OnePlus 3 with AT&T - not able to get LTE connection

Hello all,

So I got my OP3 last week. I went to the ATT store to get the nano sim, and when it was installed it would not give me access to LTE. The rep said that the OP3 was not on the list to get LTE. After some research, I called ATT and had them input the IMEI from my old Galaxy S4. Then I restarted the phone thinking all would be good. The phone rep confirmed that it was the fix, but still I can't get LTE. In fact, if I use the APN for ATT Nextgenphone, I don't get any service at all. The only way I can get service is by using the APN for ATT Phone with the preferred network type of 4G(LTE). I never actually see the LTE indicator on the bars on my phone. I usually only see an H, which I think is for the HSPA network. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I get LTE with either APN with ATT.
I would do a hard reboot. The person at ATT has no idea what they are talking about. They may have not tested it but it works fine.

If it's a new sim you may want to try in another ATT phone to ensure you get LTE, then put it into the OP3.

I had to call and get them to manually add my imei and next day I had LTE but I was having the same issue

Here's the AP from my N5. I remember when I got my N5 I had to go into the ATT store and they had to modify my plan and provision my plan for LTE. Once I did that, I did a reboot of my n5 and got LTE. As a side note at that time the N5 didn't show up in there system.

There are several others with this problem as well based on postings on OnePlus forums and reddit. Apparently it is due to AT&T not having OP3 in its system as a 4G capable device. You can try contacting AT&T and explaining that your OP3 IMEI's need to be whitelisted in their LTE/4G database and see if that helps.

They may eventually get things squared away with this (either by OnePlus or AT&T), but waiting on them to do this is agonizing in my experience.

I had this problem with my OP3 too. I'm with Consumer Cellular, which uses AT&T lines. I copied my APN info from my Galaxy 5, and got the calling part going pretty easily. However, I couldn't send a text. I called Consumer Cellular, they corrected the IMEI, and after that, everything works great. I don't know squat about this stuff, but luckily, they do! :-*

I don't understand how my OP3 works fine on ATT without any issue since day one? I never had to call them to correct the IMEI.

Right, I know. There are some that have no problems at all, but there are others that do. Mine worked great on AT&T pulling down LTE for the first two weeks. Then one day no data and this was on an existing SIM card that works just fine in my OP2 and iPhone (both with full LTE). If I use it in my OP3 I typically have to toggle airplane mode every day or so just to keep data working.

I did have them add my IMEIs to their database, but that didn't solve the problem for me.

I went round and round with an AT&T rep on this issue. They had to change my plan and add the IMEI to their database and it still didn't work. I move the SIM to the SIM2 slot, and magic, LTE connection! I would really like to how that worked, as I said can't get LTE if it is in SIM1.

The IMEI is a hardware address so it's different for each slot. Interestingly I was never able to get more than edge in slot 2. Once ATT updated their DB I have had no issues with LTE on slot 1. I threw a T-Mobile sim in slot 2 and that's worked perfectly since day 1.

Before I purchased my oneplus3 I researched this issue completely and found one solution which did not leave me in the hands of AT&T. I found it by googling how to get AT&T LTE on a oneplus TWO, because it was before the 3 was out. Briefly you need to secure a nano sim card (i had a micro) once I got it from the AT&T store I went to BEST BUY and copied the IMEIA number from an Apple display phone. I than called Customer service and gave them that number in place of the one plus 3 IMEIA number and they provisioned the dim card over the phone and voila LTE, but you must be sure to check the APN settings on your phone and change them if necessary. You can Google that page "APN SETTING FOR AT&T and the ONE PLUS 3 PHONE" keep a copy of the IMEIA # for future reference just in case and good luck

PS The person who provided this information on the web seemed to think that this Data base issue which is the reason you aren't able to simply get LTE without this chicanery is all sbout AT&T not liking the fact that this is a unlocked phone not sold by them so this is their way of discouraging their customers from going outside and I am in agreement with that thinking.

There is at least one issue with this method, not to mention the whole "securing" a card from a floor phone thing. AT&T supposedly has a process to sweep their network looking for mismatched IMEI addresses. Once found they reportedly remove these at least from the account if not from their database. This could be an issue going forward for anyone who uses this method. Initially after AT&T used my old iPhone IMEI address I had LTE service for a week and then found myself with no service until I called in an had them add the correct IMEI properly. No issues since.

As for the reasoning behind AT&T's maintaining their database, who is to say the real reason? I doubt it has anything at all to do with phone sales. The sales folks generally don't know or care about a hardware database. The more likely reason is an internal policy at AT&T trying to maintain the database from a size and accuracy perspective for reporting purposes. Maintaining data is important for large databases, and the AT&T database(s) must be absolutely huge.

You misread or misunderstood my message. I had a micro Sim card and the OnePlus 3 takes a nano sim card so I needed to get another sim card which I did by going into the AT&T store and asked for one which they were more than happy to provide. The floor or display model was at BEST BUY and it was there that I copied the IMEIA number from an Apple phone. No big deal they don't sell display phones, I asked. As to sweeps well I can tell you this I had an S3 for a about a year which Samsung replaced for me with an S4 Phone. I simply took the sim out of the S3 and placed it in the S4 never gave it another thought until 4 years later when I had an issue and needed to call AT&T Tech support it was then that I gave them the IMEIA # for the S4 otherwise it never came up. Which is why I suggested keeping a record of that copied IMEIA number for future reference. As to why this is an issue with AT&T you are correct it is speculation which I said I agreed with mainly because I worked for large Telcom companies and know how they operate and why.

So had to call AT&T again yesterday when I noticed I had no data connection. Again. The rep quickly found it was flagged as an IMEI mismatch with my old iPhone IMEI on the account again instead of the OP3. I thought I was done with the problem. I will say when I tested with T-Mobile last month in the 2nd sim slot I had no issues like this. At this point I'm frustrated as an ATT customer of about a dozen or more years. I really don't think I can recommend them any longer and I might be looking at switching away. In my month of testing T-Mobile coverage wasn't quite as good as ATT, but it was very close.

Going into my 4th week of owning the phone, no problems with LTE and AT&T so far. I had to activate a new nano SIM and it's my first time with AT&T. I'm also using Tracfone so I dunno if that makes a difference. I just hope it continues to work without issues.

I have gone round and round trying to find a phone that works to replace my old Galaxy S4 (i337) on AT&T. I have some interest in the 1P3, but have a real concern if I'll also have trouble on the AT&T network with a 1P3.

So I'm doing a bit of research while I wait for the Pixels to come out, and if they fail to meet my expectations, I'll have to go with plan B or C... either a mid-tier Android ($400-ish) or just jump platforms and get an iP7+. Samsung lost me when they moved to the Apple model of construction (sealed glass phones) and high prices, but only 2 years OS/3 years security support. I'm not excited about paying Apple prices for shorter Android support. And since I tend to keep a phone for 3 plus years, I'd like more support than that.

I like the specs of the 1P3. But the one off Oxygen OS? How well is it supported? Do they ever supply any security updates? Any chance of getting Nougat as an OTA update from 1Plus? Is the 1Plus3 a phone I could expect to last for 3+ years (with OS and security updates)?

I see that the 1P3 doesn't cover freqs 1700 and 700. I'm not sure how to evaluate that. Otherwise, 1Plus seems to cover all bands. Is the lack of those freqs important?
