Lmao! Only if that were true! I am pretty happy about the results with this "experiment" thus far!
I'm pretty sure you are on to something with the manual sync of email. Gmail is push so i would assume it's constantly polling to see if there is new email. Stop that constant battery suck and the phone would probably sleep like a baby and use almost nothing.
I'm at 5.5 hours up time, almost 3 hours screen on ( yeah, I'm on my phone a lot, trying to completely rid myself of needing a desktop or laptop for personal use), gmail sync is on, mostly Wi-Fi (i use a VPN so i have no problem using Wi-Fi anywhere i can get it), i have 2 hotmail accounts set up on exchange in the Gmail app, turned off sync for stuff i don't use, and used Access Lock to control permissions on some apps.
This is what works for me in how i need my phone to function.

I'm with ya. I need emails instantly as well.
I'm sure it's not the only way but those results are probably the best i have seen.
I'm still looking at app permissions to see what i can control.
Root ( fingers crossed) will bring us much more.

Perhaps setting the sync to every 15 or 30 minutes? Syncing is a HUGE battery hog, that effects any and all devices, from any OS to all carriers. After this "experiment" is done, i will likely set my phone to hourly syncs on email.. but then again, how hard is it to push the email icon and just refresh it?
I can understand for some people, though, that it may be an inconvenience. Perhaps its other Google services causing the draw? Their is quite a list of items that get synced, so I would recommend everyone see what they really use to what actually gets synced.

It isn't a huge deal for me since I am around chargers pretty much all day so plugging in really isn't an "out of the way" thing but I do enjoy good battery life.
Also pushing an icon isn't hard or anything but .. Getting a notification on a thread I am subscribed to instantly can be useful along with a lot of other things in my day to day life. Some definitely don't need email but for some .. pressing that refresh every so often can actually be annoying.

This requires too much effort. I have everything turned and screen set at 75% brightness (auto sucks) and I am still happier with batt performance compared to my S6 edge.

As I said on mine earlier getting good battery and 6+ hours screen time is doable on mine.
I'll be honest with you... For the life of me I don't understand why all this syncing has to be turned on by default. If you want it... turn on what you want or need. I understand that some people are lazy, unsure, totally oblivious to doing this but if you are going to have a great phone why make it a battery hog when you don't have to?

Just in case you want to use one less app...
The new version of nova placed the "shortcuts" under "widgets". So long press empty space>widgets>nova launcher- activities "shortcut">settings>access lock.

Tap home from your home screen and select widgets. Nova Activities should be one of the first options. Then scroll down to S, find the dark gray settings icon and expand it. Access Lock should be in the list.

Well, with over 7.5 hours SOT, and nearly 13 hours usage, I still have 24% battery remaining. However, its late now, and I am going to bed, hahaha. Thus concludes this experiment.
LESSONS LEARNED: based on what was done, I would conclude that Google Services, when all are syncing, eat up a tremendous amount of battery life. To counter this, only sync the services needed, and stop all others.
Display brightness: utilizing Auto mode I believe made a big impact on conserving battery life too. I have noticed in many threads on here, that often the folks grumbling about battery issues are also running their brightness constantly high. Filling all the pixels on this 1440p screen with high brightness will slaughter your battery!
Final thoughts: If I had a bit more time, I have no doubt I could have pushed past 9 hours SOT, maybe 10. Further optimizations (reducing animations, using dark or black wallpaper, changing background app color to a darker tone) would have resulted in even greater battery preservation. Ultimately, I feel that LG has made a great product, that will only get better.

I got the G4 last Saturday. Obvs. the first day was setting up, so was on the charger mostly.
Day 2 & 3 were bad. 10-14 hours max. Then I decided to use the stock launcher instead of Nova... and when I switched, I noticed about 6 apps I don't use (that 100% were not in my Nova app. drawer) were present. I deleted those, and then Nova, and now, after unplugging at 7am I'm getting to 11pm with 30-40% battery, and about 3hrs SoT. this is comparable with the Sony Z3 I managed to smash to bits last week...
I'm not laying the l blame at Nova's door, but just relating what I did. It's entirely possible it was just a settling-in issue, and a coincidence, but may be worth a try if anyone else has issue.
TBH, I'd probably be nearer 50% by bedtime if I didn't check the battery graph every 10 minutes.
I must stop doing that.

Thanks...I actually like having a shortcut for it in my folder for android tinkering. Great find.
How about carrier IQ? Anyone find any on att version?
