[Odin] Froyo leaked packaged custom ROMs w/root and clockwork **UPDATED**3/25

Also, I've tried to look it up a little bit, but I haven't ever really seen or heard...what exactly IS a modem when it comes to cell phones? In layman's terms, what function does a modem provide?

modem provides data and cell connectivity to your phone. with out it you would basically have an expensive PDA device

Yes, this is the method you will use from now on to flash new ROMs, themes, add-ons, etc. Download the zip file to your sd card. Boot into recovery one of two ways. The easy way is hold down the volume button and choose recovery from that menu. The other way is to hold down the volume up, volume down, and power buttons until you see the samsung logo flash for a second time, then let go of all three buttons. Either way should put you into blue stock recovery or directly into red clockworkmod recovery (cwm.) If you booted to blue, hit the volume down button once so apply sdcard:update.zip is highlighted and hit the home soft key. This will take you into red cwm. Scroll to install zip from sd card with the volume button, but instead of the home soft key, in red cwm you use the power button to choose things so hit it. Then scroll to choose zip from sd card and hit the power button. This will take you to the root of the sd card. If you put the zip file there you will see it. If not you will need to use the volume buttons and power button to navigate to whatever folder you put the zip file into. Once you have found the zip file, use the volume buttons to scroll to and highlight it, then hit the power button. You will go to a confirmation page, just scroll to the only yes in the menu and hit the power button. Once the installation is complete hit the menu soft key (lower left of the phone) until you are back at the main red cwm menu where reboot system now will be highlighted at the top of the menu. Hit the power button and wait for the phone to reboot. Done. Easy peasy, winner winner chicken dinner.

When you flash a theme is it necessary to wipe everything before you flash it?

I don't. But if it's a theme with a lot of customizations or you are replacing another theme it can't hurt to wipe cache and dalvik cache.

Thanks DroidXCon! I Just rooted my brand new verizon fascinate and installed your 2.8 rom. couldn't have been easier.

goodbye verizon crapware! Thanks a lot.

If anyone knows the answer to this, great. When I sign on to the topic board through Tapatalk Pro, it never goes to the last page... even though I've read every post! It goes to two or three pages short every time. Grrrr.

Strange Issues - Taskbar

Beginner - Used ODIN to put up EB01_DXC.tar.md5. Put it up Sunday - worked easy - like a charm. Worked all day monday. Then charged on Monday night. Top status bar had a BATTERY 100 icon on the top left. Pulled battery. Hard to restart. Now phone seems operational but have a USB connected on the status bar. If I click it I get a USB connected App with a button to connect USB storage. Any ideas anyone?

DroidXcon, thanks for the guide. Rooted successfully after waiting for so long (since November of 2010, though not as long as others). I do have a quick question.

In step 1, you noted that one should place Update.zip at the directory level of the SD card. However, I did not see any instructions to do anything with it. I rooted with Odin, using froyo EB16SC28x_DXC.tar. Upon reboot I was prompt to select whether I should apply Update.zip or perform a normal boot. I selected the normal boot and everything seems to work fine. Should I have installed Update.zip?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you should have installed update.zip. You will need it later as you become more proficient with your phone and start flashing themes, ROMs, kernels, and add-ons through clockworkmod recovery (cwm.) Update.zip is the key to get into cwm for now.

Thanks Landshark,
Is it possible to still apply the update now? If so, can you point me to the direction?

Thanks,

Yes xGINx , just download update.zip from the first post, plug in your phone, from your computer copy update.zip from download folder and paste it into sd card drive

you can find the drive by going to start on your desktop, then selecting computer, then look for the removeable drive 16gb open it and paste the zip in that window

What is the difference between the EB01DB_DXC.tar file and the EB16SC28x_DXC.tar files? I know one uses the Superclean 2.8 kernel. Does the other use the stock kernel? If so, what are the main benefits of the Superclean kernel?

They are exactly the same except the one with the x does not wipe data...but if you are on eclair and you don't you the version that wipes data your phone will go nuts

The EB1628x_DXC.tar file doesn't just include the sc kernel, it includes the sc 2.8 ROM. The kernel is just the base building block of the ROM. The EB01DB_DXC.tar includes the debloated/deodexed ROM. The Froyo leak the devs got their hands on was stock EB01. Adrynalyne deodexed that build and removed a bunch of the Verizon bloat to create the debloated/deodexed ROM. He then did further customization, removed more unnecessary files, and modified the kernel slightly to create the superclean ROMs.
