Now that HP acquired Palm, anyone changing their mind jumping ship to the Evo?

I hope so, but it seems quite a bit larger to me.

Nice pics.....I think I would have to actually hold the device to make a final decision, I tried holding the HD 2 but couldn't get an accurate feel as that had that stupid security thing attached to the back of it.

In the short term, HP won't change what's cooking at Palm. Any changes in direction that eventually do get implemented won't likely benefit Palm's customers for months, if not a year or more. Unless Palm's unicorn (the mythical C40) drops before the EVO launches, its all 4G all the time for me. :)

I would like to see a demo of how notifications on the sense UI compare to WebOS. I really like the notifications of new emails and texts pop up at the bottom of my screen even when my phone is sleeping on the touchstone.
Another spot WebOS is better IMO. I'm being surrounded by Androids at work so I have some time to actually play with it.
Notifications scroll at the top then disappear to an icon that has to be pulled down to see.
Nicer from a security point but I prefer to be able to read at least part and decide if I want to dismiss or read further.

I have been so diassappointed in my PRE I am ready to jump ship as soon as the EVO comes out. Yes webos and the cards have been great but I have had so many problems it makes using my phone a chore.

I will give the EVO a chance and then maybe when Palm comes out with something new maybe I'll switch back.. Just dont think I want to beta test another Palm product

As a lover of WebOS and a long time user of Palm's products, I have decided to stay with the Evo.

My main reasons for this are no one really knows for sure how HP will handle Palm. Will they just write Palm a blank check and say perfect WebOS or will they try to pump current versions of WebOS onto as many devices as they can? Ultimately I can't really afford to have crappy hardware/buggy software on my smart phone next year. While Android isn't as polished and elegant as WebOS (Sense UI helps a lot though), functionality is more important to me in the long run. In addition I think WebOS is going to get a lot more developer support now that HP stands behind it, but I don't think that is gonna happen before 6-9 months. I need that support and since Android already has it, I will make the move. In a year, I will reassess.

Although, I may pull the trigger on a sick WebOS tablet if it gets released.

lol are you serious, android seems way more polished than webos. i have a pre and i watch the forums a lot. and i don't hear to many complaints coming from the android camp like i do with the webos camp. if it wasn't for preware and the hombrew people. the pre would suck. the pre,and pixi are beta phones. i wouldn't want a webos tablet because it would probably be missing a ton of key features, just like the pre is still missing key features, somebody had mention that palm has only adopted 5 patches out of the 300+ that's on preware. 20 of them are very key features. palm isn't paying attention.

Mythbusters polished a turd. There's some problems and things missing in WebOS but it looks good and the UI is fantastic. That's being polished in this sense.

i am a webos user, love it but i am defenetly getting the evo...is a must have phone but since i have 2 lines i will save one for the future HP/PALM phone which i also agree will problably next yr

This is a poor question for me... truth is, I am going to get both. Anyone that listens to me babble on the various podcasts knows that I am awesome (true story), therefore I will get the next gen webOS device (which won't be a "HP" product, trust me on this, the Palm roadmap for next gen has been set) and I'll be getting the EVO as well.

Both have their flaws / advantages, I'd go into them but I don't think this is the right thread for it. Unless you really want to know... I think I've spouted the major flaws of Android already throughout the forums... and webOS, well, it's actually an easier fix than Androids.

The timing of the next Palm device (whether HTC or not) will of course play into any decision. Was there any word on the timing of a new Palm device?

HP bought Palm. Not HTC ;)

No timeline is public at the moment. Most are speculating a summer release window due to the severity of Palm's situation (no longer financial if the buyout goes through, but rather marketshare and relevance). It's also a good point to make about 2nd Generation devices, while it's definitely in development, has had ZERO leaks or public details. The Palm C40 was rumored all the way back in August of last year, 2 months after the initial release of the original webOS device.

I'm switching, I have the Pre on sprint. It was a great phone at first, then you realize its much slower than the iPhone or most newer android phones. I could really care less about games, but apps are much better on the Android, or the iPhone than on the pre.

I'm switching as soon as it comes out. I've always had HTC phones until now, time to go back.

I'll get the EVO now... Wait till they release their device, if me like, I'll get it

simple as that

Same here.

WebOS is great but until they get better hardware and a few other things I'm going to stick it out with the Evo for a while.

The Evo4G may be a good thing for WebOS.
With droves of Pre users making an exodus market share will take a dip and they'll be forced to make massive changes. People not buying for device is one thing, people not using your device anymore is another.

I figure they don't have anything new. Palm browses forums, they know what's about to happen and there's no preimtive strke. No announcement, no leaks.
We ma see a device later this tear with a "new" WebOS, but I'd bet CTIA 2011. Andthat's only IF HP decided not to put all development into tablets. Also considering it's HP the phone will be overpriced and GSM. Not good for me.
