[ODIN] Gingerbread EF02 Leak Available with Root Instructions

Well you can use programs like Root Explorer or any other root level access file explorer to go in and delete/remove bloat if you like from /system/app/ . There will be example.. .

Browser.apk
Browser.odex

Seeing how this is still an odex system you have both the normal .apk that we are used to seeing in ROMs and also the .odex part of the file. Both can be deleted to remove bloatware.

You have use of any Root access programs like wireless tethering, backup apps, screen shot apps. As far as flashing any themes previously used on EE03 we can't at the moment with this current version we flashed because it isn't deodexed. So we are limited in what we can do to modify things at this point.

The wireless tethering sound good. I'm going TDY intwo weeks and not sure if there will be any internet service for my netbook. Ill have to look into it. Thanks

After update

Didn't root it yet but I noticed after I installed Quick Lancher Pro the screen calibration lags and also some screens don't appear properly unless you backout and go back to it. Noticed that keyboard timeout isn't always in sync with the screen timeout.

I just installed EF02 last night and it seems pretty good. One nice thing is that the phone did not vibrate in the middle of the night, while on the dock, to alert me that the battery is full. But I have noticed one thing this morning, my phone was at 88% when I removed it from the dock. It was at 100% earlier in the night.

Does the phone stop charging the battery once it reaches 100% to protect the battery?

There has been many reports of noticable screen rotation lag. No fix has been come up with yet.

It should unless there is a bug in the the leak preventing this.

There are suttle changes with Gingerbread.

Overall better performance, battery life. More security updates and bug fixes.

Updated Sprint Nav to Telenav
Swype 3

There is more to this update I can't find the list at this moment. Remember this is still a leaked version so things may not be acting as expected.

.

The Telenav was already out about a month ago or more you just had to do the update within the Sprint Nav to get so that is not new.

Telenav has actually been out longer than that but in this situation I meant that Telenav is now coming stock with this build verses having to do the update.

Phone is stuck on Recovery (recovery.bin) in Odin and has a solid blue screen. Should I power down and try again?

See that you can turn off GPS in the camera options.

Well now I am getting stuck with a red screen on factoryfs (factoryfs.rfs).

What to do now?

The only thing that I have noticed on my Epic is shorter battery life on EF02, and EE03 for that matter. It could be my setup, but GB seems to eat thru my battery quickly. You can notice a nice speed increase when opening applications, and when switching screens. The GPS, bluetooth, and 4G work great. I guess I have to wait for an debloated ROM to help wit the battery issue.

Why not just debloat it yourself using root explorer or a similar app?

Never tried that. I'm excelent at following instructions, but debloating when I am not sure of what I am doing will only result in me having to odin the OS into the phone again :-).

Is battery life degraded significantly from the optimized froyo custom ROMs? How many hours are you getting? I've been craving to flash my phone for a while (haven't done so for a couple of months :( ).

I am running ACS Frozen for now with the EE03 modem firmware and its better then the last but still not the best when will they have just the radio firmware so that i can try that? i am not loading a leaked version or a rom based off a leaked version waiting for a ACE or ACS based off the official ginger rom...

Any feedback on general performance relative to EE03? (I found it interesting that there were not a lot of comments in the past on EE03 being really laggy, while for me at least it was much slower than the stock Froyo I had been running before.)

EE03 for me also ate batteries for breakfast, lunch and dinner -- well, not for dinner, since it never made it past mid-afternoon. :) I thought maybe I just had a bad flash or some other app causing the problem, so I reflashed and ran it naked for a couple weeks with nothing installed; still had terrible battery life. Interestingly, if I viewed what was using the battery, the main culprit (90%+) was always "Android System" which if you drilled into it turned out to be CIQ. Did anyone else happen to notice that?

In any case, I would like to flash EF02, but before I do I'm hoping someone will confirm that it's noticeably faster than EE03 -- and maybe check the battery usage to ensure that "Android System," aka CIQ, is not still eating battery like it was for me on EE03. Also if anyone has Quadrant / Nenamark / Linpack numbers for EF02 I'd love to see them. Thanks!

This new build so far is much better than the EE03 build. Hands down the radio is much better. I'm outside Philly, and have had a solid 4g (3mb down/1.5mb up) connection. 3g is just a bit slower than that here. The hardware keyboard still drops keys. Battery life is incredible, went all day yesturday (13hrs) before hitting the 15% mark. This was with 4g on all day, netflix, many games, browsing, gps (locked on quick and accurately). I they deem this build not good enough for an official release, we'll all be very happy with what they do release.

This has happened to me in the past. I tried repeatedly by pulling the battery and restartng but it didn't work out. What I did was pull out my SD card before my next attempt and it work. Try it ad let me know how it goes.

[Files & Guide] All *.apks & Framework / Apps safe to remove - xda-developers This is a solid guide for what is safe to remove and it still applies to EF02. I use root explorer to remove the apps I dont want then a simple reset and they are gone. Titanium Backup can be used also or an alternative.
