Official "I got my Infinity" Thread

I'm curious about the skin Asus uses on the TF700T? Did they do a good job, should I root it right away and get rid of their crapware?
I'm tired of TouchWiz on my Galaxy S 2 and just want pure google. I was on the fence about getting a Nexus 7 vs the Infinity, mainly because I wanted Jelly Bean and timely updates. I hear that Asus does a decent job with updates and their skins are not bad, but I've never used one of their devices before. In the end I went with the Infinity for the larger storage, micro SD slot, keyboard dock and high rez screen. I'm hoping I made the right choice.

Bev... Yes, much like you, I prefer to root and take control as soon as possible. Although the Asus interface is nice and ICS is ICS, which I have had experience with on my Galaxy Nexus, I still prefer Control and Jelly Bean over stock.

As far as the crapware (as you called it..lol), I'm still fumbling through some of them, but some are new and functional and to be honest, them seem very minimal.

Hope that answer your questions....

That's great news! I searched some other posts and found similar comments. I've never used an Asus product before, except video cards, so to hear that they allow you to remove their crapware/bloatware is just amazing! However, if some of their pre-installed apps are actually useful, then all the better.

I just hate cell phone companies adding their useless software, in the name of consumer convenience, that you can't remove without rooting the device. My original Galaxy S had some special version of the Sims on it. Never played it...ok, I loaded it once. You know, just to see, anyway it took up to 80 megs of space and I couldn't remove it. No, I don't want TeleNav or T-Mobile TV or any of your suggested apps. You are not helping me, you're just annoying me...

Man, where did that come from? Rant over, the end.

My Infinity is out for delivery! Should be arriving at my work any moment now! Productivity is about to take a huge blow.

UPS delivered my Infinity at work during my lunch break. Best lunch break ever! All I can say is WOW! Wowwy, wow, wow, wow! This thing is amazing. The screen is gorgeous! Got it all set up and there was a firmware update right away, my heart skipped a beat hoping for Jelly Bean, but it was just an update from Asus. Running 4.0.3. Battery is almost dead at this point, arrived with about 15% power, gonna run it dry and then charge it overnight when I get home.

Woohoo! Adorama took the status off of backorder and it's now being shipped! Should be here on the 23rd (ordered on 15th). :-D
Happy camper here, wife will be too :-D

Yeah, there were a few camera fixes and such that they sent out. Some small stuff, they'll be fixing the I/O issues before we get Jelly Bean most likely. I expect another update in the next two weeks.

Been playing with my new toy for a few hours. Love it! The screen is everything I hoped and more. Most of your reaction to this tablet will depend on what you've been using before. Going from a TF101 to this is a huge step up. Speed is blazing, screen is sharp, and the size and shape is perfect.

I also picked up the Prime keyboard dock from Best Buy and am pretty impressed with the whole set up. Typing isn't as cramped as I thought it would be and there is no lag between typing and when text shows up on the screen which is something I experienced with the TF101 keyboard dock.

All in all I will enjoy figuring this bad boy out over the next few weeks and can't wait to take it outside to test the IPS+ display in sunlight.

Do you guys recommend factory resetting this right when you get it? I've heard that's a good thign to do. Is it really? Why?

I've read reports of the gorilla glass screen not being properly mounted on some units. Causing noticeable banding to occur when the screen is touched "too hard" and edges to be a bit more pronounced.

Is anyone here running into this issue?

Curious to see how many units it happened to, if it happened to the entire line, or is just the usual case of some small percentage of the production had issues.

I don't see any problems with the way my screen was mounted. No exposed corners or edges popping up. The tablet has a very thin black plastic "band" around the entire edge of the screen. The "band' separates the gorilla glass from the metal frame and I've seen this on iPhones and other tablets. This "band" extends up about 1mm (I'm just eyeballing this) from the metal frame of the TF700T. People might be confusing this as the separation you're talking about, but this could also be confusion with the Nexus 7, which Asus also manufactures, which first reported having this problem.

You really have to push hard on the screen in order to cause some sort of screen distortion. This is something that would happen with just about any tablet. Why anyone would push that hard on a touch screen as sensitive as the TF700T is beyond me. Don't do it, with any touch screen you own. Besides, the gorilla glass 2 will protect it just fine.

Got mine yesterday. So far so good. Keyboard is on backorder though. Got it from Amazon and had it two days later (7/19/12). Coolest part is that with ICS can use Chrome app. It's great.

huh? that was page 2? did you mean to post a link?

Ha! So I've learned something new! I was using the Android Central App which shows that were now on Page 6 already, even though on the actual site we've only reached Page 3 so far.

So what I meant was Page 1 of this thread, post 15, here's the link:

I use the AC app a lot now, only use the website when I'm on pc.
I really recommend the app too.
:-D cheers.

The tf700 infinity 32gb arrived yesterday afternoon and I have been tweaking it since, the display is top notch...I had some minor banding but this has cleared up after some use, nice android device.

I got mine in the mail today! Whoooo. The I/O issue isn't quite as predominant as I thought it would be...I just have to be careful of what I'm doing. It's a beast though, I love it.

Wooooo!

Finally got my shipping notice from TigerDirect through Amazon. Says should be here by Tuesday at the latest, psyched!

I got my 64GB TF700 a couple days ago and have not been able to put it down. I am coming from a TF101 that I love as well and the TF700 puts it to shame. Looks nicer, screen and overall, nice and fast and simply awesome!
