************Edited to say nevermind - I figured it out with the help of a Google image search. ***************
Thank you to everyone for posting tips and advice about rooting. I now have 2.6 with no problems. I Googled a bit to find the answer to this question but didn't find an answer -- can anyone define the symbols on the notification bar for me? They are different from my original ones.
The first one I know is Wi-Fi, the second (that looks kind of like a pointy letter B with a bow on the left side) might be 3G, the dot with the circle and four points on it is the GPS but what are the arrows and rectangle with arrows circling it? I also have Launcher Pro installed, which could make a difference in what I'm seeing...
Thanks! I'm enjoying getting to know my phone all over again with the Froyo update!
So I broke down and finally installed SC 2.6 just a few minutes ago.
Had no problems with odin or booting up the phone.
But when I go to the market to download titanium backup, the market comes up with an error that says download was unsuccessful..
I've tried rebooting my phone and downloading other apps but they all have the same error.
Any suggestions?
I heard there was a leak for gingerbread. Is this true or just baseless rumors?
I want to thank everyone who writes in this post. I was scared to death to do (root my phone) this, but DroidXcon and everyone else makes it a point to make things easy to understand. I just rooted to the 2.6x version successfully and now can enjoy my phone like the gods intended. Thanks!

Hoping you can help me. I installed EB01 full stock via Odin. Worked like a charm! Thanks for the instructions. I just learned tonight that I am basically limited as to the "fun" I can have with this because it is not the deodexed version. I don't like feeling limited. So I figured I may try the deodexed, debloated version. So my question: Can I just install the deodexed version right over the stock version and be good to go?
That was for the i9000. punk_kaos said it probably wouldn't help too much
I see. Would've been nice if it worked for ours. Haha.
I'm still having too much fun learning all the new things Froyo gives us to be even remotely concerned with Gingerbread.
