Optimus Software update

For those that haven't yet received the update yet, my notification (which I saw this morning) started out by reading:
Once I accepted, the phone rebooted, installed (took 1-2 mins) and then rebooted again, did some more installing, and then rebooted into the launcher.

I have a few voicemails saved that I don't want to lose, if I update will it erase my saved voicemails?
EDIT: Nevermind, I just figured out I could forward the voicemail to my email as an attacehd WAV file.

If I have the optimus s sprint version and want to apply the zip ota how would I apply it just put in stock recovery and flash cuz I still have not recived it direct to my phone just says no updates avl. Your phones up todate just dont wanna mess up before I even start lol thanks
The easiest way is to just wait for it to be pushed to your phone (you will have it by tomorrow).
if you're like me and replaced the sprint launcher with the froyo one, the update will abort. don't know why, but the error was specifically about the launcher.
Which Froyo launcher? (Did you root and install a custom one?)
I'm running Launcher Pro for two reasons
- I HATE that Sprint ID button
- Launcher Pro seems to run faster and is more responsive

Just FYI, my sister has launcher pro and had version 1.6 swype and the update came this morning without a problem. Swype updated to the latest version and no problems with launcher pro.
So...I had the Swype update pushed last night and updated it as I went to bed. This morning...I don't see Swype?! I can't find the app nor is it an option under any keyboard menu.
I use launcher pro but was able to avoid installing any sprint ID pack upon activating the phone. Where is swype?!?!

That's odd. Mine didn't make it the default, but all I had to do was change it in Settings -> Language & Keyboard -> Swype
The update uses a series of patches. Therefore, it does a md5sum compare to make sure the file it would be patching is the correct one. I had this issue too.

never used swipe before... its kind of trippy. Will take some time to get used to it

Swype | Text Input for Screens
The videos above will teach new and even veteran users of Swype some new tricks. Once you get the hang of it you will wonder how you ever used any other on screen keyboard.
The Mic icon offers speech to text. I have used it and it works wonderfully, just remember the general rules of Speech to Text. Monotone voice, no emotion, consistent speed
Ok I have a major screw up I just f@#$ myself by accident I was deleting something and I. Took out the deskclock apk and I'm screwed because I was downloading The update and it gave me errors like crazy because it aborted installation no deskclock apk can someone post there apk for the stock deskclock for the opitmus s sprint version please and if I deff fed my self can you tell me how I can restore back to stock without a pc if possible thanks if anyone can help that will be soooo appreciated
I don't have the APK, but you can try this to restore back to stock:
1. Turn the power off. If it is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
2. Hold the Home and Volume Down button
3. Press and hold the Power button until the device turns on
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your device
All that does is wipe /data and /cache, it will not restore anything removed from /system. In fact it won't even TOUCH /system.
I can't really think of anything for him to do. there are a few "tot" files floating around which are what Sprint uses to factory restore the phone, but using these dabbles into the usage of illegal software, and I don't even know if those softwares will work for the Optimus S yet.
We have a beta of a custom recovery working on the Optimus S. The best we could do is dump the phone and create our own update.zip of V9 so that everyone can update regardless of previous hacks. That person would not be me, since I am horrible with the updater-script :/
Whoever makes the dump can also pre-install root, kinda like a pseudo-custom-rom.
Can anyone get the "double tap to edit" to work on swype? I've tried it, but all it does is highlight the word - it doesn't bring up the word choice menu.
