I hope so, but wouldn't count on it. Lots of complaints about battery drain by Z Play users after Oreo.

Some things to remember too - as with any big update make sure to clear your cache partition after the update. Battery life and responsiveness may be worse immediately after the update. Allow a couple days for everything to settle down and really see how things are working.

Got my update about 3 days ago. Started installing by itself... took a long time to complete.
All seems to be working well. Noticed a few icon changes and some other changes.

One thing I have noticed is the nav buttons are more washed out. Not as vivid as before.

How long did the update take? (I.e. need to guage how much battery I need or put on charger)

Update should take 20 minutes or so. You should never update with less than 50% battery. Better yet do the update while plugged into a charger.

Installed, cache cleared. All good.
A couple things that I feel went backwards:
The Moto "control panel" circle widget. No longer has the high/low weather and battery sides. Now there isn't an easy way to see what the mod battery level is. But it's also much easier to turn off the battery mod. I liked being able to see the onboard and outboard battery % on the home screen.
