[ODIN] Official Froyo ED01 packaged custom ROMs w/Root - Updated 06/12/11

From Guru to Noob after 7 years... Can I ask a question for clarification?

First, to the mod and devs, you thanks for the obviously huge investment of time it takes to do all of what you do. Especially for the very well written tutuorial, which, makes this an even more humbling and rather embarrassing question:

I have just read the entirety of this thread, post by post from start to finish, making notes here and there, and downloading the files I believe I need. I have 7 years under my belt creating, hacking and moding for windows mobile, up until 7. At which point I switched to an android handset and here I am... TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT WORLDS I MIGHT ADD... and now I am completey lost.

SO... the reason for this long winded post (OMG I'm becoming my mother... I'll make the rest brief... I promise)

The files and proceedures from the time the intructional was originally written; are they still the same? or am I correct in thinking there have been a few changes in the last several weeks with the release of ED01?

I had a stock fascinate. I followed the initial fascinate for noobs thread and successfully Rooted the handset, but that is it. No new kernals, roms, radio's, recovery's, or Voodoo... at least I'm pretty sure I don't have voodoo seeing as I'm not exactly sure what it is.

The clockwork recovery screen no longer pops when I put it into recovery mode, just the stock blue one, which per the instructions is what is supposed to happen, correct? So at this point, am I right in thinking that I need to:

- Make a backup
- Use Odin and flash the ED01DB_DOx_SHARK.tar file
- unplug, close and reopen odin
- Then Flash the cwm-recovery-ALL-3-30-FIX.tar
and then I am done? Or do I need a kernal still?

I really did do as much digging as possible but before I go and cause some catastrophe on my phone I just want to make sure I was paying attention to what I read.

Again, thanks for the patience, because I know you have gone over this roughly 170 times so far... I appreciate the clarity.

Yeah thats it, it installs the kernel you need
but before you flash clockwork let the phone boot up then go back and flash cwm

UH OH... Houston, I think we have a problem...

So I rebooted after following the step by step instructions from post 1, and now I am looking at a red screen that says:

CwM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery v.2.5.1.x

What do I do now?

EDIT: just saw your reply, to which, I didn't reboot inbetween flashes... so how do I resolve this? (you have no idea how embarrassed I am right now... sorry about this...)

What was your set up before flashing this? Did your phone have the ED01 Froyo OTA update or were you still on Eclair DL09 or EA28? If you were on EA28, you should be able to just hit the power button when reboot system now is highlighted.

Wow, you guys are fast... thank you so much..

I was ED01 Froyo OTA update, and rooted... but only rooted, the clockwork recovery didn't stick, I was just taking it one step at a time. so I am going to reboot and see what happens

EDIT:------------

So Once I realised that touching the home button just turned off the screen, I pushed the power button and it rebooted... and now the word android in landscape on my screen and shimmering. this must be part of the 4 minute boot up I believe I read about...

Yes, this would be the 4 minute warning, anticipation period.

Landshark, you're a rockstar! It worked! and clockwork is now permanantly in place along with voodoo... unless this is way off topic, could briefly break down exactly what the voodoo lag fix options are about?

Or direct me to the thread where I might find that answer?

Thanks again to both you and DroidXcon for the quick assist... I owe you both for that...

You're welcome. For a great explanation of voodoo you can check out gunnermike53's voodoo thread here:

Also to help you understand rooting on Android better, check out Sheepdog Elite's great thread here if you already haven't:

Love it guys, updated from the superclean 2.9.2 to this ED01, clean install and reinstalled my themes from before and it works great, battery improvement for sure...haven't moved even 10% in the last hour or so. Good work!!

Forgive me if this is in the previous 31 pages somewhere, but where does this one fall in with 2.9.2 and the Community ROM? Just trying to figure out which is the "best" (if there is an objective answer to that) one to use.

This debloated/deodexed ROM is made from the official ED01 Froyo release, but this ROM is not as clean and polished as SC or Comm ROM. So even though it is ED01, I would say it falls below SC and Comm ROM in my opinion.

Thanks. So is the Com ROM a step up from 2.9.2?

I think most people would say that. SC is based on EB01 which was a rejected ROM, Comm ROM is based on ED01. Comm ROM is a collaboration of several devs. And probably the best indication is Adrynalyne stopped making SC ROMs to work on Comm ROM.

Just flashed this over S.C. 2.9.2. Just a quick question, If I already flashed CWM-recovery-all-3-30-fix.tar before, do I have to flash it again?

Well, you could always boot into recovery and see if you still have it. That'd be the easiest way to tell if you need to or not. You should still have it tho.

I just wanted to post a quick thanks to Landshark for this post and Pikanate for directing me here...I followed these instructions to the letter, and I am excited to say I have a lean, de-Binged phone! :) Thanks so much!

One final clean-up question...

I still have a "busybox" and "su" file on the root of my SD card which was placed there when I rooted over the weekend. Can I remove these now?

Thanks!

Cant forget Droidxcon in there too.

I really don't deserve the thanks though, i just pointed you out to Landsharks and Droidxcons packages they put together. The real thanks go to them.
