OMG my camera lens is shattered!

With all the phones I have had over the years I 've never had this happen to me but my rear camera lens is shattered! I have no idea how it happened as I have had it in a case since I took it out of the box. I have only taken 3 pictures with it previously as I haven't had a whole lot of time to even mess with it and I went to take a picture this evening and the color seemed a little washed out so I thought there might be plastic over the lens and thats when I noticed it. It is not just cracked but shattered like a windshield would do. I am sick, the only thing I can do is pay the insurance and get it replaced or maybe go to my TMobile store and see if they can help. Can a camera lens be replaced? Maybe I should have stayed with Samsung......:'( Any suggestions?

Well my phone was in my pocket with nothing else,as u can see in a VRS kickstand case, and well the picture speaks for itself!! Nothing was in my jacket pocket but my phone..nothing sharp and not dropped or hit against anything..never had physical phone issues before and I'm not sure what to do next as I sit here in shock still

Here is a 22 page thread on the Samsung website with similar stories shattered camera lens. Lots of "it was just sitting on the table, and it shattered" .
Last I checked on ebay a few weeks ago was 2 vendors that had sold 5,000 replacement kits for the camera glass for the S7.
I didn't check other manufactures, but i'm sure similar as well. Just people always bring up they should have just gone with Samsung instead of LG, when the Samsung has the exact same glass shattering.

Good find.... Though I'll bet you didn't have to search hard. I knew they sold lots of Samsung camera glass on Ebay but never looked beyond that.

This is to anyone who has posted on this thread regarding their LG V20 camera lens shattering...

First of all, in my opinion and personal experience, LG has much better customer service than Samsung does. I know because I have experienced horrible customer service from Samsung and great customer service from LG.

My suggestion for your predicament:
1. Calm down and try to understand that if a broken cell phone is your biggest issue then I'm sure there are hundreds of people and children in other countries and in the USA who would love to be in your shoes.... I do realize that a broken phone is annoying and the thought of re-personalizing your phone fills you with dread.
2. Immediately call your wireless carrier customer service and/or contact LG customer service. Hold off on putting a claim on the Asurion Insurance or whatever company your wireless carrier uses until you have exhausted the warranty option of your phone. New phones usually come with a 1 year manufacturer warranty....
3. Follow directions to get a replacement cell phone.
4. Post on this thread what your experience was like so that others will know what to expect.

It's unfortunate to see so many people having issues with the camera glass. Mine wasn't in a case when it happened, but it was a significant and abrupt drop/slam onto concrete so I'm not surprised that it shattered.

Mine quickly started to go inward towards the wide angle lens, so I carefully removed the majority of the glass with an exacto knife and used clear Gorilla repair tape over the camera for the time being. At least this way my pictures mostly come out fine, and I'm not having to worry about the glass breaking worse and damaging the lenses.

I'm just going to deal with this until a replacement piece becomes available. Not worth the time or expense to have it sent in and repaired for me. Hopefully one does become available sooner than later. I still have my N7 as well, but the battery crippling update became too much of a nuisance and PITA so I swapped sims back and did the tape fix.

I check for replacement pieces every damn day. Hopefully one shows up soon enough...

When you go to remove the broken lens leave the gorilla tape on to help keep the glass in one piece. Use a blow dryer to heat the glass adhesive. Pry up a small piece and use a tweezer to gently lift it off.

Jeeze....now I'm wondering if I should have gotten the s7 edge instead?
I just fot mine yesterday and although I would hate to pay the $50 restocking fee I am seriously considering the Galaxy S7. I'm going to check the forums this week to really see if there is enough evidence of this happening before I make a decision. I'm starting to get skeptical of LG since the bootloop issue I scoffed at as being overblown happened to my unit as well. Its a shame cause so far I really love the phone and the camera is a lot faster than the V10. I do miss the more textured feel of the V10 compared to the sleek, slippery feel of the V20 even though its a more grown up feel. Uhh, you're taking me for a ride LG but I'll see by Friday.

U guys should have a case on it..thinking about getting otterbox defense case now lol
True but I don't think a case should be a necessary purchase especially with the durability grading of the V20. That's one thing I loved about the V10. I dropped that phone a few times not a whole lot but you would never know it besides the rubber peeling on the edges on the back of the phone.

I did some reading up on the marketing of the military drop ratings. While actual military devices would be more durable, that isn't always the case with consumer products. Apparently many times they are designed to meet the specs, but don't go through the testing and certification process. So for all we know, the V20 may not actually be any more durable than other phones in real world use.

Well the V10 definitely was a beast and super durable. Not so sure about the V20. The only issues that arose with the V10 were software related. I really like this phone a lot though despite the size which is perfect for watching media not so much for just wanting that 5.2-5.3 sweet spot.

For those of you with the broken glass issue, look at your serial number label in the battery compartment. What are the first 4 digits or the manufacture date?

I wonder if this is effecting the earlier models. My Mfg date is Nov 2016

Not scientific enough.... I have an early pre-order. Glass is fine..... It depends on how or why it broke

Was wondering if at some point they changed the design of the glass. Mine seems like it has cutouts around the lenses, rangefinder and flashes. From the posted pics, it does not look like the ones with the broken glass have this.
I tried to get a good closeup picture of mine but couldn't manage it.

The only noticeable cut outs are on the protective film on mine If they went through a design change that would be an admission of a design flaw and therefore cause to deem the broken ones as defective.

Yep, I took the protective film off mine when I got it. As far as the design change as an admission of a flaw.. that's what I'm getting at. ;-)

Have you or anyone contacted all those vendors on ebay to ask when the V20 glass will be available? It really should be any week now. The phone has been out 8 weeks now in South Korea and 4 here in the US. Usually those kits start showing up on the 6 week time frame.
They may already be available in South Korea, just like the spare battery kits were available there much sooner, so some vendors started shipping them over here.

Ok, so I was able to get a pretty good picture of the glass covering my camera lenses and what I am trying to describe about what I think is "different" about mine. Surprisingly, the best picture I could get of it was with my trusty G2 back up phone.

I have not contacted any manufacturers yet and honestly that hadn't crossed my mind, I suppose it never hurts to ask and see.

The sample of cracks in this forum is significant. Still better than the Note 7 debacle none the less.
