[Official] Gingerbread Update - Bugs, New Apps, etc.

if you want your unpaid apps to reinstall after the update you have to make sure the phone is setup to backup your data to google.

go to settings and hit the search button and search for privacy, click the only entry and check the box for backing up your data.

I am able to find this "Privacy" option when searching for it like you said... But I cannot find it anywhere in the actual setting menu. Is the only way to locate it by searching? This seems odd.

Edit:
Other Items that show up in a search, that I cannot locate in the settings menu:
Pen - Just takes you to the settings main menu.
Power Saver - Has settings for items to be turned off when phone hits 15% power.

yeah, I was wondering what happened to it as well, especially after hearing other phones still had the option visible. Would have saved me some time during my last couple wipes :/

I happened across the answer from the front page of this site in an article about migrating from the evo to the evo 3d :/ the article writer wasn't even aware the option was now missing, someone in comments posted the method to get to it though.

Seems like htc removed it from the list for some reason...no idea why, this was supposed to be a semi big feature a while back.

I must be missing something as others can find it. When I go to settings and hit the search button, it pulls up 3 options: Google search, searchable items, and clear shortcuts. I don't see anything about privacy.

Menu -> Settings -> Search -> Searchable Items -> "Settings" must be checked in order for you to find the hidden "Privacy" with a search.

also the camera freezes then reboots when trying to take a picture, not rooted or anything, straight htc upgrade. kinda sucks that i cant take pictures

I have weird charging issues.

If I plug it up overnight and leave it off, the amber light goes off, and the phone will not boot unless I pull the battery.

Has anyone else noticed Bluetooth headset battery issues since going to GB?
I have a Jawbone "Hero" headset that I use(d) every day. It seems like after updating my Evo the headset battery only lasts about 1/2 a day with normal usage, no streaming music, etc. I figured the battery in the headset was getting old so I picked up a Jawbone "era" headset as a replacement. It started giving me "about 15 minutes remaining" about 3/4s of the way through the day. I have never run into this pre gingerbread update.

Car Dock Mode

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet but car mode finally got landscape orientation.

I have seen a huge increase in response. Much faster. Have not had any issues, except for the Alarms got that reset. (Now wonder I overslept)

2:16:46 PM : Lawrence C: I have checked and found that Sprint/htc working on a maintenance update for the most recent upgrade and this is a known issue. We have come to know that app does not funcation after updating. Our technicians are engaged and working diligently to fix the issue ASAP, however, there is no time frame. Hopefully it will be fixed shortly.

Just got that response from sprints web chat support concerning the htc sense loading issue some of us are getting (white screen with htc sense logo then loading screen after leaving an app)

Hopefully the guy wasn't just blowing smoke up my you know what. Took him forever to get a response, so I'm hopeful the info rings true.

new email icon in notification tray is a different design.

Sorry if this has already been posted - I wasn't going to wade through 54 pages.

... few additional minor problems i noticed... When downloading anything from the web, if you do not use the stock internet browser, it will NOT show up in the new downloads shortcut, i tried man times and it simply does not work....

... also when typing a message say for SMS, prior update i could press and hold the text box, and select quick text, now this no longer works it brings up the "fancy new" system and requires a few extra steps ..

that is all

This is a big deal for me too. I listen to about 4 hours of podcasts daily on my bluetooth headsets. When I used wired headsets the wire was constantly getting caught on something and flinging the phone.

Can anyone else confirm that bluetooth cuts out after a minute or so?

I listen to Audible books on the drive to work. The headset disconnects and reconnects randomly, rough;y about every 60 seconds. I can keep the audio working, by turning off the "pause when disconnected" option in Audible. So the headset is actually still connected, but the phone THINKS it's not connected.

I also had to reboot a phone to get the BT to connect to be able to make a call. And the audible had been playing perfectly over BT when I tried. The car just said no Bluetooth phones were connected, then disconnected even the audible stream.

I am getting the same think as well. I use my BT headset to listen to music at work. For me Ibm getting disconnected after about 15 mins of use. Have not used any BT up to this point since the GB update...

Gingerbread slows EVO function

After the Gingerbread update, I continually get the HTC splash screen and then "LOADING"...all the time! Is there some way to fix this, or return to 2.2?

This is not exactly true, it is solely dependant upon available stock Assurion has of any given phone. I actually had to replace my Evo two weeks ago and got a brand new one. You can check whether or not you got a New or Refurbished phone by opening the dialer and typing ##786# then scrolling down.
Yea, isn't that what I said? Basically, you may or may not get a newer phone. There is no guarantee you will. Sorry if my answer was confusing.

that's the best answer so far that i've gotten, direct from sprint support.

Most irritating bug for me:
When you highlight a word that Swype incorrectly typed, it is often difficult to see the word choice dialog box because the default copy/paste dialog box covers it. I would much rather have no window come up when a word is highlighted, then you could hit the Swype button for a word choice selection or tap and hold the highlighted area to copy/paste. The magnification window is a welcome addition though.

Other than that, it's little bugs that others have mentioned. This update isn't bad, but it has me seriously thinking about rooting. I am bummed about ShootMe not working since I had just installed it prior to the GB update.

don't double tap the word, just tap it once so the curser is on the word, then hit the swype key. half arsed work around but it will do for now!
