Optimus Elite @ Walmart.com

Swithing to any model released this month or after will lose grandfather status. The new billing however, starts the 27th.

So if you buy an Optimus Elite and put it on your account today, the fist bill you get after the 27th will be at the new rate.

Wally worlds, online inventory sysrem is still beta and is wrong most of the time. Don't rely on it. I would put even leads faith in system they to show coverage.

Ok thanks, looks like I'll be keeping my ov until it can't keep a charge any longer, lol.

Oh man, I didn't even realize that there's a phone coming out on the 15th. I know nothing about this phone.

My bad LeslieAnn. I was doing a comparision between the LG Optimus Elite & the OV on the LG website and my 50 year old eyes got crossed between the two. The Snapdragon processor belongs to the OV clocking at 600 mhz. the Elite clocks at 800 mhz but the manufacturer is not listed on their website as yet. I guess the OV really is the the little "cousin" to the MT with the bigger Snapdragon processor, and the Elite is what? a friend? an illegit sister? Is it supposed to be an upgrade? Really!

I find it odd that they would put a 1200mhz processor in a low end phone, and then underclock it by 30%. This can be done, but usually by the time you hit the low end of a processors scale, there is another, cheaper model you could use.

Best info I could find is that it's similar to the Optimus Slider (which I expected)
Slider - 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7627T
Elite - 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7627A

It's a 32bit Snapdragon S1 Cortex-A5 ARM7-a, and the available clock speeds are 600-1000mhz. It's the same as the new Optimus M+, HTC Desire, Nokia Lumia 610C and the Huawei Ascend.

Personally, I'm tempted by this phone, depending on what I can get for my current OV. When i bought my phone the Triumph was just too expensive, and I didn't think the Slider was enough of an upgrade to justify the price difference. This Elite seems to hit the sweet spot for me.

Sooo, what's the going price for a < 6 month old, bone stock, OV these days?

You can probably get $50 for it, but you better do it quick.

On the other hand, sell it and your grandfathered plan together, since you will lose it anyhow, and you can make double that (maybe a little extra). There are even ways to keep your number but you will have to search for how to do it. I think you need to transfer your number to the new phone, then let them assign a new one to the OV, then sell it.

Thanks Leslie.

No grandfather here, I'm paying $35/mo no matter what phone I have.

I'm still tempted by the stock GB and 800mhz without root/ROM and overclocking. 5mp camera is nice too, but the killer is the huge increase in internal memory (512MB RAM and 4 GB internal storage, raw hardware; 1 GB internal storage, available to user, according to PhoneScoop's specs).

Ah, than its not much of an upgrade from an optimus v and definitely slower than the triumph, now im waiting for the One V, Evo V is gonna be too expensive for me

Has anyone been able to find out if the Elite will have a real Gorilla glass screen, or will it be the same polycarbonate screen as the OV? I've always found my OV's screen to be a little disappointing, just the way it feels.

I would wait for the OneV, that will give time to see what devs do with the Elite, but also, I just don't see it as much of an upgrade to the OV.

No Gorilla glass.
Buy a cheap $1 screen protector from Ebay, makes it feel just fine.

I don't even want to comment on that, I'm scared someone might use the idea. Besides, there is too many twangy ringtones where I live.

I was imagining an orange case, with a rebel flag screen saver and the Dukes of Hazzard's General Lee horn for a ringtone, complete with "Yee-Hawww"

VM's site says they've reached their limit for pre-orders on the Elite. Hopefully this thing will take off and get devs supporting it. They certainly nailed the price, IMO. Anyone know if they will be available at Best Buy/Radio Shack/Amazon?

Just call around today and check. They may or may not.

But i believe if the devs are gonna get a new phone, they'll get one of the htc's as their gonna have to use it for quite a while. That, plus the fact development is already there for it to make it that much easier.
