Nobody is getting a new update. All anyone is getting is a false notification. There is no update, period. If there was a real update, it would show up as an OTA as well.

So, is this newly released source meaningful to help resolve any outstanding issues with the CM7 development? or meaningless?!

Not really. The only useful thing we got was the 2.6.35 kernel, which isn't really that useful until the binary update is released.
While LG did release their Android-specific source changes, anything that may aid CM7 development is locked away in a box called closed-source software.
Also, the kernel release seems to solve some small issues but also introduces some gnarly bugs. This is probably due to still having to use Froyo proprietary system files rather than the yet unreleased Gingerbread ones.
Actually I am running Reborn not CM7, I stopped running CM7 when my battery life was horrid and my phone was locking up constantly. Anyways I haven't tried it either with my phone, I didn't wanna have it brick my phone if I tried to do the update because i'm not sure just what it wants to update.
Question is, are we good to do this if we are rooted with gingerbreak? Thanks everyone!
Hopefully it won't take long for the Devs here to make us a cooked version. Don't think i want to unroot and go back to stock.
I'm not a dev, but I always follow the Android Central motto of "Don't upgrade UNTIL the devs have a working root!" They'll give the green light when it's good to go.
If you want the official gingerbread, you will need to lose your custom recovery and root.

If you have not already updated DON'T. We are working on a rooting method at the moment, so again DO NOT UPDATE until this is complete.
I'll be a tester for you. I have a new phone so this one I don't have to worry about root until we can get it working. I should be able to get a system dump without root though, right? At least I think I have before. We'll see.

Is this update OTA only right now? I just tried the LG Updater Tool and it said I was up to date with ZVD. Hmm....Maybe because I am on CM7, lol. Going to flash a 2.2 rom and check again.
I don't have a refurb phone. Unfortuneately I cannot use Google Talk at work. I'll try inviting you to a huddle on Google+
