OTA to 5.5.893 and Lost Root?? Click here..

So I had my phone for 20 days.

1. I rooted
2. Only app I purchased was Root Explore
3. Couldnt update to 893 and i read its because i moved preinstalled apps, so I moved them back
4. Updated to 893 successfully, but then lost the root.

So I am going to try the work around from this thread and it should work.....

.....but my question is, since only having the phone for 20 days should i just restore to factory settings? and kind of start over? would that even work?

THANKS

I don't think that would make much difference, definitely try the 1-click method the other guys posted. If it works check with Root Checker to verify. Might have to run it more than once.

1 last question. i now have a binary updater. latest version 3.0.3 the installed version is 2.3.1-ef

do i do it? or is it not stable?

For Superuser you mean? Should be fine to update.

Oh just in case this happens, sometimes Superuser updates fail and it will tell you something about the signature not matching. Grab Superuser Update Fixer from the market, run it once, that will fix that. If you don't run into that issue, disregard.

Just an update, one click would not work on my bionic but after updating to 5.5.893 and doing a factory reset i re-rooted using the exploit given earlier because the motorola and Petes one click tools would not work after the update and restored everything via titanium backup. So at least everything is back to normal after the update...

Thanks, I am rooted again now. but I failed to back up all my apps and what not. Titanium backup worked, but for some odd reason now 2 months of my data on Acar is gone. I thought it was auto backing up every night and saving to the my sd card.:(

@ 2defmouze

you seem to be the expert here on the whole 893 root loss, so i need your help. I'm not a super geek about rooting but im not a total amature either, but i havent been able to find any fix and have tried just about everything. ok, that being said.......i rooted using petes one click and all was great. Then i recieved the OTA update 893 and without thinking i accepted and broke root, obviously since I am on here. I still have superuser app but no superuser access to anything. I did a factory reset to try to wipe remaining files that might prevent re-root, but superuser is still there. So i tried petes one click unroot and wont unroot. i tried petes one click root but didnt work and also the other one click method listed at the fist page. So finally i came to the conclusion i need to do the last resort. I have all the apps and files needed but when i try to do the restore, root and forever root i get a response "waiting for device" for which the answer is to get the motorola driver updates and i did, but still says "waiting for device". then it says to hold down the volume down button and press power to enter fastboot but when i do this nothing happens except my screen turning black like normal when the power button is pressed. I am SO frustrated with all of this, this is my first time actually having to post anything because i do enough research that i can usually do it on my own. PLEASE help!

Power off the phone completely. WHILE holding volume up and down, press the power button. Then you should be able to volume down to recovery or AP fastboot (whatever it's telling you that you need) and press volume up. If it's recovery, then when you get to the triangle screen, press volume up and down at the same time again to get to the recovery menu. Hope this helps.

i feel like an idiot. ive rooted other phones and should have remembered about the phone needing to be OFF first. ugh! i'm gonna give it a go now

Don't worry about it. If that's the only issue you encounter consider it all good. :)

Lol I've passed on the reigns of resident expert.. Samuri's got it on lock..

And travis..LDO turn the phone off you noob!

JK JK... hope you got it going keep us posted :)

well i got it in fastloop and got everything "rooted", then restarted in recovery mode and installed the update .zip but got the message.......

assert failed: mount("ext3", "MTD", "system", "/system")
E: Error in /sdcard/FULL_CWR_893update.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted.

Woa woa. Let's step back. "FULL_CWR_893update.zip" What, *EXACTLY*, are you trying to do? Cause that is not a stock recovery file. That's a ClockWork Recovery image. It will not update the kernel or radio and should only be used if you know exactly why you're using it.

on the original post by 2defmouze it says "3. Download and install Bionic Bootstrap from the market. Use it to boot into CWR. In CWR, install from sd card the file you just placed there before (FULL_CWR_5.5.893_update.zip)" so i DL'd it as the directions said

Ok, so you're following those instructions. I'm not sure why that's failing then. Can you detail exactly what steps you've taken up to this point?

ok, so far

1. Used the ReleasedRoot tool to flash back to 5.5.866 system.
2. Downloaded FULL_CWR_893_update
3. the instructions say to use bootstrap but i have a free version called safestrap which I used to boot into recovery and install the .zip

thats when i got the error

Safestrap is different than bootstrap. That's likely why you're getting an error. You need to use bootstrap recovery.
