OT: Amazon may sell Samsung Charge free this monday

Deals probably a bust.

O well, the wait continues.

Bionic it is then.

Ah damn, so Amazon is full of crap then. Absolutely nothing. Still planning on getting it this week though, I simply can't wait any longer, I can't miss out on unlimited data...

Well, I just upgraded to a Charge for $149 at HH Gregg today (long story), and couldn't be happier! I was gonna go with the Costco thing and wait for the Bionic, but not when I could save another $100! The screen is just to die for and I love the 4g speeds, I honestly don't see how much happier a Bionic could make me, especially considering custom kernels and ROM's are already available for this Charge. I'm so glad I went ahead and took the plunge, no more frustrating waiting game!

was there an announcement that they're doing away with unlimited data for $30?

what's the hurry?

Well, considering I had been using a Versa dumbphone for the past 2 years, been eligible for an early upgrade since last August, and NE2 upgrade since February, I was sick and tired of waiting. The reviews of the DX2, as well as the fact that its kernel supposedly tracks data tethering and is still locked down, kinda pushed me away a bit. I LOVE the Charge's screen and camera, and unless the Bionic uses a second gen LTE chip, I can't imagine its battery life being much better.

All the reliable sources are still saying late August, despite these leaks we're hearing of it being in production. So it may come out next month, but it may not. Unlimited data will likely be gone before August, and if I do hear the announcement before the Bionic drops, I'd be getting a Charge anyway, so may as well jump on it now.

Having a smartphone will help me out tremendously in my job, as well as nearly every other area of my life, and I can think of many times recently when I wished I could do the very thing a smartphone would have no problem doing, especially when I'm out of town and away from my computer. So I really wanted to have one this summer, rather than at the end of it, not to mention locking in to unlimited LTE. You do realize that they could just say one day that unlimited is no longer an option and then you're screwed, right? I highly doubt they will, because of how many people it would piss off, but its still a possibility that I wanted to avoid.

But mainly, I figured out a way to get it for $149 today only, and couldn't pass it up. Money is tight, and I don't expect the Bionic to be any less than $300 for quite some time ($249 with NE2). I don't know about you, but I'd rather have a nice Charge and an extra $100-$150 in my pocket now than waiting an unknown amount of time to get a Bionic, which we don't actually yet know will be better. I wish y'all the best of luck in waiting for the Bionic, and hope its everything you want it to be, but the fact is Moto took WAY too long and lost my business. I don't see much likelihood of me wanting the Bionic so bad I sell the Charge and buy one at full retail, and with much better phones coming out next year, I'll just wait till then. I'm very happy.

Just wondering, but how did you find a way for getting it for $149?

Well a rep at the kiosk at HH Gregg told me once that they could price match anywhere as well as honor ne2. I thought that was wrong but figured it was worth a shot. So Amazon had it for $199 yesterday for an individual upgrade, and i figured i should get that price considering vzw gives the primary individual account pricing. I printed that page out and told him exactly that, and asked if he could match that and then take off the ne2 discount. He told me the other guy was mistaken, it was one or the other. I figured, and told him thanks but there was no reason for me to get it if he could't beat 199, and started to leave.

So he says "Hold on, lemme call my supervisor." I don't expect anything at this point, but after a few minutes on the phone, he says his boss told him to go ahead and do it! I was so excited to see $149 show up that I just couldn't pass it up, considering its cheaper than anyone in the country has paid yet! Besides, its not like the Bionic is gonna be cheaper than 249 after ne2 anytime soon, and I'd rather have the extra Franklin in my pocket, tbh. So I gladly paid, and found the end of waiting in the first Droid Charge that store had sold!

Im jealous. Never heard of that store before though.

But anyways if Bionic drops 1 day after they implement tiered data plans. I will skip on the Bionic regardless. I decided i want unlimited. And hopefully by then CHarge will be cheaper anyways.

Its not even about the fact that i cant wait for Bionic anymore, whcih i guess ill do for now. Its the fact that these new dual core phones dont look as enticing as they once did. I mean take a look at the Droid X2. Still have yet to see the benefits of gonig dual core. 2nd generation snap dragon/hummingbird looks real good.

But i want a Charge for 150 as well. No more.

Amazon Price Match via Best Buy

I bought my Charge yesterday at Best Buy and they matched the best upgrade price we could find, which was Amazon's $249.99. Apparently Amazon was offering new subscriber pricing of $179, but the best I could find for my family plan upgrade was $249.99.

I would atleast like to know the specs and looks of the Bionic before jumping on CHarge.

Which im pretty sure will happen before tiered data.

I bought the Charge to go to DisneyWorld and use 4G. It is awesome, BUT....Battery life is abyssmal and it gets HOT!!!! Wait for Motorola. Returned it in 14 days.

I'm starting to think any 4G phone is going to be like this, and the Bionic will be no different.
