OTA link

Wow, worked perfectly for me, thanks for all the effort!

Flash on news sites, real signal bars, a REAL flashlight, and landscape browsing with the volume buttons on top!, woot!

Seems like all the non mobile pages load much faster and google maps is also much faster to load textures and tiles

I don't know if its just me, but everything seems to look better too? :p

To be able to do that you need to have s-off mod installed on your phone. Without it it will not let no signed packages be installed. There is another way to go about it which is much more involved, but it can be done.

sorry...totally new to this all. want to expand on s-off mod??

Updating Now

Just followed all of the steps. The first 3 times I had an error. The fourth time appears to have worked perfectly. I just screamed droid at me and the little droid iris appeared on the screen. All of the navigation buttons then lit up. Now it's loading the sd card, and, yes, the main screen. Congratulations! Your phone has been updated successfully to version 3.21.605.1. Yeehaaaa. Thanks all.:D

For those getting the Status 7 Error, this is what I figured out.

Back in May there was a small OTA update, I never got it, so my software code on my phone was 1.22.605.0 that OTA update changed it to 1.22.605.2

Go here: HTC Incredible/Guides&Tutorials - XDA-Developers

download the may OTA update, put it in your root directory of your SD card, name it update.zip and do follow the same update processes.

Once you have applied this OTA update from May, you can then install the new Froyo OTA update.

I had the Status 7 error after unrooting, and this resolve the issue. now running froyo and loving it

Problem after updating

I just applied this update to my Incredible, but now the phone won't operate properly. When it booted up initially after the update, it went to the lock screen but could not get cellular service. When I unlocked it I was greeted with a pop-up window that said "Process system is not responding" and gave me the option to either force close or wait. No matter which option I pick I then get a white background with the green HTC letters on it and another pop-up window, this time with a spinning progress indicator and a percentage. When the percentage gets to about 96% the phone automatically reboots and starts the whole thing all over again.

How can I break this cycle?

im having same issue, someone help us please, lol

The problem appears to be that I had it rooted and didn't unroot it first like a moron.

So here is how I fixed it.

1) download this file Megashares - Drag. Drop. Yup. The first site to provide FREE file hosting with drag n drop support.

2) extract the zip file within the zip file and put it on your microsd card (the phone can see it in recovery mode, i had to put the microsd card in another phone and drop the file on there then put it back in my dinc)

3) reboot in to recovery mode and it installs it

basically the instructions here..

Just curious, can you log into twitter via setup on your OTA updated phone? People are having issues with Peeps/Friendster 'cause the login isn't working. Wondered if this was an update.zip issue or you have the same issue on your OTA update? Thanks!
Anyone have a fix on getting Peep to work?

Willing to wear my "smartphone idiot" badge, but need some help...

I follow the steps and I get the message -
E: Can’t open / cache/recovery/command

I then get an error that says -
E: failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory)

I THINK I copied it to the SD card. (how do I know which of the two drives/folders it shows me is the SD card?)
No, not in a folder in there, but in the root directory.
No, it is not named update.zip.zip.
I did download the file again and repeated.
Still no luck.
**edit*
and the software number IS 1.22.605.2

ok so after 12 hours i got my fone updated.....battery life still sucked had to do a factory reset to get any satisfaction wit the battery!

Thanks everyone

This is my first update that I've done manually. Coming from Blackberry, and I'm the Blackberry admin at that, this was much easier.

Loved how it said Droid when it first booted up. Will it do that everytime now? I hope so, if it doesn't is there some way to turn that on? Other things I've noticed. Had 10 updates to apps after rebooting, now there is an option to Update All, which is way faster than one at a time before. I'm sure that wasn't on there before if so Imma feel pretty estupido.

The reboot, after the install was about 5 minutes. The droid eyeball was a bit freaky and the phone was unresponsive at this point but then officially booted up to tell me congrats on updating then it did a 1-2 minute progress bar before I could use the phone. Still this process is better than Blackberry.

I'll report back on any other findings later when I have a chance to kick it around.

hello all, i am trying to manual update from work, so i cannot connect usb. i attempted to email the zip file to myself and its 94mb, so i can't email it either. is it really 94mb?

I wonder what VZW thinks about their customers finding the link and grabbing the update themselves...

OMIGOSH! I think I did it. It just rebooted and said "Droid", now I have an eye! I had apparently copied the zip file to the WRONG drive.

Do I now need to delete the zip file from the card?

And I am glad folks have said the eye will stare at me for awhile during reboot, or I would be getting worried now... it's still staring at me.

**edit**

and now done and all appears to be wonderful!

It is 95,918 KB, or 93.6 MB. So yes.

Best advice to you is to wait. People attempt to DL and install on the phone (using a file manager) seem to have most problems. What are you going to do with it at work, anyway? Not like there are fun new games or anything. :p

ha, thank you. i think i will wait, which stinks!

Alright, so after applying the OTA upload that's provided on this site, after a second reboot, my text messages appear to be completely gone. Any idea what's up?

Also, does this update include Flash 10.1?

Finally figured it all out, updated, rebooted, all appears fine.

Here's something odd though... before, when plugged into my PC it showed me "F" any "G" drives. Now, it is "G" and "H", and nothing showing the update.zip file any longer...

H is a totally new looking thing. When I first plug in, it wants me to run something. Dialog box says at top-
CD Drive (H:) Verizon Mobile

choices below are-
Always do this for software and games (with a check box in front)

Install or run program from your media
Install drivers (with a "VZ" logo looking box)
General options
Open folder to view files

All I have done so far is open folder to view files. H gas two folders, "drv" and "img". then under the folders it has
autorun
TL-Bootstrap
tlbs

Please be kind once those of you who know what you are doing are done cracking up about the newbie. I am trying.

@agilpwd; no worry, the question is legit. HTC decided to put in the CD enumeration when plugged into USB. Vendors do this so they do not have to include a CD in the box and it includes drivers, etc. In fact I think HTC had the sync program loaded on the internal EMMC storage when it shipped.

Annoying it is but you can set the autorun properties to ignore this on your windows settings. Doing this will probably stop autorun on all CDs though.

I have the same problem. :(

Edit: Fixed it by unplugging the phone from my computer, pulling the battery, and booting it up!

Edit 2: Still waiting for it to boot all the way so don't try this yet until I'm sure it worked haha sorry.
