Yes, definitely keep a backup (e.g., store the database on a portable flashdrive and keep it in your underwear drawer--or whatever method you prefer). If a device with your password database is lost or stolen, you should have sufficient time to restore your backup on another device and begin changing your passwords (that's assuming you've chosen a strong passphrase for decrypting your password database).
Same applies to authentication tokens (e.g., a Yubikey) if you decide to go that route. I keep a spare (and less expensive model) Yubi key as a backup hidden away from home (just be sure to associate *both* keys on all the devices you use them on).
