OK. This is my situation. I am on vzws unlimited plan. I'm not due to upgrade for another year. My friend has a large family with six people on his plan. He is resigned to losing unlimited data. He has two upgrades coming up. Here are my questions: Can he upgrade to a gs3 at a subsidized price (which I'll pay for), activate the phone on his line and then switch that phone to my moto bionic? Then, can I take the new Samsung gs3 and activate it on my line while still maintaining my unlimited data?

Basically, can I use his upgrade and still keep my unlimited plan?

Should be able to as I did this when I bought my best friend a RAZR. Upgraded my dads dumb phone line to a RAZR and than had them switch it on the spot. Make sure its done on the spot though as I'm not sure if you'll lose the warranty otherwise. As it stands, my friend still has her warranty.

Yes.

He doesn't even need to activate it on his line. Just have him buy it in store and tell them not to open it. You can activate it directly on your line.

Thanks. I am now the proud owner of a 300 dollar SGS3 with unlimited data.

Be aware that if you have problems with the phone vzw won't do anything for you. That's the downside of buying someone else's phone.

Not true, if the phone was bought with an upgrade and moved to his line immediately it will be covered. I did this for a friend and she's had a replacement already. The warranty doesn't transfer over if it was a second hand device.

Honestly, I think this only applies if they are on the same account.

I second that.... I have done it as well.... Bought a brand new never activated Bionic and was given a G Nex as a warranty replacement...

No, my dad and I are on separate accounts and my friend is also on her own line.

So you are telling me I can upgrade, never activate the phone and then sell it on ebay? Because I know for a fact you can not leave a Verizon Corporate store with a phone at the discounted price unless they have activated it. I don't know maybe it's different outside the corporate stores.

I activated her phone immediately but I wasn't forced to. Verizon activated the RAZR on my dads line and than deactivated it and put his phone back on the network. I was told that I could activate her phone on the spot or take it home with me and go through the SIM activation process at home. Others have reported that they never had the phone activated before and left the store as such. I can't confirm this though but I do know my friend had a warranty and went though a few replacements. She now has a RAZR Maxx free of charge and her issue are oddly enough solved even though it's the same device... But at least I can confirm she had problems and wasn't milking it like some people do.

You sure this was at a corporate store?

100% positive, this was a corporate store that I always visit regularly.

Because the corporate stores don't have the ability to give credits in store. So I don't see how they waived that fee. Just because it says Verizon Wireless on the store doesn't mean it's Corporate.

There was never any credit involved in the transaction. Verizon had me sign a new two year agreement on my dads line and moved the phone at no charge to her line. I inquired about this as soon as I walked in the door and was told that it wouldn't be a problem. They activated the data plan on my dads line, removed it, and called it a day. They never activated a SIM card for his line so that's probably why the fee didn't go through. Of course, I thought you could not add a data plan but he did it and removed it instantly. The original SIM card was activated on my friends account immediately. I guess I should have clarified that they bypassed the activation process and it's not difficult to do.

Well good for you, you seem to have found a Verizon corporate store that is willing to violate certain Verizon code of ethics. =D

I'm usually fairly successful in doing this with most companies. Acura, Verizon, Microsoft, T-Mobile, etc. Its odd because I don't do anything outside of politeness and honesty
