i am thinking about going to 2.9 from 2.8. if i do, do i need to do a nanadroid back up and clear any thing?

You don't have to do a nandroid backup. You can if you want to play it safe. 2.9 is so stable I have been pounding the hell out of it flashing all kinds of stuff over it and have not had one force close or any kind of issue. You can do a nandroid on the off chance you end up liking 2.8 over 2.9, then you can just restore your nandroid to easily go back to 2.8. For me, as soon as I looked at the changelog for 2.9 I knew I wasn't going back to 2.8 from 2.9, so I didn't bother with a nandroid backup. I still have the 2.8 zip file on my sd card if I need it.

Finally am tired of waiting for froyo and decided to root. thank you to everyone, especially to adynalyne for taking the time and effort to put this all together and help us non tech geniuses out. stupid question #1.can you go right from stock EA28 to your SC 2.8. I want to be able to tether. and#2.will I have to re-activate my phone. I live in a area where if I push *228 i get US cellulars prompts. I have to drive about an hour to get coverage to activate. found that out the hard way after factory resetting yesterday. thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to answer and introduce someone to the rooting world.

You had to remove it from the 2.9 ROM?

Yes because it would either boot up with Force close issues or boot up into recovery and unless you manually wipe you get force close issues..... its because the wipe gets triggered at bootup but for some reason CWM All interupts the wipe and it never happens

This method is not exactly rooting, root is included but thats now what Odin does, it actually rewrites the firmware of the phone with a new operating system.

I have never had to reactivate my phone after flashing.

yes you can go from EA28 to 2.8 or 2.9(which ill post in about 10mins) but you must use the data wipe version , so you will lose contacts and apps

Really??? Really??? Abandoned??? 40 minutes is abandoned? Have you noticed how busy these forums have been today with everyone wanting to get 2.9 and asking and answering questions. DroidXcon is super busy trying to get his ODIN packages to work so people who are new to rooting and not comfortable using cwm can get 2.9, I'm testing out several things. We are doing the best we can to help as many people as we can, but every once in a while someone slips through the cracks. I saw what happened to your first post. You and PJnc284 both posted at 4:49. Yours posted first and ended up at the bottom of page 294 and PJnc284's post went to the top of page 295. When I am jumping from thread to thread to help people I just hit the last page link for that thread, so I would have missed your first post because of the timing of the first post. If that happens and your question doesn't get answered in a timely manner, then by all means post again to ask your question. But to say your question or this thread has been abandoned? Also take into consideration how busy the forums and especially that thread in particular are at that time. Read the rules and guidelines of the forums and it addresses that specific issue of showing patience when asking questions. So many people here go out of their way to help as many people as they can and I'm really getting tired of my help or perceived lack there of being met with a poor attitude. I was helping two people at the same time with a similar problem in another thread by giving them what I thought was some information that may help them and both of them basically slapped me in the face by specifically telling me they didn't see how the information was relevant to their problems. The Moderators and Administrators may give me an infraction or more for this rant, but I'm ok with that. I spend hours upon hours here at the forums trying to help people, but I'm starting to get to the point where I don't want to do it anymore. So sorry I abandoned you.

Oh man that sucks because everyone who used your method to get to 2.8 and now is flashing 2.9 is automatically getting cwm-all since Adry included it in the ROM. Even though they had cwm-froyo with your package, the cwm-all is overwriting it, and everyone is booting directly to cwm-all after flashing the ROM. They don't even need to delete update.zip, cwm-all is completely disregarding and blowing right through that. So all that work I put into that how to about booting directly to cwm-all that I was so excited was finally going to be relevant and I was going to update, went from being irrelevant to relevant back to irrelevant in a nanosecond

yeah thats because it replaces the kernel. and they dont need to worry about wiping since they were already on superclean 2.x

Just bad timing that that happened right after what I said in that post about those two guys telling me my help was irrelevant. And you have to remember you are typing, so sarcasm and humor aren't as easy to detect as when you are saying it. A smiley face or Android with tongue hanging out after the word abandoned would have helped.

my packages will do it for you as long as you dont use the No data wipe packages

You are good, it works with or without the battery in but it works better with the battery out
