Ok Pixel owners - the S8 is here. Who's jumping ship?

After owning a Galaxy S2,Note 3,S4,S5, and S7 Edge, you couldn't pay me to buy another Samsung. Everything was acceptable until they took away the removable battery. The removable batteries more than made up for their updates taking forever. So from here on out, I am only buying iPhones and Google Pixels.

I've had the s8 for a week. I have TMobile JOD so I swapped my S7 for it. It's gorgeous of course. The hardware is best in the biz right now. But..., Same as the S7, when it wakes from sleep the lag is super annoying. And my favorite feature, double tap to swap apps does not switch consistently and of course lags. Don't get me wrong, the phone is fast, just not pixel fast. There's also weird things like widgets losing catched data, (pocketcasts widget no longer has currently playing podcast showing), or random huge loss of battery. Also, another weird thing is when I use Android auto, the media button doesn't show pocketcasts as an available app. Let's just say, I'm typing this on my pixel and the wife is a happy owner of a new phone and wireless charger. I may swap my sim when bixby gets full release to check it out. Right now it's hot garbage. The ******* button doesn't do **** like 50% of the time.

My two cents.

I did but I'm going back. The S8+ is a little big, but the bigger issue is the pink tinge on the edges of my screen and the yellow staining. I also randomly get huge lag issues, like the Samsung browser freezing up completely. Just not sold on it.

The bad part of that is, everytime they've rolled out a new network, first analog to digital, digital to 3G, 3G to 4G LTE, and now 4G LTE to 5G, the reach of the signal from the towers decreases. Analog had a range of around 40 miles, 3G got around 15-20 miles, and 4G LTE gets around 5-15 miles. That's according to a Verizon engineer when I asked why my signal level at my house has dropped since I first got service with them. Most people in a city don't notice it because of the saturation of towers, but in a rural area, it becomes apparent pretty quickly.

If Verizon doesn't start adding towers, their map is going to have a lot of holes in it. To be fair, the current map doesn't show the actual signal footprint, only where they CAN offer service (again per a Verizon engineer) which is what Verizon ridiculed Sprint for on their map disclaimer (the ad with Ricky Gervais).

I have both phones. I own the Pixel XL and have the S8+ on JOD with T-Mobile. The advantage goes to Pixel for smoothness, always available Ok Google, and updates but that's where it stops for me. I use both on a consistent basis. I have a duplicate sim card in the Pixel with the same apps, phone number, service as the S8+ so that helps with my ability to truly compare them side by side.

After using the S8+ for a week it's hard to actually enjoy using the Pixel. The screen and size of the S8+ is just awesome. Picking up the Pixel makes me feel like I'm using a two year old phone. The Pixel feels fat and just not as enjoyable to use. For me having the screen real estate of the S8+ is a huge factor in my decision. It makes using things like multi window actually make sense. So despite the fact that the Pixel might be slightly faster and have less stutters I reach for the S8+ more. And it's definitely not because it's new. Prior to this I had an S7 Edge which had a good amount of lag but I always preferred using that phone because it was just more fun and better to look at. Everything that I needed to work just worked on my Samsung phones. Maybe there are some slow downs (not experiencing that with my S8+), maybe I don't have the latest Software but I'm willing to make those trade offs for better hardware.

Also Samsung Pay is hands down one of my favorite features and seriously underrated. It's awesome walking into a store with just my phone and keys. I use it every chance I get.

There are also things about the Pixel that make it frustrating to use as a phone for calls which is where most of my usage goes. Why is it that I can't have two Bluetooth devices connected simultaneously? This makes for switching between my car speakers and headphones frustrating for no reason.

Also, I love wireless charging, Iris scanning and the option of face recognition. Can't get that with the Pixel.

I'm fortunate to be able to use both phones and luckily don't have to choose. But if I did it would be the S8+ for sure. Pixel is still a great phone though.

Seems like Samsung needs to fix the stutters and the fingerprint sensor and Google, to enlarge the screen and then we'd have two perfect phones.

I have the S8 and it's going back. I have the red tint issue on the screen and I can't stand it. Apparently all the preorder and early order phones have it. I've been though the Note7 and now this. Anyway, I have a G6 coming tomorrow, but damn if today I wasn't looking at the Pixel XL and seriously thinking about not even turning on the G6 and selling it to get the Pixel.

I've been burned WAY too many times by Samsung. Once the S9 or whatever comes out you will be nothing to them. I know I won't be top Priority when the Pixel 2 comes but at least I know I'll get updates in a reasonable time.

That's why the S7 Edge will be my last Samsung phone.

Well, that finally explains something I've struggled with the past year or so, I went with verizon because it was the only service with signal at my house (rural area), now it seems like I'm always on 1x or low-bar 3g . . . I guess this could be the reason

The S8 just feels cheap to me. The size is nice, but I'm done with these curved phones. The mots's we're good at it, the note 7 was done right. But the s7 edge and now this S8, not for me. I'll wait for the next Pixel.

Just held one for the first time. I like the design but not enough to ditch my Pixel. The screen is very nice though.

What feels cheap about it to you?

I gave my pixel XL to my dad and jumped to the s8+. Well actually i knew i was going to get the s8+, so jumped to the LG V20 as an intermediary phone, before jumping to the s8+. So now best of both worlds, i love the s8+, and love seeing my dad loving his pixel XL!

The curves in the screen make me feel like this phone is just to fragile. The curves to me are just a aesthetics. I don't mean the quality of materials are cheap, just the design makes it feel cheap. I don't like the curves cause they reflect light, the screen along the edge feels like it sunken in, and not part of the glass. I had the S7 edge, wasn't impressed by the design. The design is something that just looks cool to some, but doesn't really have a purpose. If the pixel goes the same route with these dramatic curves, I'll keep looking.

I came from a s8. Couldn't it was too hard to hold with it being so narrow and curved edges. I tried LG and it felt like a stock Droid without the benefits of direct updates and control. I quite like my pixel XL.

The LG G6 looks like a better phone than the S8 to me.

The flawed unlocking system on the Galaxy is a deal breaker. You have to unlock your phone hundreds of times a day.

Flawed unlocking system ?
