Official Droid X Froyo update thread

I am having no problem at all watching video I took at 720p...i have 19 all together, everyone shot at 720p, and I don't have any lag or any difficulty playing them back...

What player do you use?

Stock won't playback your 720 vids without HDMI

Ok, I've been cautiously skeptic about this update. My X works...but not so well. I won't list em all, they've already been mentioned in others, but the machine is just simply not what it's supposed to be or was before the update. It's just sorta goofy now. I wasn't rooted either.
Some are not having a problem and that's great. I didn't at first either. I installed mine on the day of release. Mine was just so so. But today, I worked out listening to my tunes, went to work, gonna listen to them again and they wouldn't play. My Pandora wouldn't play. Youtubes won't play. It hangs on rotation. I don't even want to show off my lil black box of pride anymore until this is resolved, and it will be.
I feel assured tho, with this wide array of probs from batteries, to music players, to messages, to missing .com buttons, hangs, bricks, reboots, to just e-farts, that a fix will be right around the corner.
With the impending Big Red iPhone circling like a vulture, I wouldn't expect VZW to let this go too long.
This update to our sainted Androids is far far worse than antennagate. What's worse is the skepticism that will follow for future updates. The media will eat this up unless it's quickly corrected.

The current Froyo 2.2 is to our X as Windows ME was to our home pc:
:p

The Verizon president just said the other day that they won't have the iphone for a long time, probably even 2013.

Droid X failure since froyo update?

I checked my droid x this morning about 1 am est and at 8:30 am est it was dead with a black screen and no response to any button push.

This is the first failure of any kind since getting the droid x in august and since froyo update.

I pulled the battery and it reset with low battery its now charging and functional.

Has anyone else hand this type of failure, glitch, battery drain since the froyo update?

Could it be a battery failure?

Also I just noticed that the battery manager usage statistics fails : ( It seems the battery manager app is failing?

I had the black screen when doing the update and had to do a battery pull but nothing since.

I was also getting the battery manager failure last night, I did a battery pull and still got the failure, was to tired to mess around with it, battery was at 70%, I threw it on the charger and it was working this morning.

**well I am getting the battery manager failure again**

I don't know if it's been mentioned in this thread yet, but I can confirm that on 3 different droid X's that have gone through my hands since this update, noise cancelling is not working.

Can anyone else confirm this?...

Is there a reason that people are so reluctant to factory wipe? Between the SD card, gmail for calendar and contacts and AppBrain, why not do what's necessary to correct your problems with minimal inconvenience and loss of essentially no info?

Factory wipe for me (despite no problems on my phone) in ~10 minutes, and well worth the time invested.

Or, is it just easier to complain?

OH and since there will be a ton of people in this thread, i shall shamelessly ask, when the gallery is cued up from the camera app, WHY does it default to my OLDEST picture and not the ones i just took!?

I haven't updated yet, but my photo's are doing the same thing. Just noticed it last night. Also in Camera after I take a pic and it shows the thumbnail in bottom left corner it is now showing the oldest pic in my gallery as the thumbnail. Curious.
As a side note to this, it did not do this before last week. Last time I used the camera or the gallery (not a picture taker) it showed most recent photo in thumbnail.

Not to complain or argue but until the Droid X Froyo update I didn't have any problems that I am aware of.

If I reset will that fix the problem?

What configurations do I loose by doing a reset?

Will my wifi and bluetooth configurations be lost with reset?

I'm new I'm new I don't know what to do!

Great questions. It depends. Part of the problem is that we can't separate real bugs in 2.2 from devices that were rooted/rolled back, are still task-killed post 2.2 or who's settings pre-OTA have had negative consequences after the update.

I think there are some real (though minor) bugs in 2.2, but I have also seen devices that were having lag /stutter, call issues etc. resolve many if not all of their existing problems with a factory wipe. I hate to say it, but the VZ reps who are "quick to resort to a wipe" are doing the right thing.

Yes, you will lose all setting preferences, network/WiFi connections, bluetooth settings etc. The unit will be as-if you never owned it. As I said, if you're using gmail for calendar/contacts, AppBrain and have stored your photos etc. to SD card its a relatively simple matter to put the phone back to where you like it.

For those who can't even place a call any longer (or have suffered other disastrous results) it still needs to happen.

Not sure what the cure is but I turned off wifi, gps and bluetooth and charged the droid x to 100% and now the battery manager status is working.

I turned on wifi as I do not always get 3G here and the battery manager status is still working.

The droid x now seems quirky and intermittent since the froyo update. I hope the froyo task force is working on the bugs. I'm at their mercy at present ; )

So it seems its functioning for now. I'll keep it charged and see if overnight the black screen of death recurs : (

Has anyone managed to reinstall easy root after the official 2.2 upgrade?

Download this: silentmode onoff
Then add it to your home screen as a widget, then you can make it silent. I don't know why they f'ed this up on froyo.

SMH @ at someone on the Moto forums telling people to contact their attorney general cause of the problems people are having with their phones after froyo.

OK, searched here and didn't see anything like this. Since the update, missedcall(something something) keeps prompting for force stop or wait. When doing anything with the keyboard and trying to turn on the side for the bigger size keys, about 75% of the time it doesn't turn, I can continue to type. If it does turn it about after a minute. Phone has locked completely at least once a day since update, only solution to that is battery pull. When browsing using any browser it crashes after about 5 minutes. Tried uninstalling everything, and still same...

anyone else see this? The wife's phone is ok and no problems...

I didn't even know that there was an update until like 15 minutes ago. I was on facebook browsing the motorola page when someone asked about the update and someone else mentioned it was available

After spending practically the whole summer looking that I stopped searching for an upgrade almost 2 weeks ago.

downloading now :)

I've tried a factory wipe - I still have the same problems after about 6-7 hours of uptime the phone slows to a crawl and needs to be rebooted - then its fine for another few hours.

Seems like a nasty memory leak to me.

My phone still won't find the Froyo update at all. I get either, "update is not available at this time," or "checking for available updates" that goes on forever.

I've tried a hard reset, using WiFi, everything.

BUT... then again, after seeing all the problems here, I'm not sure I want to update.

Mine did that the first night I updated. I went to bed@ 90% or so battery life and it was absolutely 100% dead in the morning.

I have found a crazy new problem with the update. After experiencing every single issue listed here I tried a factory reset. After doing this several times and nothing changing I told myself I would do it one more time. This time upon completing the reset the phone instantly downloaded every app I have ever downloaded from the market including SlingPlayer, CBSNews, NY Times (all apps not available with FroYo). I went into my phone status menu and it said I had 2.2, even Flash was available (and had automatically updated). However, when I go to a site like HBO.com it tells me I do not have a device with Flash. Additionally Chrome to Phone does not work. I spoke to a VZW rep who told me the phone was fine and that this was normal. Anyone know of anything I can do? For ****s and giggles I reset again and had the same results.

Update?

I don't know how to get the update for my DX. I went to Settings/About Phone/System Updates and it just keeps checking for available updates. Below under Firmware Version it says 2.1-update1 but it's grayed out and wont let me select it. Am I doing something wrong?
