Official Cyanogen 6.0+ Thread

Is it possible to swap out the dialer or phone software on this ROM back to the HTC sense version or is the phone interface too baked in the ROM to swap out easily?

I loved the nice large picture of the person that displays with HTC sense dialer compared to the tiny thumbnail that CM6 displays when someone is calling.

It was nice to see who was calling at a distance from my phone or without putting on the reading glasses. Maybe there is a setting for thumbnail size but I don't think so.

I found an app that is supposed to allow a full screen caller ID picture but it crashes every time I try to load a picture. Contacting the developer now.

Anyone else have issues with the Good Morning app when on CM6? I am on the stable version and it's not working in the mornings. Been using this alarm for a while but would be willing to switch if one of yall have a suggestion. I will prbly download a couple to try out but I hope to avoid finding out an alarm doesn't work the hard way.

Thanks.

Kernal Problems

It seems I have a hard time getting any Kernel to work.

Snap v7.6 CFS/BFS will work but as soon as I turn on turbo the phone goes into an infinite loop on start up.

So I decided to try Kings cfs 11 and Kings cfs 9 and at first I thought they installed and worked ok but after reboot when I tried to use the phone I realized it was locked up - touch screen and buttons all unresponsive.

To see if it was Cyanogen, I installed the Myn RLS 2 ROM and tried these kernels and had the same problem with each one - at boot the phone would go into an infinite loop. The Myn RLS 2 ROM did work fine with the stock HTC Kernel it comes with.

It seems the only Kernels I can get working are the ones that come with the ROMs and snap 7.6 without turbo on Cyanogen.

Any ideas why kernels would be giving me so many issues? In looking at these boards, it seems that kernels rarely give people any problems.

Kings kernel #11 and 9 are only for sence roms.

For CM King got different kernels, try this link:

[KERNEL] [AOSP/CM] [2.6.32.24] [HAVS][BFS][BFQ] KiNgxKernel #1/#2 "Caught My Breath" - xda-developers

I prefer snap, its a much better Kernel. which version of CM are you running?

You are not able to swap anything from a sence rom, sence needs to be running in order to work.

Ok good info. It looks like the CM6 ROM I downloaded is:

Update-cm-6.0.0-Supersonic-RC2-signed.zip

The snap kernels work with my CM6 ROM until I try to turn on Snapturbo.

However Kings Kernel would not work with the Sense ROM Myn RLS 2 either. I loaded MYN fine and set it up then, upgraded the kernel to first #11 than #9 and both sent it into an infinite loop. Foolish me, I did not do a nandroid backup before trying to change the kernel so about 2 hours of setting the new ROM up were wasted.

The game plan was to set it up, then back it up so I would have a backed up ROM that work with 4 G that I could switch to for when I traveled. Anyway, back to square one on that.

Still hoping that Cyanogen can figure out how to add 4g one day soon.

You shouldn't used CM RC2, the Latest stable version: 6.0.0-Supersonic - 08/28/2010
follow this link to get it

[ROM][WTF][BBQ] CyanogenMod-6 - No Sense at ALL! - V6.0.0 (08/28/2010) - xda-developers

The new CM 6.1 RC1 is coming out sometime this week.

I was using Myn's ROM with Kings #9 with no problem. are you wiping cache and dalvik before flashing the kernel?

I'll just wait for CM 6.1 then.

Yes I wiped cache and dalvik when doing MYN.

A lot of people here switch ROMs like underwear (no offense ;)), so maybe someone can help me get this correct..

I have Titanium Pro and appbrain so can someone post a quick how to change out Cyanogen ROMs list.

I am thinking:

  • Run titanium Batch process: Backup all user apps + system data
  • Do Nandroid Backup
  • Run new Cyanogen ROM zip from SD card
  • Boot into phone
  • Reinstall Titanium Pro
  • Run Titanium Pro Batch - Restore all apps with data
  • Reboot phone
  • Good to go!

If list above is incorrect please correct my mistakes..

Also, if I want to add the snap 7.6 Kernel this is what I would do next:
  • go to hboot
  • Nandroid backup
  • wipe data and clear Dalvik
  • Run 7.6 snap kernel from SD card
  • Reboot into phone
  • Turn on snapturbo and hope for the best.

This is a a very dumb question....but I can't figure it out.

How do I change the phone top panel wall paper. Currently I show the standard cyanogen android robot wallpaper. I would like to switch to a simple black background or something not so busy. I dug around a bit and did not find any wallpaper setting.

Or is the only way to change phone top panel background is to find the theme I want and change themes?

Phone top panel wallpaper? I'm not quite sure what your talking about.

As for your previous post, I don't use appbrain or Titanium, but just use appbrain to back up and restore apps. I've read a few posts of titanium borkin stuff...but like i said i dont use them. I have copies of my apps (using astro) and I install fresh once I get my roms working. Works well for me

Now, snap Turbo. It only worked using the stable CM, and it took 5 times to actually work. Your list looks good, just let Turbo do its thing and reboot..just don't touch the phone till its done..seriously!

I had tearing issues with snap kernels..otherwise its pretty quick. Quadrant of 2600 which is G2 o/c fast lol...good luck

When I hit the home button, behind the icons is what I can best describe as wallpaper like on a desktop, except each panel has this wallpaper and it seems to shift a bit as I move between panels (screens) on the phone. Instead of having the busy wallpaper I have now, I just want a plain black wallpaper

Perhaps upgrading a ROM would be different from changing to a different ROM as some things might come along with Titanium that a completely different ROM does not support and hence a BORK. In this case, I just want to upgrade from CM6 to CM6.1 so maybe a full Titanium restore will work.

With Titanium I can also just back up and restore the apps and not the data so I could do a one button all app restore. However, doing an apps and data backup, I think would save me time resetting up all the apps and settings from scratch with a new ROM. Again, I think this is how Titanium works...

I read here somewhere that if you switch ROMS a lot Titanium Pro is a must have. Anyone out there use it? If so, how do you use it when upgrading a ROM to the newest release?

Sorry for 'ROMbling' on so much:)

I use the donate version of Titanium and love it for rom switching, I just restore apps only except for like my browser (bookmarks) and feedr (rss feeds).

you dont need to wipe if going from cm6 to cm6....

Turbo works fine on the nightlys for me...

So my steps are ok?

* Run titanium Batch process: Backup all user apps + system data

* Boot into phone
* Reinstall Titanium Pro

So, there have been a TON of updates on twitter since last week as CM tries to get another RC together for the masses (and the effort is appreciated!). I understand that CM -the man the myth the legend- himself is taking a crack at getting 4G up and running. I also know that FM radio is just about ready. Here's my question: Any of you programmer types looking at the changelog or twitter updates able to describe some of the changes in a manner that I could understand? For example, I see lots of kernel changes, but have no idea what they mean for the user experience. Do they likely mean speed and battery upgrades? I welcome any speculation...

This will work for the most part, some nightlies have significant changes so if anything changes on the system all the data might not restore right but you should never have a problem with apps.

I actually have the Titanium apk on my SD card so I don't have to login with Google and starting getting a bunch of app updates before I do my first restore. (You can get the apk from their site actually)

Great idea. I found what they call "a slightly older version" on their site. I guess that's what you were talking about. It would be nice to have the latest APK but I guess that is good enough to get me going without logging into google.

Yup, that's what I use. I figured at one point the "slightly older" version was the new version and I haven't had a problem with it. I also had the older style donate version (not the paid one from the market) so it finds my license key on the SD card right away too. That way is just convenient for me to avoid the market updates.

I did some reading on the xda-dev forums and from what I gather, it sounds like it will be a while before cm 6.1 which may or may not have 4G. They are focusing on the next RC which will not have 4g. Apparently last weekend's push to get 4G on the EVO hit a dead end.

I'll probably switch out of this ROM until they figure out how to get 4G, a radio, and HDMI working. Why stick with a crippled ROM when there are working ROMS out there?
