Official - I Received the ICS OTA Update!! Thread

As I understand it, the ota does not wipe the Dalvik cache, which is something they recommend in ROM flashing 101. So there may be a correlation between how long you've had your phone and how smoothly the update goes. This also explains why a factory reset clears up lots of the problems, since the factory reset wipes the Dalvik cache.

I have not seen any update. I live in MD, near Washington, DC. I called Sprint, and they said they can't push, and their stores don't have the update, but gave me the number for Samsung. Samsung said it's automatic with Sprint, at about 20,000 users per day (how many E4GTs are out there total?). They said we have to wait until the end of the month.

I find it frustrating, since I'd rather buy a different phone on Verizon anyway. I liked my EVO 4G much better, and with the LTE updates, I've been roaming a lot lately (on Verizon) when I should be native Sprint. E4GT generally has poorer signal and data than EVO, too.

Yes update pulled due to complaints about 4G, wifi and some other bull

thats weird because they are still selling new epic 4gs with 4.0 ice cream sandwich as a selling tool. ummmm something is amiss here. lol

I still have no update. Miami, FL. The only thing I want from ICS is Chrome and new notifications. My phone runs perfectly though right now so I'm in no rush.

when I updated to ICS, I lost the LED indicator notifications; as the LED does not light up AT ALL... only when on a charger.. No LED for messages, emails, etc...

wishing for a better update soon!

I have had the ics update footer about 2 weeks now in the Nashville, 5
TN area.

To be entirely honest, I'm not to happy with the ics update for sprint. Here are a couple things i just cannot stand...

1. It had really slowed my phone down. Not sure why, but internet, anything that requires typing hangs a lot!

2. Why does the wallpaper cropping give me a landscape crop box? I mean, the phone sets up in portrait NOT landscape.

3. We still do not have an editable notification bar, i have tried the apps (super status bar, status bar +) and both either force quit, encounter errors that shut them down, or don't always show over the default even when everything in the program says it should.

If anyone knows how to go back to GB without rooting, i would love to know how.

That's it so far, if anyone had any suggestions on any of these issues, I'm listening...

My only noticeable problems are the battery issue and auto brightness no longer works. It just stays at whatever brightness I had before I checked it off. The browser I can set it's own brightness, but when I set that to auto it defaults back to the setting established in the Display menu.

I finally got ics yesterday in Jersey and dome of its good I am just going to try it out for a while before I give my opinion.

It is funny hearing all these complaints/problems. So many people were trying to do whatever they could to get this early ...they just couldn't wait!

I have experienced reduced battery life and signal (at least it shows less signal).

Received mine weeks ago but was still eating for the ota on my wife's phone. Last night I cleared the cache on the google services framework then pulled her battery and checked for update and it was there! I like the update

I received the update a few days ago, and after some messing around, I have gotten battery life to be stellar on standby, but it's still almost unusable otherwise.

Leaving my phone unplugged overnight, total battery loss was 10%. Using Dolphin HD to do some web browsing this morning, I lost 35% of my battery in 22 minutes, which seems to be par for the course now.

Any "active" use of the phone drains at a rate of at least 1% a minute if not worse. Screen brightness is at like 15%, WIFI, GPS, BT, etc are all disabled.

I hate that we have to go to such lengths to alter the way we use our phones, or worse, alter the capabilities of our phone and NOT use some features that make smart phones smart, such as WiFi, GPS, BT, etc.. all just to be able to USE the phone w/o it draining the battery..

I updated to the original ICS when the update came out a month or so ago, but have since gone back to Gingerbread.. now I keep getting the update notifications for ICS 4.0.4 - which I will NOT be making the mistake and updating again.. I'm sticking with GB, even if that means I have to keep hitting the "remind me later" button to dismiss the ICS notification.
