MMMM Froyo is Yummy! Followed the instructions (located at Manually Update Your Droid Incredible to Android 2.2 (Froyo) | Android Phone Fans) and I am now a happy 2.2 camper. everything working perfectly.

Willing to wear my "smartphone idiot" badge, but need some help...

I follow the steps and I get the message -
E: Can’t open / cache/recovery/command

I then get an error that says -
E: failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory)

I THINK I copied it to the SD card. (how do I know which of the two drives/folders it shows me is the SD card?)
No, not in a folder in there, but in the root directory.
No, it is not named update.zip.zip.
I did download the file again and repeated.
Still no luck.

and the software number IS 1.22.605.2

Ran into this trouble as well. had the update on the phone apparently, and not the SD card... just open both E: and F: folders and pull the update.zip from one to the other. then follow the steps again and presto! instant Froyo.

I kept getting that same error and by the 5th or so try it decided to work so try every couple of hours. Good luck I did download astro app and that was the only thong I changed and tried and downloaded the update to my phone but never got it to the SD card just had the one that did not work yesterday.

That's exactly what I did. All working now! Will have to re-load SWYPE, but nothing else lost that I see.

Weird Messages

Ever since the Froyo update OTA, I periodically get a SMS text message from my wife's phone stating "You can do it when you get home". Of course, she's never sent this and I have no idea why I'm getting these messages.

Obvious jokes aside, anyone else experiencing weird text messages?

Need help

Wife did OTA install and all looked OK until she tried to make a call. Red earpiece fails, but can go to speakerphone or BT and it is OK. Speaker was fine prior to OTA. I just tried reinstalling the file from XDA and still no earpiece.

Please help.

When I had to do a factory re-boot about 6 weeks ago I lost Swype as well. I think I just went back and went through the same instructions I did to get it to start... and yes, was using the beta.

I just applied this update to my Incredible, but now the phone won't operate properly. When it booted up initially after the update, it went to the lock screen but could not get cellular service. When I unlocked it I was greeted with a pop-up window that said "Process system is not responding" and gave me the option to either force close or wait. No matter which option I pick I then get a white background with the green HTC letters on it and another pop-up window, this time with a spinning progress indicator and a percentage. When the percentage gets to about 96% the phone automatically reboots and starts the whole thing all over again.

How can I break this cycle?

I fixed it. You probably rooted at some point, right? Downgrade and unroot, install the May OTA update (this is the part I was missing, kept getting a file_getprop error) and THEN install the Froyo 2.2 update.zip. All done, 2.2 goodness. Hope this helps!

Went to the Swype FAQ: https://beta.swype.com//android/faq/

Just followed directions and did the re-download and all is back to normal with Swype now. They even have a link for you if you lost your original email with the download link.

@agilpwd; no worry, the question is legit. HTC decided to put in the CD enumeration when plugged into USB. Vendors do this so they do not have to include a CD in the box and it includes drivers, etc. In fact I think HTC had the sync program loaded on the internal EMMC storage when it shipped.

Annoying it is but you can set the autorun properties to ignore this on your windows settings. Doing this will probably stop autorun on all CDs though.

Is it of any use? And why do I only see it one one other drive now? Before this CD thing, I had two drives showing up already. Now one, plus this.

Thank you all for your help yesterday. I turned my phone off, then on again this morning just to hear the "Droid" and see the eye again. : )

I don't know if Froyo is necessarily the best thing since sliced bread, at least not for the average user like myself, but am enjoying Flash, phone does seem faster, etc. I imagine I'll find more as I go on with it day to day.

Mainly, doing the manual downlaod satisfied the "*I* want what everyone else seems to have" issue fror me. Patience is not my strong point.

Was blue tooth supposed to have actual voice command now? I'll have to try that..

teslatech Froyo update

Instructions perfect, update went flawlessly, no lost data or contacts, free memory over 200 mb as before. No worries. Would've waited till hell froze over for Verizon!

I got my DInc on launch. Preordered online and sent it to my job in April. I talked 2 of my friends into getting it - it was sold out everywhere so they went on a list and got it a little over a month ago. They BOTH got the update on Tuesday! WTF?! anywho - so glad I went this route - you're right Howie.. we'd probably still be waiting...

It worked for me as well except now my maps and navigation no longer work, they force close as soon as i open them. I have downgraded the maps to 4.3 which does open, but no luck with navigation. any thoughts.
