[Odin] Froyo leaked packaged custom ROMs w/root and clockwork **UPDATED**3/25

You don't need to follow any threads that have to do with root. When you use Odin, and one of the packages that DroidXcon has provided, you'll always get root unless you're putting in DI01 or a true stock rom from Verizon. If you put one of those in, then yes, you need to follow root instructions, but why would you do that when you're coming here to get a hacked Froyo ROM?

That said, yes, get something like Titanium and backup your phone. Then come to the dark side and get one of the ROMs here like Super Clean 2.8, and make sure that you get the one that wipes the data from your phone. You'll see two different packages, one with a little x after the SC28 and one without. The one without the little x is what you want when coming from Eclair 2.1.

When your phone boots back up, after following the instructions on the original post, you'll have a brand spanking new phone. I like it so much that I get tempted every day to walk into my local Verizon store and yell SUCK IT! because I get better treatment from the folks here than I ever have through VZW.

Hey SuD, he wanted to be able to back up his apps with titanium backup first before wiping his data so he could restore them without having to go into the market and install them all one at a time. He is coming from complete stock, never rooted, so it's actually a pretty darn good idea to just root the stock phone to get tibu. Especially if you have a lot of apps.

the wipe version of 2.8 is causing my odin to hang. I redownloaded it, and odin and still get the same issue. Was able to Odin my phone back to 2.6 and then CWM 2.8 so I am ok.

Just wondering if anyone else had this issue with the odin install of non-voodoo 2.8 from this thread?

My bad. Thanks for the correction. Yea, I would root your stock, backup, then come over to the dark side and restore.

That's what I get for trying to help here and dig on Dragon Age at the same time.

Not I. Though I always have butterflies when I flash because of the off chance something will throw up in the process. But mine always seems to work okay.

Ah, multitasking. showoff

DXc: also having problems with the 2.8 "full" version and ODIN. It crashes trying to flash DBDATA. Previous versions seem to work fine, so it's not something that's gone awry with my system.

Will ODIN myself to 2.6 w/ EB16 kernel and go with Adryn's .zip and see what happens :(

edit: I opted to re-flash to your 2.6 wipe/full version and then immediately flash 2.8 "no wipe" on top of it, that seems to have worked OK so far. I manually wiped the snot out of it before I started, so should be all good.

Methinks there's something up with the dbdata.rfs. A binary diff between the one included in 2.6 and one in 2.8 shows a 3-byte difference in the file ... on purpose, or a bug?

Comparing files olddbdata.rfs and NEWDBDATA.RFS

Noob question, Trying to start the process and following the steps in the OP but the download for Update Zip says it going to take 2.5 hrs. Really? I've tried to re-download three to four different times to see the times would re-adjust much, but no go. Anyone having an issue?

Nope. The file is only 1.33mb. Took like 1 or 2 seconds when I just tried it. I can't imagine there is a pc out there today that would take that long to download a file that small.

I have a question I flashed SC 2.8 and now my phone won't vibrate when I get a text or call. Already messed with all the settings and still won't work can some one help me out please?

Thanks

What do you mean it won't vibrate? Does that mean you can't put it in vibration from the volume rocker, it won't vibrate when you make selections?

Landshark, I know, I'm puzzled. The odin file and some the unrelated items tonight have been no problem. Thats why I thought it might be site specific or item specific to MegaUpload. I guess I'll just have to wait.
When it does finish downloading, I' not quite sure where on the SD card its suppose to be placed? Or do you just drag and drop on main card icon?

I tried it but the same thing happened. I really like the rom though. I just want my data connection back.

i think we are going to have to flash back to stock , if that doesnt work im going to have to rack it to hardware failure, are you ready to flash to stock?

On your phone, hit the menu soft key then go =>settings=>applications=>development and make sure usb debugging is checked. Now plug your phone into your pc with the usb cable that came with the phone. Pull down the notification bar and click on usb connected, click on the gray "connect usb storage" bar, then hit OK. you should have an auto play window pop up on your pc. Click "open folder to view files" That first directory that opens up is the root or base of your sd card. That is where the update.zip file needs to go.
