Conversation Mode for emails sucks now. The entire email chain for EVERY email is open/expanded by default. I should have to expand the chain to view all emails, not vice versa. Talk about a step backwards...the old conversation view was better...

So I tried getting my update and it said "Communication failed." I've tried it w/ the wifi off and mobile data on, I've tried it w/ both wifi and mobile on and both times it said "communication failed." I contacted AT&T and they said my firmware was up to date, but I don't have the same firmware that I've been reading about. They don't know anything about this update - I've talked to 3 different reps. Can anybody help me? Is there anyway to get around having to wait another 24 hours to try again?

Well I was/am rooted, downloaded the update and OK'ed the install. Booted in CWM and told it go ahead and install. After it was finished CWM popped up some warnings about possibly loosing root but I said OK to that. rebooted and from what I can tell I'm still rooted. I have the Superuser app and it seems to work still. I can confirm that I do have the update and all was successful with no obvious issues or errors other than I have a 'Modified' device now which doesnt bother me.

Did I get incredibly lucky or was this always going to be the outcome?

incognito has always been there, i use it quite frequently

That is exactly the same result that I got. :D

The only thing that I see missing is the Samsung Browser, I believe that is called "Internet" in the App drawer.

All the other features I have seen in the forum are present.

How do you turn the browser brightness up. There use to be a setting for it?

I contacted Samsung chat support today to learn what improvements were made with the update and below is the result of the chat session:

Vain: The SDK for Android 4.0.1 (Ice Cream Sandwich), based on Linux kernel 3.0.1
Vain: The update is an advantage over:
Vain: ?Numerous bug fixes and optimizations
Vain: ?Improvements to graphics, databases, spell-checking and Bluetooth functionality
Vain: ?New APIs for developers, including a social stream API in the Contacts provider
Vain: ?Calendar provider enhancements
Vain: The advantages are :
Vain: ?Stability improvements
Vain: ?Better camera performance
Vain: ?Smoother screen rotation
Vain: ?Improved phone number recognition
Vain: ?Soft buttons from Android 3.x are now available for use on phones
Vain: ?Separation of widgets in a new tab, listed in a similar manner to apps
Vain: ?Easier-to-create folders, with a drag-and-drop style
Vain: ?A customizable launcher
Vain: ?Improved visual voicemail with the ability to speed up or slow down voicemail messages
Vain: ?Pinch-to-zoom functionality in the calendar
Vain: ?Integrated screenshot capture (accomplished by holding down the Power and Volume-Down buttons)
Vain: ?Improved error correction on the keyboard
Vain: ?Ability to access apps directly from lock screen
Vain: ?Improved copy and paste functionality
Vain: There are numerous small to large improvisations.

Meantime, I have not been notified and am a bit concerned due to some of the issues SOME of those on this thread are experiencing. The rep said that if the update is installed there is no going back. He also said that not installing it will NOT impact the eventual release of JB when that finally happens. He said it was tested thoroughly though ALL carrier updates are a collaboration between Samsung and the carrier engineers.. That's all folks!

Some of those dont sound right like accessing apps from the lock screen. What does that mean? I already could do that.

Drag and drop folder creation? Goodness, if only I stuck around on the S3 ship long enough...

Yeah I kind of agree.. doesn't seem like anything major and if some are having problems as we've seen here, I'm leaning towards not bothering to install it since it can't be reversed.

I always do them because every update improves android/touchwiz. There there to fix things like security issues. Ya they may mess somthings up but what doesnt. People want jb and when they get it there will be some issues with it. Its just the way it is. By the way I have zero issues with this update.

Except we're on Android 4.0.4 not 4.0.1...I think the rep was kind of confused. Many of those listed items have been on the device since day one...

New keyboard is great. I'll see if it fixed my BT bugs tomorrow. No issues so far. Not rooted.

Seems to be all good over here in Alaska. Seems to be smoother, apps load a little quicker. I did notice the task manager now shows up quicker too with no hint of lag. All in all it's a good update on my end anyway.

Still no update. I checked a few times with data turned on only. Then wifi. Then both. Still no update coming thru my S3.

Each time I've tried I get "communication failed". Any suggestions? I've talked to AT&T 3 times and each time they've told me something different. I've tried all things they said and nothing works.

stock email app sync takes no time at all now. very slick.

edit: Back to taking fo evah.
