OTA update and MotoRoot

Chill guys.

Can you get in & do a factory reset? From what I've read, OTA update while rooted is just a bad idea.

So it seems like from this thread that everybody rooted with pwnmymoto, who didn't unroot before taking the update, got stuck in a boot loop.

I'm rooted with pwnmymoto and was really hoping I could avoid flashing stock recovery and just take the update.

That hope will get you in trouble

what if u have rooted with motochopper?

If you are rooted at all, use House of Moto to restore to stock (aka, unroot) THEN update. You can re-root later with the newest exploit. All the links have been provided in this thread.

It really doesn't matter how you got root in the first place - you need to always unroot before you take an OTA.

I wasn't aware that motochopper can root the new droid line and the X. From my quick search I'm going to assume that it is possible but only on a Developer edition. Well, in either case, I dont know enough about the motochopper to confidently say if it is ok to take the update with it or not. The only root method that I know for sure is ok to have and take the update is MotoRoot.

if you were rooted with motoroot and motoroot only it will take the update with no issues and you will maintain root. no need to unroot beforehand. but remember this only works if you were rooted with motoroot

House of Moto fixed my endless bootloop after I effd up and did the OTA update on a rooted Droid Mini (with PwnMyMoto).

Thank you all so much for posting the solution.

Why won't motoroot install the app. I get to the installing point and then it says app not installed after I click install anyways

What version of Android are you on? Motoroot was made for the original software on the Maxx. It doesn't work after any updates are loaded. So if you are passed 4.2.2 it won't work
