Official Droid X Froyo update thread

So far this is what I and others are seeing

Adobe Flash
Colored labels in Gmail
Improved camera resolution
New slide to unlock
New Battery Manager
My Verizon
VZ navigator installed
Ringer Volume seems to be louder
Main text messaging interface tweaked a bit
Multi touch smilies restored
Gallery display is updated
smoother / quicker scrolling
Market access is slow
.com removed from multi touch keyboard
Flash NOT included in the download.
Some websites do not recognize that flash is installed.
Swype keyboard changed
Updated media player

I upgraded while plugged in, phone was not rooted, WiFi was turned on. LPP was installed and running prior to the launch, no task killer installed. Even though it is stated that Flash comes as part of the down load, it does not and has to be installed from the market.

Flash is included. It automatically downloads.

And you missed many other improvements:

Quick office is now installed.
New security enhancements for lock screen.
Google search (voice) enhancements.
News and Weather widget from stock 2.1 is now available.
New market widget that is stock from 2.2 is now available.
Able to "update all" and have automatic updates in market
Lock screen noises. Other such alert noises available.

Where is the "Update All" option in the market? I had heard this would be a part of Froyo...

If you have more than one app ready for update there will be a button on the bottom of the screen that says "update all"

Okay my BIG issue is I can no longer get into handscent for text messages and I cant even get into the regular text message screen it just shows black when I click it and then I hit the home key to get out. Any suggestions?

That's odd. I know this doesn't help much, but I am using handscent with no problems thus far...

upgraded overnite, everything went fine then i woke up this morning to try it out and quickly found a problem or a bug. if you choose to have no screen lock, then its just that no screen lock, but if you choose one of the others like pattern then you have to use the slider to get to the pattern making it even more difficult to get into your phone if you are one-handing it....in my opinion that is just stupid....anybody else seeing this problem or bug

Also, when I just tried to start a download from the marketplace all it says is starting download and it wont get any further than that?

Is anyone having trouble playing music in the media player? I get a message that says the player doesn't support that type of audio file, when it played fine in 2.1.

Okay, two things. I hope some of you have experienced these things, only because I hope someone has figured out how to correct them.

First, I use the desktop dock all day at work. With 2.1, the screen would stay on if I had the charging cable attached to the dock. This made it easy to check email or change the song on the music player. Now, with 2.2, the screen times out and I can't find any setting to adjust that.

Second, the battery settings have changed. I can't find the "smart" mode anymore. That setting worked great for me with 2.1. I would like to be able to use that again.

So, anybody experienced these issues and have a correction or direction for them?

As always, thanks for the help!

On mine after the update, it used the pictures i had manually set for profiles, and not the facebook ones. Try changing one again, and see what happens.

Strange... still no luck here. Only way I can get it to show my manual changes are to unlink the facebook and twitter profiles. Once I link em they overwrite.

To those getting the "Check for updates not available at this time" notice or simply finding that their phone continually searches without finding the froyo update:

I tried multiple times to pull the update last night and this morning, each time without success. Then, as soon as I uninstalled ATK and checked again, the update was immediately found. Maybe this is worth a shot for some who cannot pull it?

Yeah task killers are evil, bad, useless, un-good, things lol

We've been over this

Only issue I have is the battery managery will crash and force close if I select the battery to get usage statistics. Froyo install went smooth and fast.

Edit: Edit: Now that the phone has been up and running for 11+ hours, the battery manager properly displays the usage statistics. Odd, but now I have no problems with 2.2.

It has been renamed "Nightime saver" but it serves the same function. If you were on Smart pre-boot, you come out post-Froyo in Night mode.

Updated this morning, and had absolutely no issues. (I have a stock phone on 2.1, unrooted.) Download over wifi was maybe 6 or 7 minutes, and the installation certainly less than 5. The initial boot was a little longer than normal, and home screen took a bit before it reported the new O/S, but apart from that normal. Immediately got a notification that several apps could be upgraded, and all did except Dropbox for some reason, which continues to fail on the download.

So far everything has been running very smoothly. Swype is different, and I'm not sure if I like it or not yet, but nothing else to complain about so far.

I downloaded fine and then started the install. Went into a meeting for about 45 minutes and when I came out it seems to be stuck on the install. I have a white box with an arrow coming out of it and the little driod guy. Tried pushing some buttons and nothing happened. Stock X non-rooted. Any ideas on what to do?

I had my DX rooted with the 1 click method, then when leak 1 came (2.3.9) I used sbf to restore to 2.1 stock, as I had removed many bloatware apk's. After return to stock, I used the 1 click root again to get root, and moved my su file to the right folder, and installed leak and kept my root. Everything was great loved that version, had no probs. Today, of course, it did not pick up the new OTA update so I got the 2.1 sbf again. This time though instead of leaving phone on and RSD I rebooted into bootloader with camera+vol down+power then did RSD. Last time it went through whole process without a hitch, this time it got stuck in the boot loop near end of process. Pulled battery and plug and then put battery right back in and restarted with home+power, then did a factory reset/wipe, and reboot and it started right up with clean 2.1. I searched for update after activating the phone and it immediately found the 2.3.15 OTA update, seemed to have skipped the smaller 2.1 update from around launch time. Downloaded the update and installed all on it's own, went to drop the kids off at the pool and came back to hear the lovely "DRROOOIID", and it was off and running. Looking into the droid 2 root method now, but so far so good.
This is just some info for people on rooted 2.2 (Leak 2.3.9) that were confused or needed a little more info/someone to go first.

This is the guide I followed - THANKS VERY MUCH DaRkL3AD3R !

Will be following this root method - THANK YOU avlfive & karnovaran (@xda)

Good luck everyone.

PS - Adobe Flash 10.1 is already installed in your phone as part of 2.2, but I highly suggest going to market to install the Adobe Flash found there, it was in My Downloads but not installed. It installs right over the version on your phone, but due to the recent exploit that Adobe found and patched I think you should install newer updated version from market.

So far everything is running great. I like how the Swype keyboard is now light gray instead of the ugly dark gray. The market is slower than 2.1 but everything else is a lot faster.

I downloaded the new Gmail update and was wondering if anybody knew if there were a way to change label colors. I heard it was possible but can't figure out how to do it.

Edit: Nevermind. I figured out the changing of gmail colors has to be done through the desktop version.

i'm loving how my contacts now have the quick action buttons on them, and now my People widget in Launcher Pro allows for the quick action as well...awesome!

This makes me happy - it's the only thing I've been disappointed with in LP plus.

Did you/do you have to turn LPP off prior to upgrading?

Me and my wife was a rooted SU, but only to use autostarts, I deleted nothing and made no script changes... Perfect DL/Install.

Now here is my first found bugs: When resizing Moto's Date/Clock, my homescreen freezes and requires a power off.

Scrolling, both on app tray and homescreen is so fast and smooth.

Love the updated icons/widgets/fonts. They really polished the interface, small tweaks that really make this look like a professional and finished OS.

+1 on Froyo.

Edit: had no problems with installing with an active ATK, my wife has ATK free and it went fine also.

This is the exact same symptom I'm having, except I was stock with root. I did un root before the update earlier today. WTF??? Help!

If anyone is having the problem I had with being stuck on the boot up Motorola logo, a cache wipe fixed it.

Turn phone off, hold home button down while powering on and keep holding home button until you see a triangle with exclamation point next to the android dude. Press the search button (magnifying glass), use the volume rockers to select "wipe cache". Press camera button to select.

Worked for me.
