[Official] Gingerbread Update - Bugs, New Apps, etc.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before or not but since the GB update "Weather Bug Elite" does not properly display weather advisories. You can go to the page but when you click to expand the advisory you can only see two lines which cannot be scrolled or anything.

I've been experiencing an issue with auto complete. If I'm typing a word like "experience" and I type out "experi" the auto complete has the correct word selected. If I hit space, however, "experiences" gets inserted. This only happens with plurals. Anyone else?

I'm not a Evo 4G owner but a Nexus S 4G owner. Are you guys experiencing the same signal/radio issues as the Nexus S after the Gingerbread update; spotty 3G/4G and wifi connectivity? Just seeing if Gingerbread is the culprit as the review I read on Phonescoop on the Evo 3D, they had connectivity issues as well with 3G/4G.

Awesome! Found a Voice Search fix that seem to have worked for me to resolve the issue when trying to use with lots of background noise.

Thanks to this post here:
EVO VOICE SEARCH FIX!!! - Pocketables Forum

Just press menu, settings, applications, manage apps, all apps, voice search, click on it, select "clear data"

To test, I turned up my radio in the office then used it it to send a text to my wife. Worked! Great improvement. I will report back after my commute home in my car with the road noise and radio on.

I am now a very happy Evo with Gingerbread user. Phone is much faster and battery life is slightly better. All my other issues were solved by doing a reset "back to default"

My last remaining issue is getting a temp root program that will work on Gingerbread.

Unfortunately this fix did not help Voice Search in the car for me. if you have too much background noise, it still has issues. Desperately waiting for Google / HTC or Sprint to come up with an update to fix.

I got a quick update on the Ghost Voicemail issue. According to Tech Support this is a known issue that is set to be fixed alongside other issues with their next Maintenance Release. As GB just came out not to long ago for the EVO there is no ETA for when this will be pushed OTA as they are trying to get a complete list of what needs to be fixed so they can do just one update instead of multiples. He said a Hard Reset should fix it, but in his opinion it's not worth it for something small like this to which I agree. It's not causing the phone not to work, just a minor irritation that keeps coming back.

Vgamer4550, I might know what is causeing the problem. Try this and see if this helps. Put the phone on the charger and see if that helps it not stop. Secoundly you can turn your screen to never turn off. The lock screen might be needing to be refreshed but the issue is that you will have to do a factory reset in order to correct your issue. If you want backup you user data and then do a factory reset install or use you media player for you podcasts and see if that fixed it. If not restore your backup and there would be a problem I do not know of as of yet to why your streaming stops

Thanks for the suggestions but my phone is almost always charging when this happens. I listen in the car quite a bit and keep it on the charge there whenever I do, because my battery is not the greatest, altho its better now after the update.

I have also tried turning off the lock screen, and outside of sucking the life out of my battery because the screen is always on I got the same results.

Lastly, I did a factory reset after I initially flashed over to Gingerbread, the stopping issue only started after Gingerbread got put on my phone.

Thanks for the thoughts tho, any others out there =)

The one big issue ive had with the GB update is my google voice to text feature... when you click the microphone and try to speak sometimes it takes a few tries now to get it going.... and when texting, if i try to speak my text it hardly works.... any ideas

I still haven't received this update, considering all of the issues posted, can this update be postponed once i get the notice?

I do hope this "maintenance update" Sprint say they are working on is a good fix and not another headache. Smf.

Same here. I found I need to be in a quiet setting in on a first work

I havent found much information about a reboot issue in the forums. I downloaded the gingerbread update to a friends phone and did the install only to have it do a continuous reboot. I advised him to take it back to Sprint. I did some research but only found those with the problem and no real solutions. Most who posted had to take their phones back as well. Anyone know why this happened? App conflict or damaged stock rom?

I updated my EVO and did not have any problems, not even the ones mentioned in this forum.

Yes I have thus same problem but have not found a solution for it yet.

I downloaded Gingerbread yesterday on my EVO and it went flawless, although it took about an hour and a half over 3G. Noticed some of the issues already mentioned ... however, overall, I'm pleased with the update.

So we get an update on monday, but from the sounds of it they're leaving the biggest bug of all in there. perhaps as a feature? No fix for sense constantly reloading in the release notes!

My Mail Widget doesn't update a few times a day, showing I have new emails, but really I have none. I have to re-add the widget for the mail count on the icon to update. My email is updating properly through the Exchange Server at my place of work.

It's caught me off guard a few times.

Yes... there will be an option or two to accept it (like over 4G or wifi) or to simply cancel.

Major Bugs

(Sorry, wasn't able to read through the entire thread to see if these issues were mentioned.)

So far I've noticed these issues:

  • All my contacts that I linked to Facebook or Google are completely gone. (I've tried going into the settings and manually pressing sync and nothing happens.)
  • My Gmail won't sync at all.
  • Many apps that I know I still have aren't showing up in my folders with their own icons, it uses the default app icon.
For my contacts - is there any chance they will be saved? How can google send out a release and completely delete my whole life without notice?! Isn't there a backup on the Sprint server somewhere that keeps these files?

login to your gmail account using a computer and click contacts on the left hand side. your contacts should be in there (assuming you synced them to google, which everyone should do!) if they did get deleted on there you can restore them still.

on the phone you can try going into setting>apps>manage>all>contacts storage>clear data and sync should resync them.

not the above might be a bad idea if you DID NOT sync them with google previously.

also make sure you didn't back them up already to the sd card by seeing if you can restore them in the people app.

under contacts storage though it says it controls all sd card contents and sms messages. would this mean all of those will be deleted too, like sms history and other apps on my sd card?
