[Odin] Froyo leaked packaged custom ROMs w/root and clockwork **UPDATED**3/25

Thanks a lot for this, guys. I finally got the gusto to try it, and realized it's a lot less painful than I thought it was.

2 questions:
1) Can I go from original Verizon config to SC 2.8 w/o wipe? I successfully did it w/ SC 2.8 w/ wipe.
2) If so, will it also leave Verizon bloatware?

I think I know the answers to these, but just wanted to try and confirm.

Thanks again.

1) No you cannot go from og Verizon, I'm also assuming EA28, to sc 2.8 w/o wiping. Adrynalyne is THE expert, and if I remember correctly, he has said you need to wipe data when going from Eclair to Froyo.

2) All the sc versions are stripped of Verizon bloatware, so whether you wipe or don't, after you flash sc the Verizon bloatware will be removed.

Yeah, EA28. It's the wife's phone, so I'll see if she's prepared to start from scratch tonight, if I have to go that way. I'll post results.

I think somewhere in the last 10 pages or so of this thread, DroidXcon mentions an app backup app called my backup pro or my backup plus which does not require being rooted first, and there are several options given to back up your contacts, so while she would be starting from scratch, restoring things will not be as painful.

Thanks, I'll definitely look for this.

Contact Groups FC Issues

Hey guys, I was just wondering something...

A few of you were having FC issues with adding contacts to existing/new groups. Since I have not had any FC's with that issue, I tried to do a little brainstorming, and the only thing I can think of with an 'easy' answer would be how they are backed up and restored.

I have NEVER used Ti.Backup, 'Import/Export', or Google functions to backup my contacts, I have only used Verizon's built-in 'Backup Assistant' under: Settings > Accounts & Sync.

I'm just wondering if there is something to that... how have you guys backed up your contacts?

I have always used backup assistant with no problems, but I also have not needed to create any groups. I did recently export my contact data to my sd card to play it safe (Always have believed in and followed three very important words when it comes to computers - backup, backup, backup) As far as I now you cannot backup contact data through Titanium backup, only app and system data.

Just wanted to post quickly to say how great this is. Did this last night and am so pleased with the phone. The instructions were very well done and I took my time and read everything a couple times. THANK YOU!

A note to anyone thinking of taking the plunge, do it. Your phone is so much better and it really is super easy to do.

easiest way to backup contacts does not require any software. Just go to Contacts tab, select menu on bottom of phone, select import/export,
the select export to SD card. This puts a file on your card for an easy restore using this same method.
2nd method is using Titanium Bkup. Use this for all my apps but works for Contacts too.
BackUp Assistant would not recommend.

I need to learn something new :p How do you backup contacts in Titanium backup? I have not seen that option.

Don't forget that there are guys like me that don't restore with TiBackup. I do the backup in case something goes wrong with my upgrade. I update with the no-wipe Roms. That's not not say that I have not used it and actually restored with it, because I have. I have purposely made considerable changes to my phone, used the ZEAM launcher, mucked up stuff to see how well it restored everything... and it did. After I defaulted the phone, it brought back everything... contacts, txt messages, wallpaper, and the full configuration of ZEAM and all of the customized pages I set up for it. The only issue I came up with is that I had to reboot the phone a couple of times for all of the effects to come back. I believe that 2 was the max, and after that, the phone was back to perfectly working order as it was before I started purposefully mucking with it.

As for the Contact list FC's, the FC happens when you add a contact to an existing pre-created or self created group. The contact still ends up in the group, but you get an FC no matter what.

Worked with Adrynalyne on a fix, and it fixed it for the way I was able to reproduce it. Now waiting to see if he's going to release the patch or if I can just send out what I have that fixed the issue. I don't want to undermine his work, so I'm sure that he's got an official word on it coming up here soon.

Hey guys, I keep going back and forth whether to do it or not to. But as I mentioned in another post or maybe here I'm not sure how to do the SD card thing, I was told it would be ok because that's only to support themes or something like that (i don't know if that means other launchers). I have also looked into the Froyo that Cory posted but not sure if there are any big issues other than the Google voice error. Now I will try Titanium Backup for my apps, if someone can help me a give me a push to go for it and try it. Thanks

Quick question:

After performing the ROM flash yesterday to the 2.8 verison I noticed that when I charged my phone last night it only went to 96%. I had the phone plugged in to the stock wall charger all night (8 hours) and it showed that it only charged to 96%.

Anyone else having this issue? Any thoughts on what might be going on?

Hey Ochness, I have the same issue with my phone, I've had it since October and when I charge it sometimes it shows 100 % and other times 96,98 and I still have not done anything to the phone as far as ROM flashing. It's how it came from the factory and still does the same.

I didn't notice it before when I was on a stock ROM. I would charge the phone over night and get the message that it was ok to remove the phone from the charger as it was done charging.

I'm just not sure if this is going to be an issue going forward or not. I will have to watch it.

If by the sd card thing you are referring to putting update.zip on your sd card this is how you do it:
With the phone on, hit the menu soft key and go settings=>applications=>development and make sure usb debugging is checked. Now plug your phone into your pc with the usb cord that came with your phone. After the phone connects, pull down the notification bar and click on usb connected. Your phone will go to a screen with a droid, click on the gray "connect usb storage" bar below the droid, click ok in the pop up, wait a little bit while the sd card is mounted. An auto play pop up should appear on your pc, click "open folder to view files." The window and directory that pops up is the root or base of your sd card. Download and save the update.zip file directly to this location if your pc allows that, or save update.zip to your pc, then drag and drop it to that location. That simple. And this is also how you will save any other zip files such as themes, ROMs by themselves, patches, or add-ons, to your sd card. When you are done, click the gray "turn off usb storage" bar on your phone. Done.

After doing that just follow the steps in the first post of this thread to the letter. Take your time and make sure you are reading each step carefully and it should be a breeze. Most people are reporting this whole process takes them anywhere from 15-30 minutes.

This has been covered numerous times in the numerous battery life threads and is actually a good thing not a bug or anything you need to watch. When we were all on stock Eclair we did not have an accurate battery mod which showed the percentage of the battery. Our Lion batteries actually have a little computer inside them which regulates the charge. The danger to Lion batteries is overcharging, so when you leave your phone plugged into the charger, the battery stops charging at 100% then slowly drains to about 95%, then accepts the charge and charges back up to 100% and starts the cycle over. So the only way to have the battery at 100% charge when you remove the usb cord is to watch it like a hawk and pull the charger when the accurate battery icon shows 100. I don't worry about what the percentage is when I remove my phone from the charger as that maximum 5% difference is not going to be a problem. The danger to these batteries is letting them discharge until they are dead. So since our batteries regulate themselves to prevent overcharging, there is no problem with constantly throwing the phone on a charger if battery life is an issue for you.

Got it...Thank you Landshark, I think I understand now. I will not worry about this going forward.

Just a quick question.

If I want to use EB01/EB16 Froyo leak, packaged ROMs w/root and clockwork do I need to root the phone first or is everything done in the process of flashing?

Probably a silly question but I figured I would ask before getting myself into some kind of trouble or wasting time.
