hey guys, i think i might be missing something. when i boot into recovery mode, the only options i'm given are:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

naturally, i chose "apply sdcard:update.zip"
it says:
-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

i tried it about 4 times in a row, no results. then i renamed the kernel zip to "update.zip" and it still gives the same results. i was going to try using adb (never have before), but the SDK installer won't recognize that i have the JDK installed (i uninstalled and reinstalled just in case, still didn't work). what am i doing wrong? thanks!

You have the stock recovery, look at [Custom Recovery] Optimus S/ Thunderc-sprint for a recovery that will flash this.

IT WORKS! YOU ALL ROCK MY ENTIRE SOCK DRAWER! i'm very excited, lol. i'll be stepping up my processor speed every 30 minutes to find a perfectly stable one, just in case. THANKS AGAIN, TO EVERYONE!

I have to take my phone into a sprint store because the hardware may be failing.

So I need to restore the stock kernel so they won't complain that I rooted it.

Do you have a link to a copy? Or should I just put a previous version of xionia on it which doesn't identify as xionia? If so, which version would that be - 4?

Thanks.

Thanks but I didn't think it would be necessary to unroot and return to stock. I just want it to look stock. The only things which seem to not look stock are:

- the xionia kernel
- the superuser app
- the setcpu app

I figure if I back those up and then install a stock kernel, or something that reports it's the stock kernel, I should be okay to bring it in to the sprint store.

If you need to, you can also grab the flashable build props, find the stock one, and edit the information in the build.prop file to whatever stock would say (for version info). Then flash it.

Though honestly I would just go all the way back to stock, as what will happen if they were to try to boot in to recovery? :P Or mess around with any of the other things that might have changed?

What are the source codes for and how do u flashh those. Also can I flash the latest kernel without doing the previous kernel?

You don't flash source code... you can use it to compile a kernel. Don't worry about doing that...just download the most recent kernel and flash it, no need to flash older ones.

Sent from my phone...excuse the spelling mistakrs

Suggestions for Kernel: Back in the Hero forums on XDA, we had stable, capped kernels, that didn't require the use of an OC widget or setCPU to overclock. It seems like most of the users here can get 806 stable, so why not make another version of your kernel that can scale up to 806?

Anyone else that wants to scale higher can use your current kernel and an OC program...

Just my 2 cents!

i don't see the point in another kernel. the reason it's set this way is because some people (most) can run 806 without problems. others however can only get to 767 (or whatever the step down is from 806). why make it more complicated with different kernels for different speeds when you can have jsut one kernel for everyone that can be configured easily?

IMO overclocking is unnecessary (on the Optimus S) and kills battery. I underclock my CPU during normal usage. However it is nice for games like pissed off birds.
