Official Droid X Froyo update thread

If you are stuck in the Motorola Logo

I got the update at 1:00 AM EST, I'm not rooted, never been and everything went smoothly until it restarted. Then it got stuck in the Motorola Logo. I thought it was part of the process but it never left and later on I found out the phone was running behind it.

so you got 2 options. Either do a battery pull a couple of times (chances are it will be stuck in the screen for multiple tries). Or hold the home key and guess where the turn off shortcut so it will turn off your phone again. I did this like 5 times. Then the regular screen came back and everything is working fine.

I love the new update, the phone is fast, really responsive and I'm still finding something new. I don't know why so many people are complaining it's like they will never be happy regardless of what kind of phone they get. Remember there is no such thing as perfection.

Cheers!

Dear Verizon,
Thanks for the 2.2 update! And thanks for letting me pull the update. Buuut I got some issues. Please keep vz navigator off my phone, it sucks, its not free, and falls short of Google nav. And please don't slow down my page scroll speed.

Sometimes I look at this forum on my phone, this is one of those times

Got the update with no problems.

I'm a little disappointed that twitter and facebook profiles still override manual profile settings. I can't edit profile pictures or names when the account is linked to a twitter or facebook profile.

I had hoped this was solved in froyo. :(

So has anyone seen any differences between the first leaked 2.2 and the official OTA 2.2?

...I'm currently on the leaked 2.2 and my plan was to go back to 2.1 then get the OTA 2.2 and reroot but people have been complaining about issues going from 2.1 to 2.2 after being on a leak and people have also been complaining about no previous issues being fixed so I thought I'd see what the general consensus is.

Got Froyo...works great. All my aps upgraded automatically (well, the ones that could). Gmail looks great. My only gripe is that it is making me enter a pin# to unlock the phone after the screen is locked. I cannot find how to turn this off. Is this an unfortunate side effect of Froyo? I really don't like having this feature on.

Updated at about 11:30pm central last night. Updated from stock 2.1 update 1 with no issues in about 15 minutes.

Flash does come preinstalled, however you can get to it in the market as well, I'm assuming to get the latest version and enable automatic updating?

I didn't think I'd like the new lock screen but seeing it in person changed my mind. New Swype keyboard look was jarring at first but looks nice. New gmail app is great. I'll post again if I think of anything else. :)

Outlook Calendar Font Color

Just updated to 2.2. Previously, my Outlook calendar events were very readable, with a nice contrast between the background and the font. With 2.2, calendar events show up with a white background and a light blue font. The claendar is unreadable for me without my reading glasses. This is a problem for a middle aged guy with failing eyesight. That is why I wanted such a large screen. There does not seem to be a setting that can be altered to change the color of the font.

Am I missing something? There must be some way to alter the font and background to suit individual preferences.

Updated 6am eastern time and all went smoothly and I an loving how smooth everything is now. The volume issue is still an issue for me though. It is a little louder ringing but not as loud as I was hoping. The speaker isn't even being stressed so I don't get why they don't push it up more. The alarm volume sounds like it hasn't changed at all and the media volume is ridiculously loud now lol. Overall it is better and eventing else is so smooth, I love it.

As far as having to enter a passcode to get in your phone.....

That is part of the Froyo update for Googles attempt to enhance security for enterprise.

To my knowledge unless your rooted there is no way to disable this...

So far this is what I and others are seeing

Adobe Flash
Colored labels in Gmail
Improved camera resolution
New slide to unlock
New Battery Manager
My Verizon
VZ navigator installed
Ringer Volume seems to be louder
Main text messaging interface tweaked a bit
Multi touch smilies restored
Gallery display is updated
smoother / quicker scrolling
Market access is slow
.com removed from multi touch keyboard
Flash NOT included in the download.
Some websites do not recognize that flash is installed.
Swype keyboard changed
Updated media player

I upgraded while plugged in, phone was not rooted, WiFi was turned on. LPP was installed and running prior to the launch, no task killer installed. Even though it is stated that Flash comes as part of the down load, it does not and has to be installed from the market.

The Need for Speed Shift game gets installed again.

I was hoping we could uninstall the bloat with this, but it was a pipe dream.

I've never rooted an android device and it's times like these that I'm glad I don't. But I will say that I HATE HATE HATE the fact that they added VZ Nav. Why on Earth would anyone purchase that when we have Google Nav?

On mine after the update, it used the pictures i had manually set for profiles, and not the facebook ones. Try changing one again, and see what happens.

Updated this morning with no issues and no noticed bugs. Stock phone. Scrolling is very smooth using LP+. Now the LP+ people widget works. Flash came installed and Gmail updated right away.

The only question I have is why does every app now seem to be running? Nothing is idle. Anyone else notice this?

The update failed for me the first time as well; however, I had forgotten change the .apk file names back to their original name. Once they were changed back the update went through perfectly.

Going through checking everything right now...

Thanks for the tip. Three battery pulls worked for me. Bizarre bug, but my X seems - for the last 5 minutes anyway - to be back to Froyo normality.
