Official Droid X Froyo update thread

I got the update last night just before midnight, all went well. I'm not going to list everything I have noticed because it has all been said here numerous times. :) Everything is faster, easier, and I've had no problems at all. Screen resolution and scrolling seem better too.

News and Facebook widget are updating more frequently and not requiring a download of something else or reboot to update.

What I am going to say is the camera has improved 100%, pictures I took before were somewhat blurry and the colors were a bit washed out. Bear in mind that I am used to taking pictures with a DSLR so I have pretty high standards.
I have taken a couple since the update and I am very very pleased, they are nice and sharp, clear, vivid pictures and now they are geo tagged complete with co-ordinates listed.

I was not rooted or flashed and not running ATK or LP, after reading warnings I decided to wait until after the update to do too much tinkering.

Still not sure I will root as I'm just not sure I have any real need to, the bloatware isn't bothering me as it sits nice and quietly in the app drawer which I rarely open since I am using Folder Organizer and keep the apps I use in folders created with it.

All in all I am quite pleased. :)

Don't Love:
The fact that we STILL cannot copy/paste/cut text from any screen specifically emails. What the crap!!?

You can, at least in the Gmail app. Download the latest version in the market (the update never appeared prior to installing 2.2 as the latest version requires 2.2).

If you're reading an email using the app, hit the menu key, and select "More", you'll see an option to select text, using this will automatically copy whatever you select to the clipboard.

Someone tell me the huge advantage to rooting and then having to deal with crap like this. I've never rooted and my update went without a hitch. That plus I'm totally diggin most of the Froyo update. Lot's of improvements. Still like the old swype keyboard better though.

I was rooted, didn't unroot and pulled the 2.2 update without a hiccup. Although I didn't remove any of the bloatware, install leaked 2.2 versions, or install any custom themes or ROMs because I knew if I did, I wouldn't be able to pull the update.

I installed the update, rooted the phone again and now I enjoy my free WiFi hotspotting and the ability to take screenshots.

Biggest advantage to the Froyo update...the Bluetooth works in my Infiniti now. Thank goodness.

Since applying the Froyo update at 3am last night, the phone has never worked better. The biggest improvement is battery life. I left the WIFI on this morning by accident and have not turned it off. After multiple complaints to Verizon, they sent me the Extended battery for $8.00 and now magically, with everything I have running, I still have 80% battery life left. I could barely make it 10 hours before the 15% battery warning started and then the phone shut off. I am not a heavy user while I am working at home. I will be trying the standard battery tomorrow to see how long it lasts now. ( They also replaced this battery as well and the phone last week ). New onscreen camera button is definately easier then the red button and the overall speed of the phone is much improved. Got the new Gmail client and all is great so far. Glad I waited for the official release.

HELP PLEASE! installed Froyo this afternoon and having performance issues, scrolling is slower app drawer laggs applications lag (ie... market, sms client, gmail etc...) only thing i have installed since updates is LP, and the updates for stock apps. On my BB i know you would have to sometimes back date and reinstal OS updates if all wasnt what it was supposed to be. I have already factory data reset twice and battery pulled multiple times. If i need to back date to 2.1 and reinstall can someone please link me a how to? Thanks in advance for any help!

Manually checked for update this morning, had full battery at about 10:30 am, 2:45pm now and still at 70% on standard battery.
All the new features are working great, ESPECIALLY love the touch shutter on the camera, using the button was such a pain, been looking for an app forever for that and the update has brought it.
Couple new widgets & settings menu changed.
All in all, no issues. Battery life seems the same.

Hey every time I try to click on check for updates on my phone it says u auto update not available at this time check later any ideas?

My issue with the update failed was because the clockwork mod was installed.

I finally did what someone in another forum suggested was during the install hit the [search button] to display the log.

I showed me that it was the logwrapper was not correct.

I found this article on Fix: Logwrapper Issue when Installing Froyo for DROID X - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

this solved my issue of the update. i am still rooted and and everything works.

Hope this helps as it has been very frustrating to figure this out.

AWESOME. Thank you so much! I did this step by step and after the download and reboot, the install went through perfectly.

Is there any advantages/disadvantages/differences in going to stock home screens since the update. I am currently running launcher pro???

i don't know if this was happening as much before 2.2, but i have noticed today that as time goes on more and more apps just start running eating up memory. and i have to use Advanced Task Killer to free up some memory. i got to like 50 mb at one point.

and btw, my Quandrant score was 1418

Task killers don't work in Froyo. Kill off apps by hand from running services under Settings if you're bogged down.

Was rooted before. Update failed. Unrooted. Update failed. SBF'd (was never on leaked 2.2), viola! Froyo! Seems smooth so far, but have had it for about 3 minutes. Will report back

Ok found an issue. LP+ FB widget isn't updating after Froyo. Anybody else have this issue?

Edit: Nevermind. After about the 5th try it refreshed.

Running all official 2.2 now

Went from 2.1 to leaked 2.2 with root a while back. Just finished downgrading back t0 2.1 and getting the official update and then re-rooting.
All is well now.

Looks just like the leaked 2.2 to me though.

Was able to uninstall NFS Shift without being rooted. Now I just want to dump City ID, Verizon Nav and all of the other crap.

Unsecured Network

If you are having market issues try connecting to a public open network (I tried the coffee shop down the street). Go into the market and download a few apps, try downloading your paid apps. Once you have done this your 3G market should work much better and your reboot speed should be better. Also, the rep confirmed to me that there may be an issue with connecting to secure networks.
