Optimus Elite @ Walmart.com

The marketing department had already rejected several other names due to marketing problems.
"O.O.C - Overpriced, Outdated Crap" was taken.
"I could have bought almost the same phone for 2/3rds the cost" was deemed too long.
and
"I should have bought an Optimus V" was seen as blurring product names.

In the end, being out of ideas, they had to take Jim Bob's idea of calling it the Elite. Keep in mind, Jim Bob was still using a flip phone and driving a Yugo, so this phone was a major leap into the future up for him and he was quite amazed by it.

Well you see,that's why they need me working there. I would have named it The Jim Boptimus!!! :D lol

Don't know if they are suppose to or not, but the Walmart down the street from me has had it for about a week

I was at my local Walmart yesterday and the had the Elite on the rack for around $145 and it comes with Google Wallet, I read it on the box myself.

This place lets you see where you can use it locally.
Google Wallet - where it works

2 of the 3 stores I shop at regularly will accept it plus several others that I go to occasionally. I agree that part of the appeal is it is a new (old) technology that I want to be able to use. I say it is old because American Express Blue cards have had this ability since at least 1999 and there weren't even any readers for them yet. MasterCards PayPass increased awareness and implementation of the technology. This is of course referring to the USA's use of the tech. My understanding is NFC has been common place in many African countries for some time.

That said, Processor, RAM, Screen Size, Screen Density, App Storage, and 3rd Party ROM support all come before NFC on my priorities list. In other words, it is a nice to have feature but not one that will sway me one way or the other. :)

Slider=800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7627T
Elite=800 MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S2 MSM8655

too bad this phone doesn't qualify for grandfathered plan.

If that info is correct that is interesting. According to Wikipedia that is the same processor in the HTC Droid Incredible 2, HTC Evo Design 4G, HTC Thunderbolt, LG Revolution, and Motorola Triumph

Oh wow. 8 stores in my town can use Google Wallet. I wonder how it works. -looks into it- I wonder if the EVO 3D will allow this.

Edit: Oh it's only for Mastercards...Oh well I has a visa debit card so this won't work for me.

There are several places that have prepaid mastercards. Once linked to your google account I dont think it matters what kinds of card it is tho.

I thought it was linked to your carriers billing, but I have heard of it being linked to cards as well as the Google account.

Google wallet is tied to google checkout, actually google checkout has merged with wallet.
Whatever payment method you make as your default is what will be charged.

That makes sense and explains the conflicting statements.

.:EDIT:. Just answered my question. I found a link here: Payment Options Google Wallet

I think we have gotten off topic.

Not really, we are still discussing the Elite (or at least a feature of it).

Besides, how long does it need to or can it stay on topic when the topic is Elite at Walmart, it's a rather limited subject. It's not like we can keep repeating it over and over unless we discuss what shelf and isle it will be on.

I had understood that phones released before May 27 would not cause loss of the grandfathered plans. The Optimus Elite is available at all Walmarts, so I don't seen why they would require a plan change.

I was thinking the same thing.

Are any of you upgrading to the elite?

Edit......I was on the walmart page for the elite and I typed my zip code just for the hell of it in the box where it says "check to see if this device will work in your area" and it said that it didn't?

Swithing to any model released this month or after will lose grandfather status. The new billing however, starts the 27th.

So if you buy an Optimus Elite and put it on your account today, the fist bill you get after the 27th will be at the new rate.

Wally World's, online inventory system is still beta and is wrong most of the time. Don't rely on it. I would put even less faith in system they to show coverage.
