Official Battery Life Thread

anyone leave their 4g, gps and wifi on the entire time?

Yes, nearly always. And I almost never enable Bluetooth. I got the GN on release day, but have only been 'conditioning' it for the past couple nights.

At ~midnight last night it had been on battery 16hrs and still showed 15%. However, I was home...which means constant wifi connection, solid 3g service, no 4g service, dim screen (via auto-brightness). Top consumers...screen @ 40%, OS @ 25%.

As is well known, 4g is the killer. Take my phone on the road, brighten the screen and move from wifi to 4g and battery life is cut in half (which is still a solid day...8-10hrs?).

I am finding that the Galaxy Nexus actually has pretty decent battery life compared to other Androids in the past. I am getting around 16+ hours on what I consider normal use. Here is what I consider normal use... about 100-200 texts a day, 1-3 phone calls (connected to car bluetooth most of the time), using WiFi where available and turning off when not, turning bluetooth off when not connected to my car, GPS off except for Google Location Services,

  • 100-200 Texts per Day
  • Checking Email (Auto-sync set for 30 Minutes on 2 Accounts aside from Gmail)
  • 1-3 Phone Calls (Most made when connected to car bluetooth)
  • WiFi Connected at Home/Work, not on when no WiFi connection.
  • Bluetooth off when not connected to my car
  • GPS Off except for Google Location Services
  • Auto Screen Brightness, Back light timeout 15 seconds
  • Occasionally browsing the web (5-10 min total est.)
  • Browsing Android Market and Amazon Market
  • Checking Facebook/Twitter/Google+/LinkedIn occasionally
  • CDMA Network only (Don't get 4G where I live yet)

If there is anything that I forgot to add I will edit the post but thats pretty much it I believe.

Here is a screen shot of battery stats as well:

So far I'm getting almost exactly the same battery life as my Droid X w/ CM7 did, although majority of my time using it so far has been at work or home, both of which mean WiFi connection. I'm sure it will be a lot shorter when on 4g only. It'll be interesting to see how it handles travelling over the holidays.

My battery is about where it was with the Bionic and Charge. Tbolt battery always stunk for me.

Sooo. Why has the os been keeping itself awake?

This is with 16 hours on battery plus two little car charging stints this morning running errands.
The code.google.com thread referrenced earlier may have hit the nail on the head. If/when they fix this OS awake thing, this phone is gonna be nuts.

Well, this is my first day with my Nexus in my office in Chicago on the 33rd floor. Also, first day using the extended battery. I am highly disappointed. I am switching in and out of 4g constantaly, and in 4 1/2 hours, I am down to 27%. Screen is on auto, did some light browsing, emails and 1/2 hour of music. Signal sucks compared to my Thunderbolt. I really hope there is a fix for this. I have been getting right around 10 hours on the stock battery with light usage. I know I need to cycle through a few times on the new battery, but initial thoughts are that this sucks.

My extended battery was also bad when I first got it. Just after 1 or 2 cycles it improved a lot. I can now get at least 10-12 hours on heavy-medium usage.

This is with "typical" use for me (web browsing, email, texts, a few brief games) and about 6 hrs of sleep. 4G is on alternating with Wifi at home/work.

I'm really happy how the battery is turning out.

I'm running the extended battery and I typically have wifi and bluetooth turned on. Battery life is about as expected for me. It isn't great but I'm in the habit of just having chargers everywhere, cars, house, RV. If I go there on a daily basis I have a charger there. I can live with the battery because I'm used to it. Had a Tbolt before this so keeping chargers handy was not a luxury but a necessity.

few phone calls, fieldrunners hd, web browsing, some speedtest all on standard battery...not bad

Well here's a weird one.. I was down to around 18 percent after about 8 hours or so, and my phone randomly rebooted while sitting on my desk. When it powered back up its was at 47 percent charged???

Im actually pretty impressed with the battery so far. I charged it up for the first time and wiped stats. I have been on this thing for over 9 hours non stop as well as using it for GPS, phone calls, browsing and just playing around on my day off.

Its just about to discharge now...
