OTA Gingerbread!

A factory default restore will bring you back to 2.2. That is the base firmware on the device.

Not sure why this wasnt the case for me but a factory reset did not bring me back to 2.2

I was under the impression that it would and it definately did not. I called verizon and they informed me that it would not go back to 2.2 as well. They sent me an incredible 2 and informed me that they were doing so for everyone having issues with this upgrade.

As someone who has flashed dozens of ROM's (each requiring a data/factory reset), I can assure you doing a factory reset will not take your phone back to Froyo if you're running Gingerbread. As mentioned a few posts up, all it does is erases and formats all user data, settings, and apps back to zero. It does not erase the current ROM and reset it to an earlier ROM.

If it did take your phone back, they would all go back to 2.1 (Eclair, remember that one?) after a factory reset since that is what the Inc shipped with originally but it doesn't, and it won't.

I did a factory reset too and am still on 2.3. Wanda is correct. Although right now it seems to have solved the low space issue I am still seeing some things that are incorrect such as the screen size and the sprint apps vs VZ apps in the Market. Everything else seems to be running better. So for those that received the Dinc2 do you like it better? I am debating calling VZ anyways and am wondering should I take the leap.

The Sprint and screen size issues are code problems in the ROM and will be fixed with an update. The other issues were cleared up by doing the factory reset because sometimes app data gets wonky when there is a major OS upgrade. They do all they can to avoid it but sometimes it's unavoidable.

So I assume that VZ will push out another update to this to fix the ROM issues? I am sure that no one here has a date either... ha ha. :D My phone seems much better for now and I can live with the other issues. Still wondering if I should call VZ just to get the Dinc2?

I don't think they are giving away DInc2's for the sprint/screen size issue - those are not hardware or severity 1 problems. They are giving DInc2's to people who had hardware issues like being unable to send/receive sms, speaker issues, that sort of thing. I may be wrong though.

I had those issues too, but after a factory reset things seem to be ok... for now. I am not sure if I will experience the issues or not again but it is working fine for now. I was going to monitor it for a few days to see if they come back. If they do then I will call. Thanks though.

Maybe I should have said a factory reset and fresh install of all my apps from the market. Not from a backup. So everything is fresh. :)

Fresh installs are always the best installs ;) You can almost smell the fresh reset goodness ;)

OK I think I'm about done for the day - I'm getting silly.

Forgive my noobness, but I installed gingerbread and want to do a factory reset. I remember seeing it in HBOOT but unfortunately my phone will not go back into after I installed GB. Any suggestions?

Thanks

If I remember correctly off the top of my head - under Privacy, in Settings there is a reset option as well.

Please do not spread false information like that. Gingerbread completely overwrites Froyo and other than flashing a new ROM over that (which you cant do unless you are rooted and/or have an unlocked boot-loader) you cant do.

Just tried this method now

HBOOT wasn't able to locate the image. I did all the steps correctly and the MD5 codes matched.

Unless it was said earlier in this thread (which I did not read as my laptop was dying) then this method no longer works?

So...here's my stupid question--my Droid is currently rooted. Can I simply install the update, or do I need to go through the whole process of reverting it back to stock?

search this forum for the rooted version.
Download it from the link that brings you to xda.
rename it update.zip and copy it to your sd card.

then run it from the bootloader screen.

Don't use the official update because yes you would have to unroot.

For those of you having issues with it not finding the update.zip file when in recovery. For some reason my computer showed two drive letters for the phone instead of one just for the SD card. I copied it to the wrong one at first and wondered why it was giving me an error. Keep that in mind if you have issues.

To expand on that on the PC end I just right clicked on the memory card and renamed it 32gb Card
So it now shows up as that on any computer.

I have found with GB that my phone won't go into the bootloader unless I physically remove the battery and start up the device.

I don't think it really ever completely powers down enough to get to the bootloader.

What should I call it if I only have a 16GB card though?! ;)

I'm going from memory here and I'm currently using CM7 so forgive the inaccuracies but I believe under Menu>Settings>and possibly under display, or some other seemingly random place, there should be a setting for "Enable Fast Boot" or maybe it said "Enable Quick Boot". Either way, uncheck that box and it will do the full power down when you turn it off. You should then be able to do the power on, hold volume down routine as usual.
