Oops! - Dropped and cracked Nexus 7 Screen - SOL?

Ummm ... yeah, I know. I (the poster you replied to) am one of those people that Asus has come through for.

I really don't get your constant non sequitor comparisons to the iPad. I don't care what Apple does or doesn't do, and it has no relevance to what Asus should or shouldn't do. People who didn't' get theirs replaced like I did, should take solace that a lot more people are being screwed by Apple in the same way -- is that your point?

My point was how ridiculous it is that people in this thread are talking about a fricken class action law suit against ASUS and acting as if this is the only tablet with a screen that can break. At the very least ASUS has a policy of replacing spontaneous breaks free of charge, unlike their competitors. Anyone who claims spontaneous breakage will get a free replacement, nobody who has that issue will be "getting screwed".

It's ridiculous to me how a person can speak for a company that refuse to support their customers: did you have a cracked screen and the company gave a free replacement without question you? if yes, you can speak up for the company. if not, please don't spread rumor.
I'm not viewing apple/android "war" as religious, they just happen to fall into same category of consumer market and they are competing. I like the android esp the JB, but not the company that carry it out, because they way they treat their customer. Just to your point of free replacement: I RMAed it back and they refused to replace, I sent them email for escalation and no response. so please stop fooling around that they will, they are not!

I'm sorry, but your post is just plain wrong. If your device's screen spontaneously breaks, ASUS will replace it free. I've emailed them (didn't even have a broken screen, but was worried by posts) and they told me it was ASUS policy to replace spontaneous breakage. It's a simple fact. Several people in this thread already got free replacements. If you claim that ASUS refused to replace a spontaneous break (not from something you did) I simply don't believe you. And honestly, you don't have much credibility, seeing as you only have six posts (all in this thread) and in your first post you suggested a class action lawsuit (lol) against ASUS.

In fact, there's very little reason for me anything you say, as you've only made 6 posts on AC, the first being you suggesting a class action lawsuit (lol) against ASUS.

I have also broken mine after just 2 weeks... I sit on it accidentally while carrying it in the back pocket of my jeans.:'(

I bought it trough google play, and they offer to send me a new one previous authorization for a charge of 249? (they block the money), that will only executed if the old unit that I send them back is not covered by warranty policy, otherwise they will free the money back.

Asus told me to fill this http://vip.asus.com/eservice/techserv.aspx but also that they don't repair, so the price should be almost the one of a new one (I guess they will only ask for cost of materials+manufacture about 166$). http://static.techspot.com/fileshost/newspics3/2010/isupplinexus7bom.jpg

Should I try to send it to Google and they will kindly not charge anything? I find it risky, I am not willing to pay 249? AGAIN! :-\ Specially with the 32GB version coming soon.

then I have nothing to do with you and your ASUS, I'm not asking YOU to judge, you don't have credibility with me. lol
I'm not anti-android, but I fight for my own right. I feel shame on people who don't protect their own rights and justify others before you might be the next victim. good luck to you and all potential buyers!

YOU broke it, it's not going to be free. Buy a 40 dollar square trade warranty, wait a week, then say it broke and file a claim.

Or cut out the middle man to save $40 and shoplift one. :D :D

I agree with your sentiment. What crackberrytraitor promoted is Insurance Fraud, a Felony. He should be banned for that post.

Actually, in the U.S. if it's under 300 dollars, it's not even a misdemeanor, just a 850 dollar fine. In many countries, it's not even a crime. I was just trying to help someone who doesn't appear to have oodles of cash laying around. Anyways, for political correctness, I retract my statement. Buy a new one.

I wouldn't go through eBay or all that jazz to simply save a buck. But you could buy a new one and then return it. ;)
Just kidding. Do the right thing, or you might offend some righteous watchers of the skies in this forum.
Where in France? I live in Paris.

Re: Broke it like an idiot

My situation is exactly the same, although I am fourteen rather than twelve. I definitely don't have the money for a new device or screen assembly.

Well, I'd recommend a cheap and unorthodox method of replacement, but then the white knights would by at my throat again.
