I do have to disagree as far as the platform dying, I think HP just gave them a second life. It is going to be really interesting to see what they come up with. I do think HP taking them over was a good thing as it gave them money to play with. I also see that community growing when they release more devices. They crippled themselves by putting all their eggs in one big basket with Sprint, and they completely mishandled their initial release. .
The HP CEO said it himself, "we did not buy palm to get into the mobile phone business" at a stock meeting a moth or so ago. Yes the next day after they were inundated with irate palm users did they "clarify" that the simply meant that they were planning to use it on their business overall not (just) phones. They were very careful with their words though and did not actually promise any new phone hardware.
In the recent months has Palm put any devices through the FCC, have there been any leaked prototypes or even spec sheets for one? No. It's daily safe to say that none are in active development.
What this means is that HP is not in any rush to release any new phones (if they indeed intend to at all, which I am not convinced of). Even if they do it will be too little too late.
The Palm community has shrunk over the years and while the Pre/Pixie gave them a little boost last year, overall the various Android and bb devices that have come pout since then have taken most of not all of that away. Even the revised hardware that actually worked (the plus models) barely sells and is a joke.
I really don't care what platform people like (I have BB, Android, and iOS myself) but the writing is on the wall. WebOS in the smartphone incarnation is all but dead and no stupid poll is gonna change that. Let them have their silly poll and feel better about themselves about cheating for their win.
