[Odin] Froyo leaked packaged custom ROMs w/root and clockwork **UPDATED**3/25

Ok, thanks.

Next question in regards to the update.zip. Are the extracted files to be put directly on the SD card or in another folder or where exactly.

And finally, what is the difference between the 2 versions of each version of Froyo of the flash. For example: EB16SC28_DXC.tar vs. EB16SC28x_DXC.tar

The update.zip is placed on your sd card. The others stay on your PC. For the files in DroidXcon's thread, you need to extract them as they're in a .rar format with the tar inside. Just remember where you save them to as that's what you'll need when you hit the pda button on odin. As far as the names, the 'x' after the rom name means it shouldn't wipe your data. If you're coming from stock 2.1, then it's generally a good idea to use the non-x versions since you may run into all sorts of force closes.

Whoops, sorry shows what I know :D never used DXC's packages, never had to place an update.zip. Don't extract it though, just place the zip file on the sd

2.9 was just posted by adrynalyne which fixes this go to his post or wait for me to post a package...but that will be a couple of hours from now

While you are waiting for DroidXcon to get the package together, if you want to do some reading and learn how to flash things in cwm check out my post #14 on page 2 of this thread http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...answer-phone-when-receiving-calls-rooted.html

It's not really that difficult. Just download the zip to your sd card, hold the power button and choose recovery. If you end up in Blue, choose 'apply update.zip' and that should take you to red. Then it's just a matter of choosing Install zip from sd card and finding the file you downloaded.

This thread is probably going to get merged into DroidXcon's thread by the moderator anyway, but please, in the future post questions in the topic appropriate thread instead of posting a whole new thread. You would have gotten the same help and possibly more over in DroidXcon's thread. And then the forums do not expand to exponential proportions because of all the different threads. Thank you.

PJnc284,

Though it may be as easy in its own way, it is still intimidating to go into those colored recovery modes and use volume rockers to navigate, then in one color you use the home icon to enter, but in another you might use the power button. When using the packages here and Odin, it is very visual, and what keeps most beginners at ease. When they're looking for some "scratch", that's when its time for them to move to recovery (themes, kernels, modems, etc.).

My first day of using Odin, I still went into recovery to see what was in there. But I know that as long as the bootloader works in my phone, I can always find a way to recover it if I kill the application.

To expand on what I said in my previous post, a lot of the answers to these questions can be found in DroidXcon's thread. The difference between the two versions is the one without the small x before the underscore wipes your data, cache, and dalvik cache for you. The one with the x does not wipe anything. If you are coming from Eclair (OS 2.1, builds DL09 or EA28) you have to use the one that wipes.

@standupdad- True. I'm just a fan of using Odin only when needed. Plus no need to connect to the computer. Aside from hitting the chrome-to-phone button to push the download link to my phone, I downloaded and updated from 2.8 to 2.9 without touching my computer.

What was this in response to? If you don't hit the quote under the original post it is tough to tell who you are responding to. Especially with our new awesome moderator merging new unnecessary threads into already existing ones.

ha, it was to standupdad's comment but you hit post before I did. :p

Ha ha! We're pretty fast around here. I think SuD, DXC, and I should have a contest to see who can answer questions quicker. Actually I think we kind of already do that without even discussing it. :p

@everyone, I created these packages so that a newb could get a custom rom with the least amount of learning curve....if after that they want to learn to use cwm they can......i for one use both cwm and odin.......I'm creating a thread on how to use cwm and I will be attaching a link to it in the OP within the next couple days.........Odin is just an option I by no means say its better or worse than cwm way. It's all about the end user and what they feel comfortable using.....

Aww, c'mon. Quit being so modest. I think your ODIN packages may be the wave of the future. They are the best thing since sliced bread for new rooters. I try to expand people's knowledge after they have gained a little experience by teaching them how to use cwm, especially since you have to use cwm to flash a theme and themes seem to be very popular right now. I like cwm because of how quickly I can download and flash things and I'm constantly tinkering with different combinations. But I also use ODIN for modems and to flash DI01 or EB01 fix all package for when I've borked my phone. A lot of people are extremely happy and comfortable with your packages, and I think your ODIN packages are the shiznit. Fo sho.

I have 2.8 right now and I want to put 2.9 on. Would I need to wipe everything?

Not if you don't want to. You can use one of DroidXcon's Non-Wipe ODIN packages or you can just use adrynalyne's sc2.9nv .zip files and flash it through clockwork. What ever way your comfortable with doing things. If you do it through clockwork like I prefer to, just be sure to clear cache & dalvik cache as a good measure before flashing.

Problem with Mobile Date with 2.6 and 2.8

Hello, I installed the SC2.6 and SC2.8 with the data wipe option and it works great at first, then after a day or two the Mobile Data keeps turning off and won't reconnect until I reboot, then it is fine for a while and then turns off again. Not sure what is wrong. I first started with the stock Verizon stuff with the latest update, ea28 i think and eclair. Should I never run the *228 stuff, would that be what is wrong? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks, love the install but need the mobile data to work all the time. Thanks in advance for the help!

yeah, big props for the all-in-one odins. It's definitely the go to for anyone unfamiliar with the process and I've sent a lot of people your way from the actual verizon community forums where root is one of those 4 letter words. That said cwm should be next on the list since that gives you the ability to backup and restore in the event something blows up.
