got fixed as I also thought it would work now although I got this update the first day. I think the switch is a bogus feature if it only works haphazardly.

I have a Pixel 3 XL on Project Fi. Still don't have the November Security Update. You would think being a Pixel on Google's carrier I would get it right away! Oh well, from what I read it doesn't look like they are fixing much other than vulnerabilities this time around.

My carrier is Project Fi. I have found over time, and Pixel XL, Pixel 2 XL, and Pixel 3 XL, that my Project Fi phones will not receive an update until T-Mobile phones start receiving it. Once I see that T-Mobile users are receiving the update for the Pixel 3 XL, then I will hit "Check for update" and my phone will receive the update.

"Check for update" does work. However, there's nothing it can do until the update has been released for your particular carrier. Until that happens, the update isn't available for OTA download so tapping "Check for update" does nothing but tell you that your phone is up to date.

Unless an update includes something really special, and I want it right away, I don't bother sideloading, I just wait, and I usually don't have to wait very long. I don't think the November update includes anything "big," so I'll just wait for it.

Didn't project Fi and the associated carrier have this issue on your last update?

Not sure why of all OEMs Google still has to struggle rolling out updates based on carrier. My Essential phone in TMobile received November update the moment Essential tweeted it's available. Sigh.
I side loaded it. I'm pretty sure that's what I'll always do with T-Mobile. Haha

It varies by carrier so if you carrier isn't ready to roll it out you can't get it

We go through the same conversation every update so if you have had a Pixel prior to the 3 you should not be surprised at all. Disappointed maybe but not surprised.

Yeah, I understand how it rolls out. Wasn't that long ago when the buzz was a fix coming for the "check" button.
I'm not an Iphone fanboy but Apple releases updates to all at once so obviously possible to do it that way at least to Google's own.
People do get excited for a slight delay on a simple security update. As we all know some devices wait months so what's a few days?

I don't think it's that the button is broken, it's that the deployment varies.
The buzz about the check for update was quite misleading to say the least. It should have included a caveat about it will pull an update if released and waiting. Even when it's released it's still slightly staggered because the servers can't accommodate everyone pulling at the same time. The check for update doesn't save that much time if the update is sitting there because eventually the update will be pushed.

Just my thoughts.

I'd rather they roll it out slower and catch any possible problems versus breaking all our phones at once :O

I'm new to pixels, so these monthly updates make me kinda nervous wondering what might get broke this time. In the past with other phones updates didn't come that often, but when they did they often brought more problems than they fixed...... I hope Google's different.

Definitely different. Any phone can have unexpected bugs and whatnot. The difference with the other phones updates was once out if there were bugs.. you had no clue when the fix would come. With Pixel if something does break there's a good chance there will be something coming to fix it.

Just like the September 2018 update, T-Mobile and Project Fi users haven't received the update as yet. In September, my OG Pixel didn't get the update until the last week of September. The October update popped up on the 1st of the month, before the actual release date. I am using a Pixel 3 XL now and still stuck on the September update. What gives with T-Mobile? BTW, my Essential PH-1 on Mint Mobile got the update early Monday afternoon.

Y'all are talking about one carrier gets updates before another carrier.
I thought the updates came from Google.

Which one, software, or security ?

I was also under the impression that regardless of which carrier you are, you would recieve the update directly from Google. So I am also confused what carriers have to do with the update.

My guess is it still goes through an approval process regardless of who performs the delivery. I realize it's frustrating and hopefully the future will change things. In the meantime I guess the only thing that can be done is to be vocal with the carriers that seem to lag on deployment.

That's always a possibility. The only issues I experienced on the Pixel 2XL after an update was because I was on Beta. I experienced an issue with AA and as luck would have it the Disney App right before a trip. This forced me to come off the Beta temporarily. I don't recall any hiccups on my phone on non beta builds. I'm not suggesting that there weren't any. Most of what I saw were complaints about battery taking a hit temporarily, aftermarket head units losing compatibility temporarily with AA and other things I can't remember but you can probably read about in the Pixel 2 threads. While updates do bork things from time to time sometimes there is a tendency to blame the update for weird things happening after an update. Sometimes whrn it's a real issue it just takes a reboot, other times an FDR to resolve the issues or a future update to fix it.
