Oreo rolling out?

I'm also in the "if it ain't broke..." camp. But my phone will be a year and a half old by the time we get the O update, and battery life and overall performance aren't quite what they used to be. So I'm planning on doing an FDR this time after the update.

Same here (in terms of MotoZ life)...actually mine is a little older...just checked...i will have made 21 of 24 payments on the phone, so 1 3/4 yrs old. Actually the "performance" of the phone is still pretty snappy...just the battery life is much worse...it was a day and 1/2 to 2 days when I first got it. Now, unless I don't use it much and am on wifi the whole day (where it will last all day), I'm usually lucky to get 12 hrs and find myself needing to carry a power pack at all times (like toward the end-of-life of my Moto X¹.

I'm preparing (backing up pix and memory) to FDR after the Oreo update.

I don't think a FDR will help much with battery life. Batteries simply lose capacity over time. Mine is not what it used to be either and I'm now using the Incipio off grid power pack as a supplement.

That being said my wife can go thru a workday and only be down to 85% on her Z Play, but she is not a power user.

Well, it can't hurt...but I'm with ya...I too carry a power pack with me...good for 3-4 charges...yes, it's a little heavy (with that many mA, but since I use the phone a lot, including as a camera while traveling, I need it...and I usually have some form of "murse" (men's purse ) with me, so it's not a problem carrying.

I don't mind a little weight to my phones actually. I hate the trend of phones becoming thinner and lighter, it feels flimsy, easy to break, and hard to hold on to to me. I have to use an iPhone 6 (yeah, I know, lol) as my work phone but thankfully they issue us Otterbox Defender cases so the phone doesn't feel so small, lol.

I too have the Incipio off grid power mod that I keep on my phone as I am on it all day using Maps for work. I put it in efficiency mode and also have a bumper to protect the sides.

I also got a bumper case to use with the battery mod, but I don't use efficiency mode, I have it set so it always keeps the internal battery at 100%.

So, the message (from 2 weeks ago) says (check back) "in a few weeks". I guess a "few" is more than 2

Unless there is a problem we should have it within a week to a week and a half would be my guess

Yes a few is 4 or more, a couple is 2....
I was joking...I know a couple is 2...but "I" believe a few is (or should be) 3...as 4 is a "month"! Anyway, it's better for me they don't rush it at this point...I'm going to be traveling mid-May (with need to use Moto camera) so I don't want to be "experimenting" with (or dealing with potential 8".0" bugs) while traveling.

Or two months or six months. Or Motorola could announce it's not coming after all. Truly anything is possible with Motorola.

Well, Monday will be 3 weeks since the new ("check back in a few weeks") image was posted for checking for system update. So, my guess is sometime next week (Tuesday-Friday)..."or" (as you said), Motorola will announce "it's not coming after all"!

It's coming, but let's be patient. Moto Z Play users are reporting some bugs with Oreo 8.0 that I don't want on my Z Force

I agree...if it's really buggy, I'd rather wait until 8.1
I don't think we will ever see 8.1. with the Z3 series coming soon I think 8.0 is the last we see. So let's hope it's not as buggy as some Z Play users are stating.
