Official Froyo Update Instructions for Samsung Captivate - It's Here!

Dumb question, but do I have to remove the OCLF (One Click Lag Fix) to do this or can I leave my OCLF as is and update with no problems?

I'm just worried if I leave it with the Lag Fix, it might brick my phone or something?

Undo lag fix and then uninstall is what I did. You can reinstall OCLF 2.0 after you update and root. I think I saw a thread where someone kept it on their phone and it was bad news.

Only issue is i'm trying to remove it but it tell's me:

"You have only 606 MB free on RFS, but 680 MB used on EXT2.
You must free up some space"

I get it but the problem is, how do I free up space on RFS. What do I do
to access that lol? Sorry, super noob!

I run Linux (Linux Mint 10) and I tried it with Wine. It installs, but when I open up the program, it's just a white box. Guess I'll have to try it on my friends laptop tomorrow...

From within the OCLF app: First I did Remove EXT2 tools which takes a while because it removes the files put on my the OCLF. Then I clicked undo oneclick lag fix. Then uninstalled the app. Then I updated to 2.2

Hope this helps.

Mine has been running Froyo since the Odin version came out several months back and I have had no issues with it so I'm going to stay with their version of Froyo.

EDIT: I used either the Cognition v2.2 BETA 5.5 ODIN, I897UCJI6 OCD REV02 Low designgears, or I897UCJF6 final OCD REV0 I can't remember which one now.

I upgarded yesterday, and it went smoothly. I did not loose anything except for the shortcuts to my apps, which I had to re-do. The GPS is working well, but it was working fairly well even before the update (after a lot of adjustments etc.) I think that it is a little faster on getting a lock. I am still not sure about the random shutdown issue, but I am trying to run without the Captivate Keep Alive, and we'll see how it behaves.

I did a lot of preparation before the upgrade and that's why it went smoothly. I had the European version of Kies on my computer, and when I installed the Kies Mini it did not see my phone. So I unistalled everything, including Kies, Kies Mini and the Samsung drivers. Then I installed the drivers and then Kies Mini. Even then I had some problems with recognizing the phone. By trial and error I figured out that what works (at least on my computer - WinXP) is to first connect the phone, wait until the phone is recognized and shows up on the My Computer list, and only then launch Kies Mini.

I hope that this helps some of you

didn't search entire thread so sorry if this is posted somewhere...

update seemed to work fine, phone a little sluggish (especially in photo gallery) but works...EXCEPT. I just noticed that I can NOT get on the internet or Words with Friends...or anything to do with internet. It says I have no 3g or wireless. Wireless I never have at work but 3g should be there.

I can't find anything in my settings that would cause this. Anyone else?

ETA---just remembered it worked fine at 4am when I couldn't sleep but since Z4 wasn't working I uninstalled it...I just wonder if that did something. It was unrooted before I did the upgrade and wouldn't reroot so I'm not sure.

kinda getting mixed directions on as to what approach i need to take to do this upgrade. I dont use tether or voice dialer so those are not an issue to me, so would like to have this and just remove the bloatware using TiBU. I have Serendipity 5.0 right now. Can i run it over this rom (after disabling lagfix, of course) or do i need to odin it first?

I am now at this point as well. Have had the black screen with the occasional vibrate for one hour now. So I have to wipe all my data just to upgrade? Sheesh. This just keeps getting better and better.

I was not all thrilled about having to do it. I have a few theories as to why all user data had to be deleted. I also had to format the sd card due to having installed the app lag click that changed the app storage space. Just a theory.

i have a 64bit win7 vaio
and i had NO problems upgrading
with KIES mini
process took about 30 min
also, my phone was rooted
but no custom ROM installed

Was able to download Froyo in about 10 minutes using XP SP3 32 bit. Entire process took about 30 minutes. My Captivate is stock.

According to the instructions on the Samsung page 32 bit is required as is disabling firewall/anti virus. Although several have posted they successfully downloaded using Windows 7 64 bit.

I am amazed thus far there has been no notification from AT&T that Froyo is now available. Had it not been for this forum I would have no clue it was.

Wonder if we'll see Gingerbread, I'm thinking we won't because of the new Galaxy 2.

Got mine yesterday.

After downloading Kies Mini and updating it, it failed to read my phone. Even with USB Debugging turned on.

So I disconnected my phone, downloaded the USB drivers from Samsung @ here

It said drivers exist already (from Kies Mini install)...I over-wrote them anyway.

Then I connected the phone as a USB drive to make sure my machine recognizes the phone's drives. (I didn't do this after installing Kies mini).

I disc...set to USB Debugging, and reconnected...and it worked from then on.

Took a long time. Phone was stuck at the Samsung S screen for about 20 minutes before it booted up. No kidding.
I just left it plugged in.

After it's done, phone was acting weird...random vibrates here and there, failed to recognize my screen lock.
So I did a battery pull.

It's running fine since then.

Looks like everyone has their own ways of getting it working...eventually.

NOTE: I did mine on Windows 7 x64.

Done!

After trying to upgrade on my Win7 x64 laptop, I had to give up and use my wife's old WinXp Pro laptop. Success. Everything went perfectly on the old machine. I am now on 2.2 and all seems well. It appears that I did not lose anything in the process. Dare we ask for 2.3?

Not sure about your 3G, but you might want to check the wi-fi ip setting to make sure that the "use static ip address" toggle is OFF. >wireless and network/Wi-Fi settings, then use the settings soft key below the name Samsung to bring up "Advanced." This will bring up more wi-fi options, incl the one for static ip. Make sure it is not on. This method of getting to these advanced settings is different that in 2.1, but they have given us more options to work with.

Let Kies update to the current ver. "SAMSUNG Kies mini Application v1.0.0.11014_6". The Froyo update works fine, updated my phone and my wifes phone with no problems...

Captivate
Froyo 2.2
