now every tech blogger is claiming screen burn

Wow. So irresponsible. Because one tech blogger decided to take a photo of some image retention and crank the brightness low enough to see it, suddenly it's burngate??? They understand that stupid people will think this is really a thing, right? Firstly, it's not. Secondly, if it were, you wouldn't know about it unless these morons told you. My og XL had mad screen burn.... That you could only see on a plain white screen with no nav bar...so never.
Payback for what they did to the Note 7 !

It IS a problem. No panel should EVER burn in after 4 days of use. That is a DEFECT. It is FLAWED. If it's visible after 4 days, imagine how bad it will be after a year, and it would very much affect usage. The colors and other stuff are a matter of taste; burn in is something completely different.

Mine isn't like that. So a few defective units equals a bad product to you?

Depends on your level of burn-in and how resistant the display is to burn-in. Bad burn-in will be visible all the time. It will definitely be visible while watching a video since videos don't cover 100% of the screen unless you zoom in.

Not with OLED. Each pixel has its own brightness and thus "burn in".

If you look at the bottom of my og XL you can clearly see how badly it's effected. This is literally the only time you see it.

You don't see burn in on black bars, the pixels are turned off for black

Maybe the individual pixels change the most over the first few days and then everything levels off actually reducing the burn in effect as the pixels even out. We won't know for a bit how to really characterize the issue.

There are apps you can download to display solid colors for a screen test. I just spent 8 hours on the road today with navigation running which mean the navigation bar was on my screen the entire time. I just used one of these apps to check out my screen and I have absolutely no burn-in... I've had my Pixel 2 XL since the 19th.

I am waiting on my order from Verizon. I have a 128gb 2xl Panda Pixel coming for 11/1 or will be delivered by then. I'll admit that all this screen talk has me nervous. I am not going to cancel my order because I've waited so long. I'm hoping that the screen is okay. As a back up I have a white 128gb Pixel 2 on order with Google. That scheduled for November 14th.

Maybe the concern here is that if it's visible under certain conditions after 1 week what's it going to look like in a year or 2?

So you're saying people should ignore this issue?

I hope Google fixes this with a software update
I am upgrading from Nexus 6 that shuts down when battery is at 50-60% and you are using GPS heavy application for the past 2 years
Yes I play Ingress & Pokémon Go and it's very annoying
My CC was charged today and I am expecting the new P2XL this Friday.

Not sure they can fix suspected poor hardware with a software update.

I was worried when I read back in April that Google was giving Lucky Goldstar 400 million I think it was to make the screens for the pixel 2's. Since SamDung was tied up making panels for themselves and Crapple. I had a Lucky Goldstar G3 with it's ugly UI, washed out screen, and laggy and locking up skin. I heard of the LG Nexus boot loop problems. I knew nothing good would come out of this partnership. Wouldn't be surprised if Lucky Goldstar didn't sabotage them on purpose.

So far we don't know. But if this is just recalibration issue, software is the answer.
The same panel was used on LG phone without issue. I bet you 2 cents that Google will try software solution first

If you think this is a problem...nothing will ever be good enough. Complaining about something that doesn't effect usage and is simply a complaint out of principal is just silly.

I will disagree with you on this point. If there is legitimate burn-in on the screen that occurs within mere days/weeks of use, then it really does affect usage from a satisfaction perspective. Sure, it may not make apps not work properly or it may not drain the battery faster, but it is still a defect in quality. Imagine if you bought a brand new car and, within a few weeks of driving, the body and cabin starts to squeak and groan and grind as you drive over road seams, turn the steering wheel and drive up/down curbs. Sure, the vehicle is mechanically sound and still drives and the windows still work and all, but all those noises from bad body build that generates all those sounds.....you're not going to be very happy with your purchase.

Screen burn-in is absolutely unacceptable for a flagship device. And if it happens to individual devices, those should be replaced by Google under warranty as defective. But if it is a widespread design defect in the screen panel itself, then it is my firm belief that it should be subject to a general recall/replacement with a properly functioning panel. There really is no excuse for expecting your consumers who spend nearly $1,000 on your "flagship device" to have a screen subject to that kind of behavior whatsoever.

Again. If it isn't every device...or even the majority, it is a defect, covered by warranty. The tech bloggers are acting like every device is complete garbage...only after praising it to no end. Sensationalist bull****.

You are it is flawed, but every reviewer that talks about it shows the same picture. Show me more than one display with burn in and then we will talk more about it.
