This will be the thread to discuss what to do next. Comply, or get locked! ;)
I'm creating this in an attempt to eliminate a bunch of threads on the same topic and as a way to pool all information in one nice to read thread :)

The first basic things you'll need to do are:
1. Flash a custom recovery if its not included in revolutionary. (Via PC36IMG or rom manager)
2. Make a nandroid back up from the custom recovery.

All further questions shall be posted here, as i know 1&2 are just the start of things. Myself and knowledgeable members will be happy to help! (I hope ;) )

Thanks, and enjoy your newly acquired root for the OG Evo!!!

any links to rom managers or how to's

How about a good kernel to use that's not confusing. I also have problems with hdmi win for my tv.

ok so I am trying to install CM7 from rom manager. on the CM7 website it says I need to do a wipe. what does that mean and how do I do it? I already did a recovery and saved it to my computer

When installing a different rom you always have to wipe. Wiping is data, cache, and Dalvik cache (for those with revolutionary/clockwork Dalvik is under advance). Always make sure you make a nandroid (backup) before you wipe and flash. This way you have something to go back to just in case you don't like the rom or something happens. Example bootloops

Try one of netarchys kernels, or if youre on AOSP try tiamat or savaged zen

Thank you. I applied it and in the hardware information it still shows b/g but I'll take it to work tomorrow and set one of the wireless radios to n-only.

This is my first time rooting and I'm loving it. Flashed a nice Sense 3.0 custom rom (loving it) and I am most happy with the ability to move what seems like any app to SD (No more low space restrictions).

My question now is, what other great features can I take part in now that I'm rooted?

Kernels: To help with battery life and to overclock your phone.

AOSP roms: These are non sense roms that give you a different feel to the phone.

Root-only apps: So many to choose from - Titanium Backup, Ad Free (removes ads from apps), Set Cpu (overclocking app), Root manager (file explorer app for rooted only), Shoot Me (Screen shot app for rooted phones only)

Wireless tether: Tethering (using your phone) for free!

So much you can do w/a rooted phone. :D

Put the. zip file on your SD card and wipe cache and dalvik
You can check out my link for a visual aid. I have times so you don't have to guess when each piece starts :)

I finally got around to setting my radios to 802.11n only and tried connecting with them set to 20MHz and Auto 20/40MHz and neither worked... so I tried installing the driver following the manual instructions and still no success. Tried the update zip again, still no success. I guess it is what it is....

I been looking for you. You got lost in all the post. Give this a shot if you want. It's the stock kernel with wireless N built in.
