I went up to the VZ website this morning to start the process of ordering my gf's TB. There's a combobox where you select the contract duration. I only see "2-Year Contract" and "Month to Month". When I ordered mine last month, I got the 1-Year Contract. Have they nixed the 1-year contracts on their website 5 days early?

That's odd. I literally ordered mine yesterday, and I was able to select a 1-year contract.

I thought they were going to change that on the 14th... maybe they did the website early.

If you are sure you are elibigle for a 1 year contract (not many are/were), call Customer Service. Fast... :) Tell them that the on-line system is not giving you the correct options and they should let you order it over the phone (with no activation fee 'cuz the website was honked up - don't forget to mention this).

On the other hand, you said you ordered your "last one" a little while ago. How are you eligible for a 1 year contract? Are you adding a line? Is the second phone past the 24 month point? Actually, I'm not sure you could ever do 1 year contracts on secondary lines...

I switched from AT&T last month when the TB first came out. Now, my gf wants to switch over from AT&T also and I was going to sign her up under her own contract. I was just doing the legwork for her. We're both separate, new contracts.

What Frank said....when ordering my thunderbolt, I had all intentions of doing a 1 year contract but I wasn't given that option online ...I was only a little over a year in my 2 year contract and I didn't realize until later that that was the reason I couldn't do a 1 year contract..

True, "early upgrades" (a.k.a. annual upgrades) require a 2 year contract to be eligible for the subsidized phone prices.

This does sound like if you move fast you should be able to get her a 1 year contract. However, as a brand new customer, she might need to physically go to a corporate store to do it... quick! :)

Update:
I tried the VZ chat and they told me the 1-year contracts are no longer available.
I called customer sales and I was able to get the 1-year contract over the phone. They also threw in a free case and Bluetooth headset!

That really sucks. I am glad I ordered my TB when I did, on Sunday. FWIW, Frank, I upgraded a line and got the TB for $230 on a 1 year contract.

I was at the store and online today. Can't decide whether to go for the Tbolt on 1-year or wait for another phone on 2-year. I have till Saturday. What to do... What to do???
