[OFFICIAL] p3droid has done it again. rooted gingerbread update inside

Hey guys, so I'm doing this:
Official DX Gingerbread 2.3.3 (4.5.596) Release Thread - Something for everyone
Trying to use method #2.

I just SBF back to stock. It says the next steps are:
1. Your phone must be in the following condition before you can use the patched updater.

1.Your phone is running the 2.3.340 official Froyo Firmware
2.Your phone has been rooted
3.Your phone is using the Droid2 Bootstrap program (Do Not Use DroidX Bootstrap)

Does this mean that now I have to root my phone? It was rooted before I did the SBF back to flash, but since I did that, does that mean my phone is no longer rooted?

your phone is no longer rooted is right. When u sbf you lose root.

Many thanks once again to jkjedi. I have been running rooted 596 official all day, smooth as silk. Love it.
(and of course, all due credit to p3droid for the hard work and clear instructions)

I'm currently rooted on stock Froyo and want to do the two step update using the D2 bootstrapper. If I do that, will I lose everything? I've frozen alot of the bloatware with Ti Backup. Would I need to unfreeze it first?

I went ahead and went for it. I unfroze bloatware and installed the two zip files. I did not lose apps or settings other than I did have to login to the Amazon Appstore. Seems pretty slick so far other than I am not sure about the GB keyboard.

OK, finally got this to work! Now I have gingerbread!

So, we have to wait for someone to make some ROMs, right?

ok i had to do the droid2 bootstrap to install method 2 two files. (you can do regular restore with method 3- non root signed version) Went over without a hitch. Only problem- i had to uninstall and reinstall Angry Birds Rio from Amazon App store. this reset all my levels, guess i will have fun getting all the awards again ^_^ Haven't noticed any other problems yet.

Method One
Method Two
The second method to upgrade to gingerbread from froyo is to sbf you phone back to stock froyo (2.3.340) and use the 2 install files from below.

.

Is there a method for those of us that are rooted, but don't have a Gingerbread leak? I would like to do method 3, but I don't have a gingerbread leak.

Should I install a leak and THEN do method 3? Will the phone stay rooted that way?

edit: I guess I have to SBF back to stock and do #2

Use method 2 without SBF- if you are Froyo root. No need to SBF if still have stock root Froyo. Do method 2 and retain root.
If you already SBF'd then reroot with Z4root prior to method 2. You cannot do method 2 unless you are rooted i believe. have to use bootstrap as opposed to phone's stock restore. If you do phone stock restore only method would be to use the update.zip file- gives you non rooted GB

Totally stock and did the update.zip and it worked perfectly. All Gingerbread now. Seems a little faster on page changes and such. Had to reinstall Go launcher Ex. Thanks OP

Just updated and now my Barnacle Wifi Tether doesn't seem to work. Anyone know how to fix this?

Yup, I did #2. Just re-rooted with Z4root before doing #2 though.

I'm glad somebody finally made this clear for the n00bs out there like me....

I have stock froyo rooted with z4 root and have been preparing to do method 2, but I could not find a definitive answer as to if it would be rooted when I was done. (I was still working on reading the 51 pages worth of posts at mydroidworld.com)

Wow this thread sure has grown. Glad to see everyone enjoying the new leaks and GB and all the goodies that comes with a device that kicks a s s stock. Oh and yea DONT WIRELESS TETHER!

Couldn't get my nook color to link up to my wireless tether- kept saying obtaining IP address. Wouldn't lock in and run. Maybe my settings were off, or maybe broke for now.

I had the same scenario with my wife's nook. After that anytime I tried to go anywhere in my phone browser it would pull up a Verizon page with subscription information for hotpot options. I finally rebooted the phone to get it to stop.

if u didn't know vzw is blocking tethering. if you font pay you will get caught and I would hate to see a 2500$ data bill
